I fed my dog four times a day when he was a puppy and now in the morning I feed him dry food and at night I feed him a mix of left overs, meat, cooked carrot, rice, roasts or spaggetti and a little block of his dog roll, sardine with dog tamato sauce and a tiny bit of dry food and he does lots of things in the day so we give him left overs a lot in the day and he drinks lots of water and we make sure its full when empty.

Wow good info. I have 10 yr old jack Russell we rescued. My 1st baby so wasn't sure wht to feed n how many x's. Once a day seems cruel ESP since he's like a fish never recognizes whn he's full!! I eat, he watches like a hawk. Hoping I drop something.

So once is ok. Which is best am or pm. Wht to do rest of day. 24 hrs and 1 meal ugh.

@clubpenguinisfun1234 im not an expert but i grew up with dogs and my dad says that when i was a baby my german shephard saved my life! i love dogs and to feed your yorkie i suggest that you give them kibbles that he likes and to not change the brand so often. if its a little puppy what i did was, i gave them canned food until the age of 5 months. after that you can mix the mushy food with the kibbles. thnx 4 listening! let me know if it helps!

DO NOT ONLY FEED AN ADULT DOG ONCE A DAY!!!!!! this can cause them to gobble their food down quickly, putting them at risk for canine bloat!! if you don't know what canine bloat is, PLEASE go check out my video on it! it can kill your dog within 20 minutes of showing symptoms and is fatal 50% of the time!!!

A couple of years ago on TV here (England) was a woman who pampered her large dog, always giving it cake & unhealthy stuff. The poor dog was as big as a house. Cameras followed her to the dog parlour where the dog-washer remarked "How sad your owner overfeeds you, it's so cruel." - the owner was furious. "I keep my dog happy, cake makes her happy!"

Now there's been a law change; inappropriate feeding is now classed as animal cruelty. Yay!

@PiplupTheTorrent you can feed your dog lots of things but the things that taste good isnt always good for the dog. fried chicken isnt good for you, so its not going to be good for the dog. stick with dog food. you can give dogs peanut butter, cheese, and yogurt but these can be fatty if you abuse giving it to them. you can actually give your dog raw meat. raw meat is better for them then cooked meat believe it or not. you can google foods dogs should NEVER eat if youre curious about it.

@crapout11 no. having a dog should be a family commitment. depending on the dog breed and size, a dog can live up to 10-15 years. whats going to happen when youre off to college? your parents clearly do not want a dog...once youre gone, what happens to the dog? or what happens when the dog is sick or injured? parents willing to pay for vet care? it can cost $50-$100 just for the vet to see your dog. sorry to say but preteens and teens generally dont take care of the dog....their parents do.
