No it's not stupid, its true. US and Europe colonized and they are paying for it all the time (democratic incentives, educational/aid programs and welfare)but that does not make it right! Nancy Pelosi doesnt need to bash China to gain power in the US. She criticizes China with facts. To think that China is above criticism is part of the brainwashing. Of coourse China is doing some good in the world. BUT it must address its colonial ambitions in regards to Tibet. The illegal invasion in 1953 is a stain on their anti Imperialist platform.China's the focus b/c it wants the world's money, respect and the olympics. Why did the Chinese government not allow Al Jazeera reporters into Lhasa or other parts of Tibet/Western China when all the uprisings were happening? Because they do not want the world to see their policies and what is really going on. They don't want their own people to see the truth either.Western media has its flaws but there are many contrasting sources you can choose from. the Freedom of Speech protects people outside of ruthless dictatorships. Go to Tibet and see the imprisonment yourself!

The Olympics isn't sport, it is a stage for nations of the world to buy into globalization.

I'm boycotting the Olympics because I hate ONENESS and how brainwashed the Chinese people choose to be.

China has become brainwashed by the burning of history books (Mao/Cultural Rev), changing of maps and the manipulation of facts to serve the one party system that you either love or get ruined by. Just like the chinese don't like CNN type report cuz their personal experiences in years in China has been more and more different from the westerners' view.

this may not be balanced, but it does provide an alternative way of thinking which exists, not saying we should agree with it! there is plenty on aljazeera about tibet and human rights. truth is now chinas human rights is on a lot of peoples minds so protests, job done i think! hopefully it wont fade away with the olympics though.

It's a tough question. China certainly oppresses its people a good deal more than any other developed nation, but does boycott really point out abuses to the government? A boycott would force Chinese into an ultra-nationalist state, rejecting outside ideas and supporting the PRC and its propaganda wholeheartedly.

Tupiii89, i agree, this is not a very balanced report at all. All 3 men were pro china and had reasons to be pro china. This really makes me wonder about Al jazeera now. China has many human rights violations, including Tibet. Other Communistic Republics have been forced by pressure to let states decide if they are part of a country. Not china tho, taiwan, & tibet. Its economically driven.

Interesting, but they could have talked about human rights issues not only Tibet and I'm not sure if they have chosen the right people. I don't think they would say anything negative about China.

so, a country that is not perfect on human rights issue does not qualify to host the olympics? the united states has never been perfect (remember abu ghraib and guantanamo bay), and it hosted olympics in 1996. south korea was under military autocracy when it host the olympic games in 1988. do yo need more examples?

Neither of those countries doesn't do what China does. You are also wrong about south Korea, there were free elections in 1987. A year before the Olympics.

election does not mean democracy. the country remained autocracy because it was controlled by Chun Dow-Hwan's assistant, Roh Tae-woo, who was put into jail in 1996.

sure, all countries have their human right issues. However in (most) democratic countries you can demonstrate for that.

By the way China had promised to improve human rights for the olympics. Amnesty said it now has become worser. I do think the CHINESE PEOPLE deserve it, but the CHINESE GOVERNMENT doesn't.
