Hr4 (Hunter rank 4) is the first place to find carbalite. You can upgrade the farm mining to +2 and from there mine carbalite, but it is RARE and takes forever. Your best bet is to mine from the G-rank Kushala Daora Hide in the Mountain Gathering Quest. Hope that helps you...
G-rank quests are in the guild hall where the green girl is. Talk to her after you beat the Shen Gaoren which is the urgent quest after the guild hall's five star quests. G rank quests are fighting the same monsters with a new twist: your put in the middle of the map with no supply items (which means no map) and fight until supplies arrive, there are no small monsters and instead there is one OTHER big monster like a bulldrome or something. And most importantly the monsters are harder.

good job man. i beat him first go today but the horn tip will come in handy. rathalos was a life/death struggle though.
