Well we don't cook rice like pasta, drain it and stuff. We cook it in a pot with water just enough for it to cook the rice in and when it's cooked there won't be any liquid left .
i made a healthier version of this tonite by using very little oil, brown rice, brocolli and babycorn and i added a little bit of steak spice..tasted great!!..thank u for the recipe..u guys make it look so simple, it really motivates me to cook.. ;)
Nice recipe, but I couldn't help noticing that you used the same shot twice at 4:07 and 4:13. Was that just an editing mistake or did you mean to have that? :)
Just made this for my lunch, but I kind of messed it up a bit! I used sticky Thai rice, and didn't use eggs, so it turned into this thick gloopy ricey thing. But it was bloody delicious!
Hm... how is it that you cook your rice? I only ask because you say "drained" cooked rice. Whenever I make rice, I just do a 2:1 ratio of water to rice, and simmer it for 20 minutes, so all the water is absorbed... no draining involved there. =\
You are going to save me when I go off to college! Whats even better, I could load it up with veggies and skip the egg if I wanted to. Obviously it wouldn't be so fried ricey but still just as good. I was wondering if I could make this with just eggwhties because I am not a huge fan of the yokes? If not I can skip the egg like I said.
Does using stir-fry oil make a huge difference? and I accidentally used parboiled rice instead, so it didn't come out as 'fried rice-y' as I expected. (I'm still a noob at this D: ) Guess I'll try again :)
My Mum throws in the raw eggs into the rice when she's heating them up so the egg kinda cooks while the rice is heated giving it some additional flavour...
Another brilliant thing for the people who feel like they are missing out on the wok experience, flat bottomed woks. I got one when I went to uni and I have never looked back :)
There's a problem with reheating rice? I've never heard of that before...I'm Chinese and we reheat our rice all the time. BTW love the recipe, I always love seeing other people's renditions of such a classic recipe
In Hawaii we really like to use spam (some say gross, I say delicious, its also really good in saimin/ramen!) or Portuguese sausage in fried rice. and pretty much any leftovers you have.
i've never seen rice being cooked that way and you're actually supposed to add the rice and egg in the wok/pan/pot thing at the same time(egg is beaten first not cooked yet) then add everything else..............just sayin...............
This is a silly question, but I love cooking with garlic, i love the flavour, but i find even if i touch it for a few seconds the smell will linger for almost a day! Any tips on how to get rid of the smell quickly? Also, you guys have a fantastic business going on :)
@DeathAngelsFury We're just here to prove that cooking doesn't have to be difficult! Great tasting food without all the fuss! Do you have a favourite yet?
@sortedfood let me tell you how i make cake in a cup every day, i love your resipies because i dont need to go shoping for rediculous things. its stuff thats already in my kitchen!
it would taste better if you put the egg directly into the stirring pot of rice. instead of frying it first. the texture is way better. like WAY better
fried rice is really simple. i typically just use leftover rice, leftover meat or chinese sausage, and frozen vegetables and stir it all up. for flavour i use ketchup (yes i know weird but really good) and sirachi sauce and again mixing it well.
@Gschmidt247 If you have one and you are using gas then yes! But on the flat induction cooker we had this pan provided more surface area and so got hotter! :D
Hey Sortedfood Guys! Only just discovered your channel through the Mystery Guitar Man episode and I must say you are amazing! I love that you are making easy delicious food with real sized person portions, not like on some cooking shows where you basically eat a stick of celery.. KEEP UP THE AWESOME WORK!
When my family (who is a legit LEGIT Chinese family) cooks this, we do it the traditional Chinese way, the way my grandma did it in China. We just put whatever at all we have in our fridge, leftovers and the sort.
when I make fried rice I for some reason add WAY too much soy sauce because I always think oh that's not the colour it's supposed to be so it ends up tasting horrid
bibimbap is a traditional korean dish where you put loads of vegetable, some meat, and a chili paste to mix it all together!
usually its made with thinly sliced cucumbers and carrots, boiled bean sprouts, sesame seed, a little bit of sesame oil, some meat (usually beef) rice and an circle of egg to cover it. then you just mix it with the chili paste which is usually called gochu or 곷추
its actually quite a simple dish and tastes delicious! :)
You know, it is pretty hard just sitting here at my computer, adding every sorted video in the suggestions column to my playlist. They are awesome videos, and is going to take awhile watching every single one........ *sigh*
I love watching you guys, regardless if I actually end up making the dish, but I find that for a lot of your non-dessert dishes I'm having to substitute a lot of things so I can eat it. One day you guys should make a kosher recipe. =)
I'm sure all of us kosher eating folk would appreciate it ;)
@sortedfood youtube won't let me link you to the recipe. it's a really simple recipe - google it. It would be great if u guys could do like a europeanised version of it with a twist :D
@sortedfood you must try bibimbap! It's a Korean mixed rice dish. It's spicy and has so many flavors :) I'm a college student and I've made it before. Tastes sooo good =)
@sortedfood it's a traditional korean dish. it literally means "mixed meal" in korean. it's white rice topped with veggies, kimchi, eggs, chili pepper paste, etc. it's delicious :)
@sortedfood Oh god I love bibimbap. It's basically a Korean rice bowl with sautéed vegetables, sliced beef, chili sauce, and sometimes egg. Maybe you guys could make it! It's great during cold winters. =)
@sortedfood It's a korean dish consisting of marinated beef slices, carrots, bean sprouts, mushrooms , spicy red bean paste, rice and fried egg on top. Hope this helps! :)
You're supposed to use leftover rice (from a previous day) for fried rice, or else the water content is too high and it doesn't absorb the flavours. Just saying.
@ShockValue721 I don't think the intention is to be slavish over the ingredients. A bit of smoked bacon is an interesting twist, plus it is more likely to be in the fridge than cooked roast pork. As the Sorted guys say, chop and change the ingredients to suit your own taste - I for one wouldn't have prawns in it!
@lNameInLightsl If you cook and store the rice carefully then there is nothing to be worried about. But Bacillus cereus is a very bad food-poisoning bacteria commonly associated with rice and the poor prearation of it. If it's left at room temperature for too long, spores can form which are not eradictaed when reheated. But this is only in extreme cases! This dish however, is amazing! Just make sure you keep leftover rice in a fridge. :D
I would rather cook one egg directly with the rice so the egg can stick to rice and fry the other egg separately, sunny side up with the egg yolk half done.
