  • I hate death. it lasts forever.

  • @demonicspire1 I thought god is almighty? If he hates fags, perverts and blasphemers so much, WHY DOESN'T HE JUST KILL ALL OF THEM?

And besides, if he IS real, why aren't you dead yet?

  • first ad i have actually shed a tear for, still get goose bumps everytime i see it soo simple yet powerful too all victims of car accidents may you rest in peace. grandma :' )

  • I was in a car crash just recently I was badly injured I cut my forehead n had to get stitches n I lost a lot of blood but not to much that someone had to give me some but luckily I didn't die cause I don't want my mum crying every time she sees the commercial

  • i've never lost a loved one due to a car accident but this comercial makes me cry

  • angie hart covering this makes it so much more devastating..

  • This is hilarious. I personally beleive that the people who die in traffic accidents were marked yb god for death. By reducing the number of traffic accidents, you are trying to defy gods will. Not a smart strategy.

  • @demonicspire1 Wrong, car accidents happen because the driver wasn't paying attention, was drunk, icy roads or going to fast to react to things pulling out in front of them. No car accident happens because some god wants the people to get seriously injured or die, that's the stupidest theory ever. I know it's not my place to tell people what to beleive, but you need to think logically to make cares more safe to stop more tragedies from happening.

  • @demonicspire1 And additionally, I can't believe how HORRIBLE you are! You find a video about tragic deaths FUNNY?! You sick, twisted, horrible person! If you keep this up you're going to be the next Adolf Hitler, and be hated forever! It's pious, racist, heartless bastards like you who have made planet earth a living hell.

  • @BlazetheFireDragon I agree, this is the knew Adolf Hitler! I really am not looking forward to world war 3, which will be caused by this reigious prick! I don't usually has religous people, but this is the sort of guy tht I tal about all of the time, the ones that say it's an act god and that they should die! Which akes me think, isn't this even more proof that god does not excist? Because apprently he loves everyone, why would he want to kill them? Sorry I feel sick because of this guy *vomits*

  • @demonicspire1 Your a a fucking sick dick ass wad prick! Do you know that? "Oh you shouldn't be fighting gods will! Well herews my opinion, god does not excist, there is no proof, no icnking, yes a guy called Jesus may have called himself the son of god, but that would have been a con, fuck you are seriously ill! You think it's funny? You need see a doctor you fucking sick dick, I mean you can believe in god, but thinking if god is around he wants this, see a fucking doctor!

  • @demonicspire1 Also have you not heard of science, which has proven much more useful for helping people? Because of religion science was neglected for years! Well bye Adolf Hitler, yeah your as bad as him! Go to hell! It's abviously where you want to be! Because your trying to make Earth into hell! You know what, I hate people who take religion this far! By the way, if god loves everyone, how come he made my life fucking hell?!

  • @spyro2060 this is the essential mistake most people who have trouble with religion make: god does NOT love everyone. He hates fags, perverts, and blasphemers. Also, I am in no way suggesting a halt to the march of technology, merely a curtailing of the interference into god striking down those which hath offended his eye.

  • @demonicspire1 You are a terrible person.

  • @demonicspire1 waiting for the time when religious fanatic christians become extinct. it will be a good day

  • @IckleBowzy what about history implies to you that religious fanatacism will ever die? I'll laugh when you and your family are impaled on spikes.

  • Not a single person in my Year Twelve class knew who this song was by. That almost made me sadder than the ad itself :'(

  • Wow, can't believe people are actually trying to argue that speeding isn't dangerous. There are speed limits for reasons, so that you drive at an appropriate speed for the particular road you're on and so that everyone else driving around you is also driving at a safe rate. The fact is that in a large proportion of motor vehicle accidents excess speed is a major contributing factor. This video is aiming to hit a nerve to make people think twice about speeding.

  • @BankruptGM Not everyone is lucky, today technology has advanced, those pictures were in 2000. Speeding can kill, just because you do doesn't mean others should. That's why people are photographed for that. Nothing is perfect, these things happen, human error or luck, everything claims lives.

  • @huntkjk i dont travel at high speeds just 10~20km/h over the limit.

  • @BankruptGM That still can kill, if the speed limit is 60mph, you're going 80. No one can survive that. That's the whole point of this video/ advert.

