@edgar61049 Probably 'cause that genius Jose Canseco claimed to have given him steroids in his book. The writers for the baseball HOF aren't the legal system so players suspected of illegal drug use are being considered guilty until proven innocent (unfairly so, but it is what it is).
@edgar61049 Wake up.. Ripken also never had something else in common with Canseco, Bonds , Sosa and Mcgwire.. drink some coffee.. smarten the hell up. How can any honest person even write what you just did and feel justified.. and if you even have to remotely think what Im talking about your even dummer than what you just wrote.
Cal Ripken could beat you with his bat and glove. I'm an Angel fan and can recall almost always when it came to being clutch. Cal Ripken stuck it to the Angels, much to my dismay. As a sports newscaster he does that real well too.
Ripken is one of baseballs greatest icons. Ripken played hard and played day after day. People loved him and that is the reason why he attended 19 all-star games, 2 golden gloves and 2 MVPs. To say that he could only hit 20 home runs a year is just a matter of perspective. He had 8 seasons where he hit over 25 home runs a year. That was also while playing clean. To say he is over-rated you compare his home runs to McGwire, Sosa and Canseco. To even compare Ripken to cheaters is sad.
He deserves to be in the Hall of Fame, but not for his stats. The streak alone plus decent stats is enough to put him in, but it's safe to say if it weren't for the streak, no way.
@YANKEEBOY114 Dude, have you ever looked at his stats? 3,184 hits. 431 home runs (and the likelihood he did steroids is like less than a tenth of a tenth of a tenth of percent considering the streak). 19-time All-star (maybe the streak helped there, but at least 10-15 are for ability, not the streak). 2-time MVP. 2-time Gold Glover. Top 25 Career RBIs. I could go on, but I'm limited to 500 characters or less. Ok, one more: 1 World Series Ring. Your argument is bad and you should feel bad.
Wow, that's the most idiotic comment I've ever left on a video. I left it 11 months ago, which explains it. I do think the streak helped him get a 98% HOF vote and become so legendary, but he would've been an easy HOFer without the streak with the great stats he has, and the streak itself is such a monumental accomplishment that he is a true legend. I hope you don't think all Yankee fans aren't as stupid as that, I'm a much more knowledgeable person now, as are other Yankee fans.
Tampa, you answered your own question. Ripken didn't do steroids. Most everyone else from his generation did, including most of the record breakers of the last 20 years you would like to compare him to.
how someone his size couldn't hit more than 20 homeruns a year ?
I remember jerkwad Canseco in an interviews comment on Ripken saying Ripken was a big man, that is interesting a steroid freak saying. CAnseco was 6-4 260Lbs
Ripken was a big man who hit like a little man managing to hit 30 homeruns once in 21 career. After age of 31 only hitting 20+ homeruns seasons twice. Good thing he played even inning of all those games he won't have had enough AB to get those 3000 hits or 431 homeruns.
@Tampa370 Considering 35 HR's or so led both leagues in the early 80's,I think even you can do math.Ripken's consistent 25+ in that era made him a power hitter. Maybe if he had taken tons of Juice in the late 80's like almost every other power hitter he would have hit those high 30's to mid 40's in Homeruns.Go back to fapping on your Canseco, Sosa, Bonds and Mcgwire pics. Not too mention many many others that HR production went from 20's to 40's in the matter of 2-3 seasons in the mid 80's.

You're right, I am an Orioles fan from birth but it is obvious that he is overrated as far as actual performance.
