@nik418 EXACTLY. saw them about 4 times in manchester twice as main and supporting siouxsie and a little band called u2. loved the pants off them until happy birthday. quite like my history with toyah loved her saw her 5 times as support and main until pop strikes again. first 2 albums of any band are the best full stop.
Love it, but the film of Dead Pop Stars from Leeds Futurama beats this. Not really an actress - she was terrible in Father Ted. Maybe Gregory's Girl was a blip.
Theres a bit missing from both the beginning and end of this video and i have the full version but the quality of mine is not as good as this is. Should i bother for a few extra seconds?
Haven`t heard this song for a long time. I thought Clare Grogan was very cute around 1981 and I thought her connection with Gregory`s Girl was interesting which I also liked.
No wonder dear John Peel RIP liked them at tbhis stage, really quite indie. Rember this well; was 12; and REALLY dont mean this in a sexist way (NB I was 12), I never realised hips were such a wonderful thing!
Or just run out of ideas. With a lot of time passed I like more of what they did back then , take out the songs with Happy in the title and there's little of altered images that I dislike and they showed they had more than one type of music to them.
No way! She was that chic that hooked up with Gregory at the end in Gregory's Girl? I, apparently, am the only one who did not know this! I do know that those guitars have that cool retro 60's Sputniks sound to them. Does this redeem me?
god they stole everything the knew from the Banshees so easy to hear hat. I cant believe they started outlike this. Dead Pop stars .i really like .Only knew post happybirthday they came to Los angeles imissed em.
I didn't know that, but it's been my favourite Altered Images track for 13 years, ever since I bought a second-hand vinyl Picture Disc of 'Happy Birthday'. The recorded version is absolutely awesome, much tighter than this live version, and I love the whole metaphor of the lyrics - so true to reality.
Clare Grogan was soooo cute!I was a kid at the time but I adored Altered Images during their all too brief career.Yep...here it comes again...I'm getting goose bumps watching this video & getting a Blast From The Past! Thanks!
Hi Nik!I'm not sure but I think I did read somwhere here that it was indeed a b-side track. The Old Grey..Test liked showing alternatives to hits at the time, just to be different from TOTPs.Happy hols!Cheers!
Saw them live in Newcastle with A Flock Of Seagulls supporting (How good that was!!) Had big crush on Clare, waited with me Happy Birthday 12" cover and got it signed and a kiss off her - fell in love that day!! She was very shy and down to earth, got that schoolboy twinge just writing this!! LOL
Good god (again!) this takes me back. She was my first crush! And this track along w/Dead Pop Stars makes you realise it wasnt all "Happy Birthday"...lalalala... Lovely hips Clare