  • @huntkjk any speed limit can kill I saw a fatal accident where the driver was going less than 35kph it all depends on the point of impact in this case even at that speed the car was still wrapped around a tree

  • @irishgodfatherchris That's my point, if your going 1 mph off a cliff it makes no difference to whether you're going 100 mph off a cliff. Any speed can be as fatal as the next depending on the circumstances.

  • im a seventeen year old male. and there is no way i can sit through this video without crying. december last year i lost a bestfriend, what hurts me the most is that my mistakes made a mother and 2 brothers have to deal with the loss of a son and a brother.

i didnt save my bestfriend. but i hope iv reminded someone else from losing theirs

  • Speeding claims far more victims than those injured or killed, the families having to live with terrible loss suffer their own ongoing pain. Drinking and Driving carries a sentance for everybody involved

  • To see them cry is far more moving than to see the people themselve killed.

  • Today I saw an accident. I was the first on the scene. There were 2 cars. I pulled over. Got out. Ran to one car, while calling emergency. Checked the occupant. He was conscious and alert. I checked the other car. There was a lady in the car. She was dead. In one moment her life went from normal to non existent. Tonight, I sit here searching, trying to find some solace in her death. Tonight, her family gather, mourn, re-live and reflect. RIP anonymous lady. I wish I could have saved you.xxx

  • i lost a friend 0ct 22 2009 because of people speeding in san jose ca This girl had the biggest hart and left so many loved ones she was only 20 and had so much to live for WE LOVE YOU AND WILL NEVER FORGET YOU ALLY

  • This song gives me shivers every time.

It can break down even the most belligerent driver

  • easily the most effective campaign they've ever done

a point to note not captured by this video, is that in the actual ad, following the final message 'slow down' was an even simpler appeal, with the just the word 'please'. so simple yet so poigniant.

  • I remember this ad well. It was screened on all channels at the same time when it premiered. I just sat there is awe...shocking

  • Cars are lethal weapons and should be treated as such. I don't know what to do about the stupid idiots with small penis syndrome who think they're Tom Cruise in a fighter plane. Cameras are a start. Maybe make them visit these people and come face-to-face with the results of stupidity like theirs?

  • ive lost 5 of my frenz within a yr due to car accidents...im not gonna lie, it doesnt get easier! be careful on roads coz the pain is unbearable!

  • wow.

  • That has to be one of the most powerful ads I've ever seen.

  • this ad nearly made me cry when i first saw it

i was watching the footy and my eyes were nearly filled with tears when it came back on!

  • Same. Seriously it was the song and all the sad people. Its making me teary now.

  • I think speed cameras are dangerous at night

i saw one go off on a guy the other day and he swerved all over the road for 50 metres after.

it was like a frickin flash bang!

    sooo bright.

  • @Templenizzle Where were you?

  • @dutto75man Behind the guy on the freeway

  • Comment removed

  • i agree with you bobman! im just a cynic...but the government makes money from people sppeding,smoking.....and anything else they can tax...n say its for the benefit of society!!!!! what i hate it that they are not doing it for the human race...but 2 line their own pockets!!!!!

  • Anyone know who actually sings this song? I know the song is Pictures of You but cant get this version,

    cheers

  • Angie Hart sings it, it's in the description :)

I've put this info as an annotation at the start of the clip so it's more noticeable to others

  • @DevitaExire The video caption says "'Pictures of You' - Angie Hart (original artist: The Cure)". The video description says "The song is a cover of 'Pictures of You' by The Cure - sung by Angie Hart.". In no place have I not given credit to The Cure as being the original artist. And yet when I answer a comment asking who the singer of this version is, you seem to think it means I've suddenly given Angie Hart full credit for writing the song?

  • @ausvision where can i hear/download the full version of the song?

  • @DevitaExire You fail

  • @dougie097 The original version was written and performed by The Cure.

  • i would hate to lose any family member =[

  • I hope your Mum dies in a speeding accident.

  • fuck off cunt, i hope your fucking bitch of a mother gets cleaned up cunt

  • dude imagine if someone whos brother or mum got killed this way. Think.

  • If the government relies so heavily on revenue from fining speeding drivers, why would they run 3 minute long adverts to discourage people from speeding?

It's in the government and TAC's best interests to stop fatalities and injuries on the roads - these things cost them money, especially when they have to financially cover people for accidents. It is also in the public's interest to run safety campaigns like this.

  • @Bobman84 rot in hell u r the reason we still have a high road toll, think about the fucking families! i never say the f word but im so outraged by ur comment, be ashamed of youself!

