  • we should have been independent since 1898!

  • Tagalog: Ako ay Filipino-American. Ang magulang ko ay Pinoy kaso, born ako sa San Francisco, CA, USA at raised ako sa Manila (13+ Years).

English: I am a Filipino-American. My parents are Pinoy but I was born in San Francisco, CA, USA but raised in Manila (13+ Years).

I love and respect the Philippines and United States and the girl I love is American and I'm glad we're an ally of the USA.

Of course I still prefer our Philippine independece.

  • tanks2 usa because of them we become a good nation,,,a good asian english speaking...MABUHAY

  • watch?v=pxI1mjZeeSw

  • LOL America should have stayed. We could have been the 51st state of the U.S...prosperous, stable and disciplined.

    COME BACK AMERICA.

Independence means able to stand on our own without having to beg for loans and ask help from the United States whenever China threatens us. More Filipinos are better off in America than in the Philippines.

WE FUCKED UP, LET'S BRING AMERICA BACK. We suck in government.

  • @1818JoseRizal1898 your right...IF only the philippines not become as an independent nation....maybe we are the 50th state of america.. not the hawaii

  • @alecjohnpgarcia yeah and we'll be wiped out like the navajos and other tribes in north america. instead of our nipa huts standing in top of the mountain, it would be a big mcdonald where some of us work while others wait for garbage

  • It's been changed though to June 12. Good Independence Day to all Filipinos.

  • A nice part of our history that we should treasure.

  • Gen. Douglas Mc Arthur's message: "It was the beneficent sovereignty of a liberator pledged to be withdrawn as soon as the well-being of the people would safely permit.".."SOON AS THE WELL BEING OF THE PEOPLE WOULD SAFELY PERMITS"..economically laid back..corruption are rumphant.. killings everywhere.. people seated as Philippine officials overuse and abuse their power... THIS IS NOT DOUGLAS MAC ARTHUR MEANT AS THE EVENTUALITY OF THE LIBERATION...A LAND OF THE THIEVES, LIERS AND BASTARDS...

  • What a glorious period in Philippine history! It's electrifying to see President Manuel Roxas take oath as the Philippines' first president after 4 years of Japanese occupation (1941-1945), almost half a century of American rule (1898-1946), and more than 300 years of Spanish control (1571-1898). Likewise moving was Gen. Douglas Mc Arthur's message: "It was the beneficent sovereignty of a liberator pledged to be withdrawn as soon as the well-being of the people would safely permit."

  • @nanamouskourri76 Don't kid yourself. McArthur's statement is pure propaganda. PH History 101: Tydings-McDuffie Act of 1934 was US Law that promised Philippine Independence in 1944. Only it was delayed by WW2. After the War, when the PH was devastated by American bombing, the US govt tried to take advantage and delay independence promising full restoration so long as we agreed to having permanent US bases. We smartly said NO THANKS UNCLE SAM! US govt = lies & deceit

  • PHILIPINOS ASKED FOR INDEPENDENCE YET, THEY KEEPS PUSHING THEMSELVES INTO AMERICA BY CROOK AND BECOME AMERICANS.. IT'S A SHAME TO THEIR PAST.. THAT I CALL.. PEOPLE OF IGNORANT IDIOTS...

  • If terrorists and other undesirable immigrants who want to bomb and destroy America can enter it so easily, then with more reason should some hardworking and educated Filipinos be permitted to immigrate there! And it isn't only Filipinos who are pushing themselves into America; countless nationalities as well do. Isn't America a land of immigrants? Perhaps America made a mistake in making you and your ancestors American citizens, filled as you are with bigotry, hatred and narrow-mindedness.

  • @edpannewyork I dont push myself to be like you..we dont comment like you do..im proud of my race...so who is more ignorant idiot? Its no shame to us...shame to the invaders...Look how stupd you are.

  • @edpannewyork haha you are quite an idiot too cuz all Americans except native American Indians, come from immigrants who were not Americans. But Filipino immigrants in the early 1900's were American colonists since Philippines was an American colony from 1898-1946. Fyi, there are still immigrants from many other countries like UK, Austria, China applying for US citizenship, not just Philippines. But that has nothing to do with our love for independence.

  • like what Manuel Quezon, the Philippine Commonwealth President, put in words, "I would rather have a country run like hell by Filipinos than a country run like heaven by the Americans, because however a bad Filipino government might be, we can always change it"... The Philippines has yet to see progress in all aspects...

  • Be careful noy to argue with an idiot, a passerby may not be able to tell you apart!

  • What a joke. Even though Philippine is now a independent country, we have so many fucking Philippino immigrants moving to the US.

The American government should grow balls and say no to these people! They already got their independence. They should stay in their "wonderful" country!

    Stop coming to the US!

  • "American sovereignty"? It was a military occupation! We fought using our weapons, naturally, we lost.

But Filipino's never let America think that we wanted to become like her. US enacted a Federal Law that will give us independence on the condition that the US can have military bases forever. We "fought" it, this time with our brains and wits. We won.

Look it up people. Stop believing in that American propaganda who wanna change history.

