This could be you in a ROUTINE stop. You could think you are fine, the cop seems non-violent and you are following his commands, he could put you on your stomach, have another cop kneel on your neck and hold you down and then shoot you in the back in cold blood and get away with it.

My proof is that this is what happened here. Four years for murdering someone by shooting them in the back as they lay on the ground unarmed and pinned by another person.

@TheSremmos Grant was not obeying commands. Not by a long shot. He assaulted 2 officers. He ignored commands. He resisted arrest. Mehserle intended to tase him which would have been completely appropriate in the situation, but he was a dipshit who panicked and grabbed the wrong weapon.

@ssn708 "Not obeying commands" shouldn't get you murdered. I would rather let a "criminal" escape or get away over a minor infraction in an airport than have him murdered. To me capturing someone for some minor or non violent offense is not worth anyone's life, the cops or the guy who did the crime. Running/resisting should not be a death sentence, just like a civilian can't murder someone just because they push them, or when restrained, try to get unrestrained. These are instinct reactions.

@TheSremmos I never said it did justify killing someone. I have always maintained that Grant did not deserve to die, that Mehserle was criminally negligent and deserves jail time. But Mehserle intended to tase, not shoot, Grant. He panicked and grabbed the wrong weapon. That's a fact, which was quite effectively proven in court.

you are right, but i live in chicago, and this police department is soo crooked, this thing happens all the time, and rarely does it make national headlines. not to mention extremely racist against all types of minorities. i dont know what it is with cops but they seem to have a disdain for anyone who isnt white. i found that out when i was waving an ethnic flag last summer, and got a bogus ticket for it which got dismissed cuz the cop said 'he couldnt remember the incident'. amazing.