  • Excuse me, but my brother was killed buy a speeding driver. And you have no idea how it fucking feels do you? And yes, I know that it's not a leading cause of deaths in Australia, but it dose not make it any less painful.

I hope someone close to you gets cleaned up by a speeding driver so you know how it fucking feels.

  • Improving hospital waiting lists costs a hell of a lot more than an advertising campaign which will save lives and save the govt money, money which can then be spent in other areas, including hospitals.

As for smoking, in case you haven't noticed, the government has taken countless measures against smoking - the Quit line, advertising, banning smoking in many public places, restricting the sale of tobacco, the list goes on.

What would you want the police to do, arrest people for smoking?

  • Comment removed

  • Your an idiot. There are taxes on cigarettes because they cause an overwhelming amount of health problems that lead to stress on the health department. There are speed cameras to discourage speeding. Police shouldn't have to sit in there car all day worrying about speeding drivers, they are highly trained persons who should spend there time else were. Speed cameras should have no effect on you if you simply don't speed.

  • that's just brutal

  • Bit too long. Affective, but the DETR in England did a similar thing by having video footage of kids play out over various voice recordings then reveal their identities at the end. It was half the length at the longest and just as poignant. But a solid effort from all involved nonetheless.

  • why do people even speed?

sure your going real fast and you like to feel it in your seat, but at what cost? its just foolish and stupid. anyone who does speed has no mind and thinks only of himself.

    good luck. not.

  • don't speed, it's not cool you inconsiderate foolish bastards.

  • ppl that speed, shouldnt have drivers licenses... if fact... some of them shouldnt even hav a life... i am so agaisnt speeding driving... basically everyone in my family has been in a car accident because of those asses... one family member was so close to death. to all u speeders out there. U CAN GO FUCK YOURSELVES!!!!!

  • I remember when this add came on, ass soon as i heard the piano i literally froze, it caught my attention immediately, it is such a powerful add, and it's true, i hope it got through to a lot of people

  • There is honestly no excuse for speeding. Nobody except you thinks you're a hero. Actually, everybody thinks you're a moron for endangering everybody else's lives on the road. All the dickhead hoons I know go on about hating the cops, but the cops wouldn't have a reason to book them if they weren't doing anything wrong. Do the crime, pay the fine.

  • it makes me cry everytime

also that workplace safety add where th family sees the report on the tv and the girl cries and hugs her dad when he comes home

    damn

    very touching

  • This was shown on the "Gruen Transfer" - they said some pretty amazing things about this ad.

You should check it out! - they talked about how all these families are real families affected by hoons. Also - if you see the first photo they show with a date on it... he passed away 40 years ago! And the family is STILL hurting! - the death of a loved one is a powerful thing you'll keep with you for life.

  • HOLY FUCK, at 2:55 there's a person named RYAN EVANS that goes to my school!!!! holy fuck man..........?

  • im a hoon, but i dont want to be a hoon on the public roads. But the racetracks arent open to the public, they're open to rich people with race cars. At least i dont be a hoon in built up areas, i go to fairly unused places so i am unlikely to harm the public. People just dont seem to understand that speeding to people like me is the most important thing in life, everything else comes second, So why arent the racetracks open to me, where it is a save environment for everyone.

  • I think people like you and I should learn to be patient and save our money for track days and dyno tuning... and not getting caught doing the wrong thing. Its all about highnsight. I've never crashed from speeding and never will... but im going to get reemed by the courts instead (lets just say about 4k in fines)... so either way... its a bad idea.

  • To all those people who say hoons have small dicks and are stupid... that doesn't help... People like me don't listen to aggressiveness... it just makes me want to punch your lights out.

There is just a lack of education about speeding. Too bad I had to find out the hard way. Atleast it wasnt the hardest.

  • Aaron Welsh, 17

    Killed 2002.

  • It's more revenue raising than safety. Why do you morons think people give a shit about you?

  • wats this song?

  • I can not believe the govenmemt would manipulate these devastated people, to try and make speed cameras more tolerable in our community.

A government commercial endeavor in very poor taste.

    No I don't speed.

No I am not a hoon.

    See SnarkusParkus comment.

  • Bull. This ad is an effort to stop people becoming devastated in this way. If I was one of them, I wouldn't need to be manipulated to be on a ad like this if it minimized the likelihood of such a devastating tragedy to occur to another. Its a bloody good ad. And no the government isn't out to make life worse for everyone as is the mentality of a lot of people, what benefit could that possible have to them if they did?

