so yeah...was talking without an antenna...forgot it wasnt on...u think the rfx will fix the problem and help the radio get out? thanks. and if you do instals i would LOVE to give you my buisness (cobra 29 supertuned)
@jlafnear352 90 watts!!,, What the hell do you want??Every meter is different unless using a bird,,I get around 90-100 cold then after it gets hot I lose a few,,nature of the mosfet,,I also suggest using L-17 to bring the power down to around 4 swinging 70,,it will run ALOT cooler and still walk all over any dual final radio.Cant beat the punch this thing has for 40 bucks.
@mrhighlander2003 Forget it. It is a hassle to remove the built in heat sink and the RFX 75 will sound AWFUL on SSB!!! Trust me here. I just removed mine from my Galaxy 959 because it sounded so distorted and crappy.. The RFX 75 is a class C AM amp and nothing more. Thats why it is sold so cheaply.
i looked at the install sheet for this, and first it says to cut the rf out cable off of the rfx board, but later in the instructions it says to solder the rf out to somewhere on the 29 board, im not sure what to do with it. and i dont want to go cutting stuff before i am sure. can you help me with that?
Correct me if I'm wrong but a properly set up CB will put out 4 times the dead key power when modulating...right? If so, then how do you have a 7.5 watt dead key and 133 watts of modulation?
I would think if you really only had a 7.5 watt dead key, you'd only have 30 watts of modulation...that is unless there's a shit ton of harmonics that cause it to read up to 133 watts.
@imowtflol Whatta a dumbass!! Check out the features and specs on the meter. Plus, if on wrong scale.....Well enough said. Go eat your crayons, retard.
heres the deal. i got a supertuned 29 ltd and i want more watts. will this help(details)? if so how would i get one? reply man! u need buisness and im ready to pay XD
Very nice video doug. Ive thought about getting this put on my black chrome a few times. but i may do it not too sure yet. But this is by far the best result video for your regular am cb radio ive found in my opinion on here. great product.
@D0cTerG0nZ0 Well I don't know what you are trying to say for sure, If you have a RFX-75 on it make sure you have a 7-10 amp fuse in the power cord. If you don't then you make have a Protection diode blown inside the radio.
WOW..So many rude know it all truck drivers that think they know all there is to know about a radio..NOT!!!. I infact have one installed on a cobra 29 nightwatch and LOVE it..Maybe some of these rude drivers ought to get out from behind the wheel and try to sit in your chair cbrepairguy..
Hello , i am a long distance truck driver. i have a Cobra 29 LTD Classic. I have been viewing the installation of the RFX75 and I am wondering if you would install one for me please contact me.
- Email: anahgato@yahoo.com Thank you and hope to hear from you soon.
At the begining you say you've never done one of these installs before, then at the end of the vid you say this is your second install.... which is it?
@ty6784 That will depend on the radio and what you want to do with it. Most of the time you will want to lower the dead key to about 2-8 watts. You cannot go over 15 watts with the unit.
I'm dieing to see this config into a 4-pill. This is something I am planning on doing but if you have the ability to toss a video up with a 29 black chrome + RFX75 into a 4 pill amp I'll owe you a coke :)
i installed this did what i was told from stock radio with low swr and got about 80-90 watts out i would recommend i fan ib this as it does run hot if you talk on this radio for about 10 min on and off the key.. plus you have to upgrade your power wire fuse dont really look to impressive over the mosfets not much difference for all the work involved.. roadstar communications
I had my dale jr cobra 29 peaked and tuned and rfx 75 installed and echo with talk back by print out from the cb shop in WALLCOTT IOWA said i had 110 watts but my buddy hooked it up to his lil meter at 100 hundred watts and he said it was reading like 35 watts did i get ripped off CAN SOMEONE HELP ME TO LET ME KNOW IF I GOT RIPPED OFFIM NOT REAL RADIO SMART
as an owner of a cobra blk chrme with the rfx upgrade all i can sey is cbr does an outstanding job and the radio sounds excellent and by the way cbr my 2547 is kickn ass thanks and have a fine day
as i said on another video. a few techs have said to leave a 20-25w Dead key when using this RFX and it works like a well oiled machine. any insight in that??? they say when using a low low DK it sounds terrible when it swings over 60w
The amp is terribly non-linear if the radio is stock. I mean the carrier of the 29 stock is around 3 watts and swings to 4, yet output is 7 swinging to 130? Put it on the scope and see what the audio looks like. That seems like a bit too much swing for clean, clear audio.
Wow, If you are talking about spectrum analyzer then you shurly are not talking about running a big amp as we all know what they look like on the analyzer.
This unit is clean if you set it up that way and that you can take to the bank.
I did some checking and found that the unit is a fixed. Theres no way to adjust the watts. However I am sure somebody out there can come up with a way to make it
variable power. At any rate it would make a good base station.
You got that radio putting out 130 watts. Is there a way to trun it down if needed ? If your talking across town 130 would be great. If your going down the road with someone behind you you would be blowing them away. Just wonder if you have a way to control the watts ?
so yeah...was talking without an antenna...forgot it wasnt on...u think the rfx will fix the problem and help the radio get out? thanks. and if you do instals i would LOVE to give you my buisness (cobra 29 supertuned)

markybyeah 2 years ago
It sounds like you buddy's meter is an RMS reading meter and not a PEP.
All the means is that the meter will not read peak power. Take it to a shop and have it checked and then you will know for sure.
cbrepairguy 2 years ago
thank you but cb shops around here i cant trust the guy i like to do my radio work is gone to texas for winter
drtman22 2 years ago
Nice video but the booster is a huge waste when amplifiers that put out several hundred watts need 2-3 watt input.
You did a good job but I think cobra's have wicked swing with just the npc mods, with 1 watt carrier swing to 15+
I had a shooting star 225 that loved that swing to pieces.
I would just buy a modulator and call it a day.
1112223333111 2 years ago
I Would love to see the rfx 75 in a galaxy 959 and see what happen,,,whith 2 or 3 watts dead key
chicoandtheman1955 2 years ago
In a 959 you will see about 90 watts of power.
This is due to the difference in the modulation circuit.

Well that has not been my experience with the RFX unit.

you show the watt meter, but what you should really show is that radio on an oscilloscope and spectrum analyzer. Wonder how many watts are on freq.
