It's actually a good idea not to release the throttle, otherwise when you hit the water the prop will be spinning at a lower speed and act like a brake throwing driver and crew forward, not a comfortable ride!
btw blista, it is better to ease off the throttle in the air so the engine is under less strain, aslong as you throttle up a little when you hit the water it will be fine plus you are forgetting the cavitation if you hit the water at full throttle,
After another season I'd agree with you now. Actually keeping the throttle on full causes the engine to over-rev and if the prop is spinning too fast when it hits the water as it slows down it can bend the drive shaft.
As usual it's different people say totally different things.
can someone tell me if you have to release the throttle when the engine is out of the water on a surf IRB? I would have thought so, but these guys don't appear to be doing so... anyway, very impressive, the coaches in my club would kill to be able to drive an IRB like that.
what is the name of this rescue boat? i´m a spanish lifeguard.

You dont have to release the throttle when in the air, the engine revs higher for the few seconds that you are off the water but no damage is done