  • I agree with fursdon. They should have ads like these in the UK

  • The people were probably happy to do it because they don't want it to happen to anyone else. I applaud them.

  • guys i've found the name of the artist of the song to be "Angie Hart" according to the ad campaign website- wonderful song, wonderful ad. I hope this is some hoon with a heart that is able to see this.

  • You have to admire the way that these families are willing to share their grief with millions of people.

There could have been a risk that this ad could have dredged up long forgotten feelings of grief following the completely avoidable loss of a loved one. I really hope that careless drivers who love speed think twice, otherwise more families will be looking at pictures of dead relatives

  • why isnt this ad put on tv in the full version. We are currently battling, with the cops, a real hoon problem across the road in the football oval. I have kids, and i am actively trying to stop these people before somebody gets killed. I think we as every day people should play our part in stopping these people. Save a Life, Report the crimes.

  • =[ so sad

  • this never fails to make me cry

  • ditto

  • Victorian Police's own statistics show that around 6% of all fatalities are caused by exceeding the posted speed limit. TAC defines speeding as driving too fast for the conditions, even if below the speed limit. In reality, as per police statistics, exceeding the posted speed limit is rarely the cause or the reason for the accident/fatality. This is nothing more than an exploitation of real people's grief in order to justify the proliferation of speed cameras and their >$300M revenue.

  • even if it was 1% should it not be regarded as a problem?

If people die at the result of someones carelessness or for the sake of someones 'fun' I'd say they should do alot more. Stop thinking about money, it doesn't always make the world go round.

  • @SnarkusParkus Yea and the TAC bill is 3 Billion per year. Id rather leadfoots like you pay the difference so i dont have to pay it through my vehicle registration. Do the maths if your so clever.

  • Can't believe I found this! Tried to tape it off the telly but they keep playing the short one. Well done, as most of these ads are. Lovely version of the song... thanks

  • this ad is sooo sad

  • So sad

  • thanks

  • what song is this, it's pictures of you, but why what artist?

  • angie hart

  • i would just like to point out that I am a huge cure fan and I think that the angie hart version is just as amazing as the original. This add is just amazing. Really effective

  • how is that butchering? can you never heard of 'making a song your own?" If it was up to people like you we'd all be stuck listening to the same shit over and over again, only in its original form. BORING. Change the channel.

  • I use that turn of the phrase very often indeed, only this provides no such occasion. being a staunch Barthean, I actually believe in the irreducible plurality of meanings and interpretative frameworks, that everything in a way is a re-contexualization of smth else. but taking such an ingenious piece of alternative pop, with its seamless blend of grit and shimmer, achieved in part through using the 6 string bass, and turning it into lifeless piano balladry pap - what does that amount to?

  • on a less academic note, sorry for hurting your Aussie pride, mate!

  • hahah hurt my pride? How so? I simply don't agree with what you are saying. No pride hurt at all, and using a few big words that you don't know the meaning of doesn't make you an academic. And what country do you hail from Amyparking>?

  • listen, just because you have an MA doesn't mean I can't have an opinion different to yours. I work in an entirely different field, and have had a different education, but that doesn't mean you can't be wrong. And maybe you should have got an MA is 'bragging' cause you certainly love yourself just a little don't you? And what difference does it make to this discussion what books I've read. I'm talking about music, which you LISTEN to, not READ.

  • I didn't know R Smith was a French poet! Wow!

  • the other thing is, I'm not saying that the piece of music you refer to isn't great, its just that I can enjoy this interpretation of it, SIMPLE! Oh, and the part where you said "butchering" I don't agree with either. Its been 're worked' and simplified. That doesn't make it 'bad' just different.

  • Wow. Amazing campaign, its just gut wrenching viewing. So effective though, really an amazing piece of art considering its something designed to stop us killing each other.

  • Touching ad..

em I was wondering if you have a download link to this ad, as I wanted to this ad for a oral talk for my english class.

    Please and thank you...

  • I would recommend using vixy.net to download clips from YouTube. Copy the web address of this page and paste it into vixy.net, choose AVI for Windows or MOV for Mac, and press Start.

  • When I saw the running time on this I thought, it's got to be too long for something like this. I was so wrong. This advert should be done in every country. It's extremely effective.

It's also touching that they show victims remembered from years past. It doesn't matter whether it was in 1968 or 2008, the pain for these people never goes away.

