@jaydeehermanus You could try layering the chroma key effect to apply it to different shades on the green screen but generally, keying out shadows is just about impossible. Even the higher end programs such as After Effects and the very expensive Primatte Keyer plugin have trouble keying things like this out.
The best way to do green screen it to shoot from a good lit screen from the start. Keep about 3-5 feet away from the screen and light it evenly.
@xdreeaam Adobe is the company, Premiere is the software.
Adobe allows a 30 day trial download with some limitations however in the end you have to buy it. It should run around $800 for the new CS5 version. They offer digital online download or actual mailed out DVD when you buy this product.
A lower cost solution is Adobe Premiere Elements at $60 or one of the Sony Movie Studio series of editing software which run anywhere from $45 to $120.
Thanks for the lesson! questions tho... When adjusting the Garbage matte, Why not Bring it up all the way to the "Limit of motion"? meaning your subject may gesture with his arms a couple of inches and therfore need that space as a buffer so you dont cut off any motion. with a static subject (not a lot of movement) such as this interview clip why is it important to have sooo much green in the back? dont you just need enough to remove you subject from the footage? just a question :) Thanks again
@DJRockinRob You could bring the matte in more to cut out more of the set but I personally have always just moved it in enough to just cover up the green screen just a touch. There is no right or wrong with editing....pick effects and apply them the way you need them to work.
Some people enjoy it more than others. I personally love Apples Final Cut Pro the best and most people are editing with it these days however I can't afford a Mac Pro right now LOL
Adobe Premiere - PC
Avid Media Composer - PC
Pinnacle - PC
Final Cut Pro - Mac
All great programs that edit media. Pick the one you enjoy and work with it...although it's best to know them all if you are going into this as a career.
When you apply the Key to the video 2 track, think of it as making all the green transparent....this way, anything on video track 1 will be seen. You can use an image or video on track 1....simply drag it onto the track.
If you want to overlay a logo or something in front of all that, make a 3rd video track and place that up on top of everything else. These tracks work in layers similar to an overhead projector with clear plastic sheets.
Men I have Adobe Premiere Pro Cs3 and I didn´t have the plugins like Blue Screen or Chroma Key. So I don't know what to do to have them. Can you give me a solution ?
hoho.. sorry for asking on how to get plugins for free. so sorry. any way, your tutorial work fine, but i still have some green on my screen.. how can i get rid of it?? tq sir.
Use a few different layers of keying. the basic chroma keys can be used for small patches such as shadows. Then use Keylight for the main section of the screen. Finally, follow it all up with a bit of choke and spill suppression.
All of these are available free when you buy After Effects (which does a better job at keying compared to Premiere).
You can't, that would be illegal and if I see anyone respond to this comment saying how I will remove all of it. Simply buy the plugins or use the other ones that come with AE in place to get a similar effect.
The developers spend a lot of time and money putting work into their products, the least you can do is pay for them.
I set my comments up so i have to approve them first...just so you know. That's what the delay is from. I do this for spam prevention but have been thinking of turning it all off as I don't get much spam...
Yea you could put a green screen on a TV and key in an image or video but overall, lighting that screen may be hard. You could try using Premiere alone to transform the image or video onto the TV screen then rotoscope the position...This is another hard one though.
Personally, I would much rather do this effect in Adobe After Effects. Reason being because you can easily transform and move video around the screen.
I may do a short tutorial on this one in a few days.
I'm working on a tutorial video for this right now.
If you can, use After Effects as you can transform the image or video in many more ways than Premiere. I just tried to do this effect with a sample image and photo of a TV in a family room but could not really do much...
Those stand mounted halogen fixtures at home depot or lowes work very well and are usually 500W so they are very bright.
Try to stand a good 5-8 feet away from the green screen and light yourself with a second set of lights. This will reduce "spill" onto the subject and make keying easier. A second set of the work lights should work well too.
Tubetape (google it) has great light kits as well and great prices. Also see Mark Apsolon here at youtube and at his website.
Chroma key works well but not a perfect solution. I tried and there was still a fine green line outlining the object. Do you have suggestion to FINE tune the green screen capture.
Once again, thank you for the efforts and times to produced these wonderful tutorials.
I have found that standing far away from the green screen to reduce "spill" works well as does working with a good quality camera however Premiere never did an outstanding job with keying. After Effects has quite a few more plugs that work so you may want to look into that software.
It's best to use a "true" blue or green material. Red works sometimes too but is hard to work with. The problem with things like lime green or forest green is they are closer to our skin tone and don't key out easily at all when it comes to editing. Proper lighting and a good camera helps quite a bit too.
See my other videos on chroma keying if you want to learn more.

The only time you are missing plugin effects is when people download the software. Go out and buy it or get the 30 day trial from the Adobe website.
