couldn't agree with you more. dewitt had never been down before benn fight and many of benns opponents hadn't before they got in the ring with him! eubank had no passion for boxing but he had tremendous physique and a granite chin, if he had benns desire he could have been an all time great. personally i prefer benn he was and is why people watch boxing.

i think benn proved he could fight smart in the 2nd fight against eubank, but didn't get the decision he deserved. both fighters though were never the same after tragic fights against watson and mccllelan. having said that i still rate benn as the top middleweight of the era.

The Benn-McClellan fight was incredible but because of the tragic outcome it has, as far as I'm aware, not been re-broadcast and sadly it denied Benn some of the acclaim he deserves - it ranks alongside the Hearns-Hagler fight IMHO. Benn may have got beaten by Eubank but he gets my vote as the best (as in most inspiring, most exciting) middleweight.

I'd say he'd have to be a bit more than a decent domestic fighter to beat McClellan and Iran Barkley (before he was an ex-world champ journeyman) and I'd give Benn a punchers chance against a lot of other noted Middleweight's from history. Styles make fights, and Benn's style-most dangerous when hurt-is dangerous for any boxer, except from the likes of Hagler and Monzon, who had fantastic beards.

In the early to mid nineties when Benn was at his best, Jones Jnr was hand picking his opponents at random. If they had met, Benn would have been straight into his face from the off.
