Her Emmy Award was as a guest star in a 1997 episode of the show Ellen; in this episode she played a fictionalised parody of herself: a closeted lesbian more concerned with the media finding out she is actually American
Two typical reactions at awards ceremonies: the hysterical winner and the loser who does not succeed in hiding her true feelings. Emma Thompson is so extremely talented and versatile. I would like to see all episodes of this comedy show, but I do not think they are not available on DVD or on internet.
most likely she is lip-synch-ing to herself,: a fine voice, but clearly recorded standing still, not whilst doing a vigorous "dance" if that's what you call those choreographed movements...
The "new wave" dance style mentioned by rhyfeddu suddenly made me think of Peter Garrett from "Midnight Oil" who did some very similar dance moves as part of his on stage performance as the Oils lead singer. Strange indeed to think that Australia's new federal Minister for the Environment, and Emma Thompson have something in common from the crazy 80s.
The old beta video tape was quite fuzzy, so I used some digital processing "filters" in an attempt to make the clip clearer and sharper. That is probably what makes the eyes look unnatural (??)
if you managed to pause at 2:05... what the...?

first time I've seen her with make-up. All her movies she seems a natural face and it proves make-up hides character.

Every surviving video frame has been included in this clip.
Up For Grabs was accidentally recorded at the end of a video tape which had been set-up to record the preceding program: a 3-hour opera performance.
that's your lot, tinustijger...

Emma *is* wickedly brilliant isn't she... and she looked gorgeous in the blue dress.
But I have to say... the very VERY 80's title sequence is rather horrific.