  • whats the name of the song?

  • the name of the song is 'pictures of you' by the cure. but they remade the song into a slow one.

  • Thanks! I love this song!

  • The is the first ad TAC has done with their new Marketing Director who came from WorkSafe and did their award winning 'Homecomings' campaign (all of the people coming home to their families etc). Shock tactics of actors being pulled out of cars, only work for a short amount of time. Seeing real human pain is different.

When I saw this ad when it was screened across all the comercial stations I was so emotionally moved. First time I have cried over an ad. Thank you to the families who appeared.

  • this ad makes me cry every time i see it... my family died in a car accident.. im only 13...

  • Aww thats so sad :( im 13 too, i havnt known anyone who has been in a car accident, but i feel for the ones that do.

This just touches me so, the song goes great as well

  • oh man. this is so sad. ryan evans went to parkwood secondary college. he was only in year 8!

the whole of parkwoods thoughts are with you

    RIP

  • I feel sorry for Justice Philip Cummins having to tell his Jury to ignore the ad.

"Some of the advertising is quite emotional which again is perfectly appropriate for an advertising campaign but you the jurors of course don't decide this case on emotion, you decide it on evidence and analysis," Justice Cummins said.

"So don't be affected by any outside considerations."

Only if they can change the channel in time.

A far better idea would be to give this ad the "Underbelly treatment"

  • I see at 2:02 the TAC are discouraging one seemingly illegal activity by promoting another seemingly illegal activity.

Don't councils get the shits with the adhoc roadside shrines?

2:03 last time it was less than 2% I don't think it'll have increased much.

  • that shrines for ryan evans. the 13 year old that died.. :\ i went to school with him. fairly sure those shrines aren't illegal.

  • This ad makes me cry so much. I've never seen the full version.

  • very touching

  • Wow. "Chilling" is right. For some reason, the truck-driver really chokes me up, esp. @ 01:35. I hope this ad gets through to its target audience.

  • Whilst speeding does kill, so does a lot of other things like, inattentive drivers, drivers who are asleep, drink driving. Its not the only cause and they should target theses other causes as well.

  • I agree, but this ad was made to focus on people who were killed due to speeders, which is why its message is about speeding. The TAC already have other ads that target drink driving, fatigue and other things.

  • who is the artist of this cure cover?

  • Angie Hart ;)

  • Its amazing at how much we can plan and make videos to try and stop people from speeding but the numbers in fatalities are not going down, they are increasing! although we might not have the answer, if we all work together and keep on making the consoquences aware to drivers, we might just get somewhere! So please DONT SPEED!

From personal experiences, i was in a car crash once, not a serious one, but i could easily have lost my life!!

Think about others on our roads, and also there families!

  • This clip makes me so upset how irrespoinable idiots speed. Speeding may get you to your destination faster but it puts others in risk.

By the ends of this I had tears running down my eyes. xx thank you

  • Awesome Ad. I do't speed and now know even more why. Please don't speed on our roads. PLEASE.

Also does anyone know the artist of this version of The Cure's song, Pictures of you?

  • Have searched around a bit, turns out the singer is Angie Hart

  • I drive a long distance every day and in the past week since I've seen this ad I never let the needle even slightly cross the speed limit. These are real people, not actors and this ad really shows the pain left with families of victims of speeding on the roads.

    DON'T SPEED!

  • how convenient the government also makes bucketloads of revenue from speeding drivers. most state budgets in australia would fall apart if people didn't ignore mostly bullshit speed limits especially on highways.

  • If that's the case, why do they advertise telling you to slow the fuck down?

  • because then they can justify their bullshit penalties.

  • I really don't understand how people can moan about wanting to save lives. The penalties are not bullshit, and if people are going to get a ticket and moan about it, it's entirely their own fault.

I will, however, say that putting speed cameras where there are no accidents, and on downhill runs, is definitely bullshit, so we're agreed on that one.

  • Firstly, Fuck you!

People do die on the roads, Such as a few of my family members. If tickets will make people think again about speeding then fucking fine away.

  • IsThisFunnyYet, how did they die, were they speeding on an empty road?

  • thats nice isn't it ... my son watch's this vid on u tube and you go swearing have some consideration..So sad my thoughts with familys

  • Pro tip: The internet is an uncensored medium, perhaps you should exercise some restraint on what your children watch instead of complaining.

  • IT'S A CONSPIRACY!

    You fucking idiot.
