Out of Youtube your Gigabyte P55, You have the best and working Overclock. Your Method Helped me a lot my Overclock. 3.50 GHz and stable for 24 hours :)
Hey Nate, I'm getting about 45C Temps using a Hyper 212 Plus. It's probably my room temperature's fault and it'll probably get down to around 40C during the night, but am I in a safe range?
A course my MoBo is a GA-P55A-UD3, but it's roughly the same BIOS.
I do think my temps are a little higher than they should be, maybe I can try reapplying some thermal paste. But I don't think it'll make much of a difference, because the computer is upstairs which gets pretty hot during day.
hey im planning to build my own computer with an i7 860 quad core processor and i was wondering... do i rely have to overclock my computer or can i just leave it at the stock settings??
@561inurface You can leave it at stock. I have a video on the time an overclock will save you on CPU intensive apps. Watch it if you get time. It demonstrates it pretty well, but that's only on stuff like encoding and other CPU intensive apps....most of the time a stock i7 will be fine. It's just fun.
my memory is meant for 1600mhz, but to get my cpu to be 3.4ghz, which is what i want, i need to go either 1620mhz or something like 1380mhz(which is much lower then id like) will 1620mhz be alright? and also, with voltages on auto, is 1.7v for ram okay?
@JamieA242 You can try it. I would stick to slightly over RAM voltage. If it's 1.6V RAM then 1.7 will probably work. This is just my opinion. Good luck
Hm. my system seems to be running well, but when i use LinX (memory test tool), the system shuts down 20 seconds after the test start. it also shuts down when I run 3dmark06. Do I need to adjust some voltages maybe?
Yes, that's the second most likely thing. The first most likely is you missed your memory multiplier. Check what your memory is running at.....good luck.
Lol for some reason, my pc turned off immideately after boot, when i did this. I had to remove the battery from the motherboard to reset the settings. However, when I changed the DRam Voltage to Normal, it seems to be operating normally
Interesting. Sometimes the board just will not react the same as others, or maybe you missed something. You can use F11 (I think) to set up profiles too. Maybe I should do a video on profiles. They are quite useful.
Thank you, I don't really have any websites. There is good information out there on forums, but there is also bad info. That's why I like watching someone do it on video. All the best.
exact same combo here..cept 6gb of kingston hyperx 1600mhz.....CM hyper n520 cooler...cruising at 24c!! @3360mhz...thanks!!!..my first oc...thug,is that all you changed?? everything the same settings??.....im not even a gamer!!...also have 2 geforce 9600gt's going
I'm running mine on 3,8Ghz with the "STOCK" cooler. My temps are 50 centigrades on idle and around 70 on load. I can still run prime95 with a max temp of 99 degrees :S But i can still make it through
Mupp1t, I had to post a new comment because where you posted is a response to that thread. The P55A boards should have nearly the same BIOS they are almost the same board. You will have no problem OCing it. Corsair is fine RAM...I used Mushkin, but that's personal preference. Good luck!
@nate42nd I bought a Gigabyte P55A-UD4P and I'm getting a Core i7 860 will the bios be the same as you overclock in your bios menu? And um I was wondering if 1600MHz Corsair Dominator 4gb is best for it type
It stays around 50C at full load. I am VERY careful about applying thermal paste and lapped the surface of the heatsink, but not the CPU. It's the most amazing chip I have ever used. I almost got a 920 and I am glad I git the 860.
Remember the fact that those two chips have different thermal specs. I can't remember them now, but they are different. Intel has them on the site but they are hard to find. If you can't find them, let me know. I will find them and give you the link tomorrow. The 860 is a fine choice for an upgrade. All the best.
Very nice vid.... I"m going to buy a 860, and I know that I'm going to overclock it, and thsi video is axactly what I needed... thank you very much...
Hey man, I have the same setup with a Noctura NH-U12P SE2 cooler. I can get to 3.9ghz but when I run Prime95 hot test the temps get up to 80 degrees, no errors though. Is that too hot for a i7 860?
Its at 195 base clock with a 20 multiplier and 1.4v Vcore and 1.25v vtt
Hey, cool that you have about the same setup. 80C is too high. I cannot remember the limit right now....and it's hard to find but you may want to find it. I think it's 71.4 but I may be thinking of my Q8200 or Q8400...I can't remember for sure.
are you running your cpu on stock air cooler? Right now, I'm thinking about overclocking to 4 GHz. Right now, I'm at 3.5GHz with a bit increase of voltage on stock cooler. I understand you're not the expert.
If you have a good aftermarket cooler (especially if it has "direct touch heat pipes") you will be fine. Just watch you temps with Real Temp and don't let it get too hot.
I would recommend the CM TX-3 like I have if you're on a budget. You can get it for $20-25 shipped. There are better ones but they cost 3-5 times as much. Get one of those if you can afford it.
I hope I have one, but unluckyily, on black fridays, an aftermarket 1156 cooling is Free after $30 rebate at Frys , and it was sold out in 10 minutes. :(
well the 4x 2gb of Kingston DDR3 DIMMs I have are 1333mhz clock speed and the sticker on the packaging says its timing is cl7 so yes I suppose I should follow your video exactly
except i'll have to choose a matching or lower bus speed than the RAM
im going for a mild OC because even though i have a Cooler Master v8 cooler for it I want to keep the temps low even during the summer
Now that you mention it....you may be able to use AUTO settings on the voltage to get to 4Ghz. Don't take my advice as fact, and any problems this may cause are your problem, but I remember I have done it with the settings on AUTO. It got hot. If you have better cooling than me, you should be able to hit 4 on AUTO. I would just do it manually. Just bump the voltage up little by little until you reach 4Ghz, It would be much better that way. Good luck
Thank you. Yes there are way more 1156 coolers now. At the time I got this board there were only two and one was sold out. There is a better selection now.
P55-UD4P Mobo, i7-860 CPU, Mushkin 1600Mhz RAM 1.65V (7-8-7-20), 9600GT, Corsiar HX750 modular PSU, Patriot Torqz 128GBSSD, 2X Western Digital 640 Blue, Lian Li (Lancool PC-K62 case) That's my rig man. Have a good one.
Im trying oc my 860 but my mboard (foxconn inferno katana) ir very different. can you help me ?

Does your process works the same way for the Asus Motherboard?
Thank you for your tips/advise.

What would you say a safe range is for the 860? I'm idling just under 50 but under a load I've been in the upper 70's I believe.

can you just do the CPU part and not the memory?

You have to change the memory multiplier or you won't boot. It's not too hard, it's best to change the timings to what the memory was made for.
