Assigned the 6251st USAF Disp. Bien Hoa 71-72. (Flight Surgeons Office) - looking for any guys that were there at that time...Welcome home all 'nam vets.
wtedy miałem 9 lat i nie wiedziałem co to wojna ale częściowo doświadczyłem w wojsku 1980-82 jesień. Pozdrawiam wszystkich żołnierzy z mojej fali. Niech Pan Wam Błogosławi!. o.Hadrian ofm Benedykt Kulwicki.
How much of the South Vietnam economy was US investment at that point ? Did these convoys ever get ambushed on the roads like Iraq or Afghanistan? Great to have this home movie... gives a bit of insight into what it was like.
Seems like all of us AF veterans went through Bien Hoa at one time or another. And yeah...the heat and smell when stepping off that plane will be something none of us will ever forget. Welcome home troops..glad you made it. And remember....we didn't lose that fucked up war.... we left.
1967 I remember the smell , the garbage in the gutters, and the bullet holes in the buldings. I cant remember the 90th Repl. I wonder when it went up? I Remember 67 just a large tent and a 'building'.
Yeah that blast of hot humid air as you got off the plane was a real WOW! But after a few months you did not even notice. The smell was something I will never forget. After a while you did not notice that either. Actually I did not notice much of anything, after being there two years. It just all became normal.
Yeah this is really neat. I would have known where this location was even if it was not listed where it was here. This was a very narrow road in many places, as seen here. One night going to Long Binh, there was heavy tracer fire going back and forth across the road in front of us. Half of the guys in the truck was yelling stop, the other half was yelling go. I decided to just punch the Duce and a half and hope for the best. Made it ok. Dinky Dow I guess. It was a long time ago. Thanks.
I went to Viet Nam 3 times, arived and departed each time at Bien Hoa and my unit [20th Eng Brg]
was ob Long Binh. The "terminal the first time I got into country was a corigated building much like a pig barn with a crushed gravel floor. The last time I came home they had a modern building with running water, flush toilets and everything. The bus ride from Bien Hoa to Long Bing scared the $*** outta me on the way to 90th replacement.
That was a wild ride for those of us who came in as "Newbies.' I arrived at night, and our bus was escorted from the airport to the 90th by MPs with some very heavy duty firepower.
Thanks for posting this, I bet it still is a zoo on that road to Long Binh.
The communications tower at 3:27 was on Plantation Combat Base. My hooch was very close to the tower, '68-'69. Some of the ruined buildings along that road happened in Feb. '69 when LBP, Plantation and BHAB were attacked by NVA and VC. Thanks for the video.

My most vivid memory of stepping off of the big bird at Bien Hoa was the smell. A day or two latter I didn't even notice it.
