We call the USA 'America' because it's the last word of our official country name, the 'United States of America'. If we didn't separate the continents, this would be redundant, but we don't so it isn't.

This was absolutely hilarious. It's quite sad really. I felt for some of them, because they actually knew the landmarks, but they were quick to believe that they were wrong. All sympathy was gone, however, when they actually believed that Mt. Rushmore, with the faces of AMERICANS, was originally 'built' in Australia.
