  • ppl that dislike her are the people that dont know much about her period.period. she is being taught in art schools. who sees all the random things the way she sees them.

  • People who disliked this video: please read some of Maira Kalman's work, because it is brilliant.

  • omg i will never get that 17 minutes of my life back

  • i just

  • that was very humbling!

  • woNNNNderful

  • shes sort of my hero...at least today

  • See her discussion in the vein of art movements like DaDa and expressionism. Her conveyance of discourse reflects her philosophy in art. She is a philosophical absurdist and this is not an insult! Research absurdism or read Albert Camus' The Myth of Sisyphus. She has hope even if sees pain and suffering in her life. What is the purpose? It is the description and not the explanation.

  • Prime .. when I read your comments, my first thought was "WHAT!!!" ....

Then I re-read, thought it over and realized you have a certain kinship with the artistic and this is not an insult!

I gave you a well deserved thumbs up.

  • Oh no, she sounds like me. Writing, fantastic, but speaking, it scares people.

  • She made me confused.

  • She is simply a stream-of-conscious blurter with little to no editing component before her thoughts fly out as words. But her intelligence is evident through the breadth of her mental connections/associations.

  • jj. Weird but interesting.

  • I didn't find her talk very comprehensible or all that funny but she does appear to be from a different planet than me so I guess that makes my opinion irrelevant.

  • Her methods of reasoning are different--incomprehensible to some despite how they are invaluable to me. Only someone with a mind like hers could draw a verbal map connecting doodles of onions, post-9/11 humor, human relationships, and the point of our existence.

    "Ich habe genug." Perfect.

  • But we said, David, "But who's going to know?" -- AMAZING! haha

  • I think this is one of the best TED talks I've seen. A unique sense of humor.

  • She remonds me of Woody Allen.

  • This video may be a most important one on Ted for it's non-content.

Those of us who are linear thinkers recognize a problem, consider the data, come to a conclusion, and form a course of action.

This more "artistic" mind is doing something quite different, and decides a course of action then simply sees the bits of information necessary. If her talk left you shouting "WHAT !!!" or giggling incoherently, then watch it again to understand how her mind works, for it does work.

  • Thank you!

  • I enjoyed her thought process.. a million miles an hour to move forward one foot. Great TED video, THANKS

  • Her message is how she comes about her work. TedTalk put various speakers to open up ideas and thoughts & doesn't constraints itself to anything.

  • The "dipity" part of serendipity can be quite wonderful.

  • I agree...99% "dipity" and 1% intellect.

  • she reminds me of my English teacher. How many people in this world are so confused but still manage to live trying to make sense of it? What do you mean this is inappropriate Youtube? This may be a person we may never or ever know and this is a portal into her view point. She's relateable and very creative "whimsical" or random, if you will..

  • i dont get the message, perhaps because there isnt one.

  • And someone should do about the stupid loud music of TED in the intro

  • I was just thinking about how much I liked that intro when this vid started :)

  • The music does sound comical, like the intro of a VW bug filled with clowns in a circus.

  • maybe the pictures are genious, but i cant stand her talking - for me its too confusing
