They were actually going to make the ride based on the movie Atlantis, but when it didn't do that well, they had to wait for a different water-based movie.
@roboguy75 This is true. However, I don't think the ride would have even looked that great based on Atlantis. I admit, it was a good movie but it didn't seem that it would fit in. I truly wish that they had kept the old submarine ride but had just updated it. Instead, they merely replaced it.
does anyone remember a show being on cox 3 maybe a month before the new reopening, there was a program on all about the history of the ride and promoting the new opening. i remember it talked about this one guy who never went to disneyland and still hasn't. anyway, my dvr crash a long time ago and i have been trying to find it ever since. can someone please help me? or does anyone remember the name?
I hope they brought back the mermaids for it! You know, maybe not the originals (although it would be cool if they came back to instruct the new ones) but the mermaid program.
Oh gosh. That would've been so exhilarating and breath taking! In the DVD, they said they dark ride would "take you underwater without getting wet" but underwater would be sooo much cooler :D Just imagine the graveyard of ships and Ursula's wrath underwater!!!! I wonder how they'd pull off Kiss the Girl though.....
A Winnie-the-Pooh playground? I don't remember any of those from going there. *checks new Birnbaum Book of Disney* hmm, you're right. But I don't see why they can't recreate the Submarine Voyage somewhere ELSE in WDW. They have more room to expand than the original Disneyland, and they could gear the one in WDW towards TLM instead of Finding Nemo, so the rides are similar but not identical.
I've rode Nemo Twice, the first time I waited a hour and the second time wait was 30 mins long. It's a okay ride, good for really young kids. It's a 12 min ride, kinda boring. I have the whole ride on tape, so i might upload it.
i hear that the nemo rides sucks or its cheesey but at least Disney Land still has a sub ride not a good one but still has one the 20,000 leauges under the sea ride here in Florida was taken out and was paved over or something like that now a winnie the pooh play ground sits there....I miss the ride dearly.
oh, well if u look really hard u can see the serpent way in the back. lol. y not put him in view. wats wrong with that? instead of him we have wat? digital projectors underwater? i can stay home and watch Finding Nemo. wen i go to disneyland, i want to see the animatronics. they can make the animatronics so good these days. look at pirates of the caribean. the jack sparrows they added look so good. the first time i rode it i thought it was a real guy
Disney had to get rid of them after a while, since the climate was really harsh on them and they'd get sunburned all the time, their costumes would rip, things like that. D:
The removal of the mermaids had NOTHING to do with the climate. It was the chlorine in the lagoon, and the sheer amount of spectators watching the mermaids.
Well, they didn't used to be a waste of time. But then again, that AWFUL movie finding nemo wan't around... AW! The mermaids!!! WOOF! GRRRRRRR! *wolf whistle*
They got rid of the sea serpent?!?! NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
Oh but I do! shelling out close to $64 per person to enter my imagination, only to IMAGINE that I will somehow get back the 3 hours I invested in this fluff! The most entertaining part of the ride's queue was watching the 45 year mouseketeers, trying to regain their youth while filming a Nemo promo. Pathethic!
i'm worried how the new ride's gonna turn out. i'm excited to ride the sub's again but i'm not to thrilled that it has to be based on finding nemo cause i didn't care at all for that movie. the one thing that i liked about the movie are the sea gulls and thats it.
Yeah! I can't wait to go but I'll stay away for a bit.. no 3hr lines for me!I have gone to Disneyland like my whole entire life, this is th efirst year I didn't get a year pass in like 5 yrs tho. I can't wait!
wow , cant wait to go to disneyland is october this year!! this was one of my favorite rides and it is goign to be back! and also the sea serpent was my favorite!! cant wait to look for a memoir of him!
Good to know the subs will be back in action. It was a treat to ride this attraction many years ago, and now I look forwoard to seeing this new attraction open. This ride is sure to be a treat for all... young and old at heart!
What a great video; thanks for posting!

@softballfreako if they did make the ride based on atlantis, I wonder what the leviathan would've looked like up close?

YEP... or a combination of both ;-; i think they should have just added nemo to the old ride
guylovesme 3 years ago
Why was this person's comment denied so much? All he or she did was give an idea of an option for the ride. Sheesh, peoples.

In WDW, the lagoon was paved over.
In its spot is now a Winnie-the Pooh playground.
Perhaps all of the negative opinions here would rather have that??

Nemo was NOT the reason for the original ride's closure.
The original subs closed in 1998, and if it wasn't for this Nemo idea, then the sub ride would NEVER have reopened.
That's a fact.

And BTW, at the very end there is a serpent shaped rock, as plain as day.

That's a fact. Lol, ok. Prove it. What's that, you can't? Might not be a fact then douchie.
nkx1 2 years ago
What? Prove that the Finding Nemo movie was not the reason that they closed the submarine ride?
Okay. Let's see...
Finding Nemo was made around 2003 to 2005 (I think)
The Submarine Voyage closed in 1998.
Hmm, the subs closed, BEFORE Nemo was created! Could this be proof that Nemo WASN"T the cause of the Subs closing?! I think we have a winner!!
Sarcasm aside, the Subs closed because of maintenance and costs. Nemo is the reason the Subs resurfaced, not the reason they submerged.
:)
