I bought this album 18 years ago & was blown away by the musicianship of Chuck & his band ... Fast forward to 2012 & i'm still blown away. Andy LaRocque compliments this album beautifully.
Death is actually a beautiful thing. A departing from one's humanoid being into the infinite creation of the oneness of the universe. It's not scary at all as some portray in to be. I mean death in sleep of course. Painless. Painful death is another thing though.
Yeah! This is how technical death metal should sound! Not every damn note has to be based on the Fibonacci sequence with some weird-ass interval in relation to the notes around it. There is such a thing as too syncopated. Tool made that mistake on 10,000 Days. Hell, even Meshuggah was something you could follow. It's like, the weird technical rhythms are the spice of the song, but having just a bowl-full of nutmeg tastes like shit.
@puberis Don't fucking insult Meshuggah, dude. They truly revolutionized metal. (Death did too obviously) but you're absolutely right about not every note being in some modal scale or wierd interval! I mean take this song for example. the thing that makes it so technical is the constantly switching unconventional time signatures like 7/8 to 5/4 to 7/8 to 3/4
@Zyborggian Calm down. You misunderstood what I said. I meant that Messugah, being as avant-garde as they are, still create an ordered chaos that one can follow. That's what it should be. Switching time signatures and chromatic melodies, just like changing keys, can't be something to do just for the sake of doing it. It can become noise without doing it with skill and a greater structure or purpose within the song.
@puberis oh ok cool... but you can't always follow Meshuggah though... i mean listen to the paradoxical spiral. polyrhythm in that is damn near impossible to follow. XD
One of the main things I adore about bands like Death , Obituary , Morbid Angel and Atheist is that however brutal they may be they never pretend to be brutal or try to be kvlt or something ... just normal happy people , and I think all those depressed people are posers because they are stupid and weak enough to let music ruin they life as they misunderstand it , which has led metal to be known bad in the world... anyways , hail Death!
i heard that death was tech death somewhere and i thought it would be like all the tech death stuff nowadays. if you like that good for you but i cant stand it, but death dose it amazingly, mixing it with some prog elements. i gotta get this cd
Get the original version of this CD while you can. Remaster comes out in late October. Act now or forever miss out on a new copy of the original. Remasters suck.
a yo i love death but i think chuck was a pretty fucked up guy once all his songs were like this and sometimes i do this to and i am kinda fucked up he has to be talking about himself how else would he know this
This one was released the same year as Nirvana's "Nevermind".... How did Death not get any attention?? I don't think the real HEAVY shit was recognized because people weren't "ready" for something like this. -2011 now, and still better than most D-Metal bands out there..
People arent ever going to be 'ready' for Death Metal. Almost everyone I meet when music comes up & I mention Death Metal in the group of stuff I listen to the same thing happens: they say "what" & get this puzzled look. Its like Im suddenly a goat screwing Satanist . I just keep it to myself most of the time now.
Worse is with a new girl you take out. I wont mention it for awhile or at all. I have to marry a musically diverse woman or I'll be miserable. So much more than radio pop.
Sure, I know that. What I meant was there are lots of women not really into music or only listen to whatever radio pop they are fed. I've always been way into music and found I dont vibe that well with a musically dull girl.
This going to sound bad, but fuck it. Each time I meet a girl that ONLY listens to the local pop stations they are dumb as a rock. Dull talk, not interesting, & usually they dont seem to think about anything but what they see at the time. Not for me
@Juggernaut76 most of womens don't like music, they can like the idea people get of them when they listen to a kind of music, but fur most of them thats all.
I have met a lot of girls who are really into music & some who aren't at all. I always have better relationships w/ the ones that are, probably because its so important to me. I like smart & interesting women that can mentally challenge me & I honestly believe things like music can be a measure of some intelligence.
I don't think its most women. I have a thing for artistic/eccentric girls & most of them are big into music. Next time you see a hot girl w/ pink hair go talk to her.
@Juggernaut76 'This is going to sound bad, ...' ? It's complete truth man, I believe most of us here agree with you. People say it's not true but whenever I have judged someone by their taste in music, I've never been wrong. They can lie about their taste in music, sure, but what they truly like is what matters. Clothes and behavior can trick you but music taste never will!
Thanks. Many people have sent me messages saying they agree.
Gotta be careful though, listening to death metal gets you judged as well. I'm really fucked up haha, I dress somewhat preppy like Diesel & Polo, etc., I like goth or unique looking women, and listen to/play death metal.
Music is a reliable gauge as long as they have diversity. You also have to accept a woman who likes a few shitty groups. (unless its Ke$ha) You cannot expect many women listen to or like Death.
Who cares, I like being judged and proving them wrong. And I like people being scared to talk to me, saves me all the trouble to tell them to piss off. We've all got our close friends and I believe we don't want some random people bothering us with their stupid questions and stuff, right?
Ohh yeah, I agree on the diversity theory too. Though, I always pick ones that are not quite into Death but then I change their opinions. It feels good to spread the good music. :)
I have given up trying to convince women why I like Death. Its a pretty tough sell considering its aggressive nature. I have gone out with girls that never even knew I played guitar. I doubt they would appreciate being able to play Origin, Death, or Spawn of Possession.
I just accept that it doesnt really cater to their emotions. Thats why you have to find 'compromise music'. Meet in the middle & find stuff you both like. If you can't it won't work if you really love music.
i think Chuck Schuldiner was the most complete musician in metal ever. great songwriter, great lyrics, unique vocals, unique riffs, singing while playing, technically superb melodic solos SECOND TO NONE
PATHOLOGIST (r.i.p.) official VHS from 1995 on our profile !!! you won't find that nowhere else on youtube !!! their debut opus from 1992 has been released on 12''LP in 2011 !
Amazing riffs and an awesome song. But I can't stand the production on this album. The guitars sound wayyyyyy to distorted for my liking. It can be damn hard to make out the notes. Same with on Human. If there's a remastered version that would be amazing.
I mean, if I heard this song for the first time, I would definitely buy the whole album just because this is so brutal & brilliant!!! One of the most excellent examples of technical & melodic death metal, what a great opening track...This album features Schuldiner's finest friends DiGiorgio, Hoglan & LaRocque!!! A lineup like this is simply unbeatable.

@MitchTheGuitarKid Ik the world is screwed up enough with poverty, war, killing, etc why make it worse? I find it kind of ironic how people always think the metal heads are the bad kids but 9 times out of 10 the metal heads are the best kids.
@bruceleerules747 It's because of the music we listen to. We're stereotyped as violent, fucked up people. Kind of like punks are stereotyped to be anarchists because of how they are represented by certain individuals or minorities within the fanbase. I know lots of metalheads and people who listen to punk and they are the best people I know. I've only come across about 2 bad metalheads/punks. I think people are scared of us because of the music and how we're perceived by others.
@MitchTheGuitarKid Yeah society screws up everything. Metal was actually supposed to be ban in the 80's because its "violent nature, strong language, drug content," etc. But then Tipper Gore made the PMRC which I still personally think is dumb, but meh.