  • @AccordGTR I respect your opinion. But please tell your own people to stop coming to the US! We don't like them!

  • @ttiiyy Tell them yourself. I don't like living in the US either. Now its all full of gangs and druggies and so expensive to live in. But Filipino's are hard working, not like lazy white Americans who like to live off the govt. You know the USS George Washington that visited Manila Bay last week was 30% Fil-Ams? We're slowly taking over. Maybe one day we will see a Fil-Am President! Then we will have Jollibee buy out McDonalds. LOL

  • @AccordGTR LOL You don't like it here, get the fuck out of here. Give me a break.

  • @AccordGTR You know, you just made a statement that is going to piss off a lot of people in the US. If all white Americans were so lazy, when your people first came to this country, who the hell paid for their education? And who educated them?

    They were all whites!

So you just made yourself sound like an ungrateful dog. You piece of shit.

Go back to your country if you have so much to complain about.

You guys will never take over because HISPANICS are growing faster LOL

  • @ttiiyy Excuse me, Fil. immigrants to the US pay taxes too so don't gimme that shit about being ungrateful. Where do you think your ancestors came from? All Americans are immigrants except for the native American Indian. You are obviously a racist as well as uneducated person. How do you think American became the most powerful country? By occupying countries like Phils., South America, Cuba, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan etc. Filipinos contributed a lot to US except you dont know it.

  • @AccordGTR If the US had not defeated Spain, you Filipinos would still be ruled by the Spanish, you moron. Funny that you "forgot" to mention that. The Spanish were pretty badass, and you guys were afraid to challenge them!

The Philippines is now an INDEPENDENT country! Why the hell are you motherfuckers still iving here? The US no longer owns the Philippines. You can pack up your stuff and go back to your country now!

And no, we do NOT occupy South America, Cuba, etc LOL

  • @ttiiyy thank you USA!!!

  • @ttiiyy You don't even know your own country's military history, much less mine. You didn't know that Gen. Aguinaldo declared Philippine independence on June 14, 1898, a month BEFORE the Americans landed. Of course, you also didn't know that one of our national heroes Lapu-Lapu killed the famous Magellan in the Battle of Mactan in 1521. In the Phil-American War 1898, our brave Filipino nationalists killed 1,053 American soldiers in battle. Total 4,390 US soldiers died in that war.

  • @AccordGTR hahahha also Puerto Ricans have fought in every war with America since WW1. We did not just fight in the Pacific we also fought in Europe.

  • @AccordGTR LOL So, once again, why are you fucking people moving to the US again? You guys are more pathetic than prostitutes!

  • @ttiiyy your right about that spanish are badass but sorry to mention we have fought spanish and spain itself that your little country(puerto rico) have never done, period, this is a fact not a comment of racism like you did.

  • @templar1694 LOL My country is Puerto Rico? First of all, I am not Puerto Rican. Secondly, PR is part of the US territory, you moron.

What confuses me here is that the US gave your fucking country the "freedom" and the indepedence. Wasn't that what you motherfuckers wanted?

So why move to the US after the independence?

Why bother celebrating independence here in the US if you people don't even want to live in your own country?

    That doesn't make sense.

  • @ttiiyy , bastardo!

  • @ttiiyy No more No less ur chiness.lmao

  • @lovebugzy26 No more No less ur Filipinos lmao

Get the fuck out of the US lmao

  • @ttiiyy Well i can also say Get out in RP!You cant make people live like you do...or follow you..hahahahaa!!Pity

  • @lovebugzy26 Tsk!nationalist...racist....Geez im proud that im a filipino full of RESPECT!

  • @templar1694 Filipinos swallowed their pride to be independent as all of their presidents visiting US are begging for US investors. If I were president Obama, I will say "We have given you freedom, what else do you want?" Also, US is still giving funds for Mindanao rehabilitation. What a shame to be under US shadow. Manila today is very different from American era, as what my grandpa remember.

  • Philippine presidents visit America to strengthen our alliance with them, not just to "beg" for money as you cheaply stated. Shortly after independence, during the Cold War, Philippines was the strongest US ally in Southeast Asia against communism. We hosted their largest air and naval miitary bases in Asia, then. During the present War on Terror, Philippines is at the forefront again as one of the US' major non-NATO allies in combatting terrorism in Southeast Asia. It's a partnership, stupid!

  • @AccordGTR Filipino's have nerve to talk, I have been to there its way worse, how do you compare US to a third world country

  • @VanOstrum You have no idea how rich people live in 3rd world countries like Philippines, Vietnam, China. You have no idea there are millions of Americans & other nationals moving to 3rd world countries because there is more business opportunity and a much higher standard of living cuz they can afford to have maids, drivers, cooks etc. If you are just an average American with no rich friends in the Phils, then you cannot appreciate the beauty of our country. Sorry.

  • @AccordGTR Yes I know I have been there, But alot of them are rich Perverts looking for young boys and girls, I remember when I went there I liked it for the same reasons you like it but its also full of drug dealers, Terrorist, trannys galore, Perverts etc. Its fun but only when you are rich, I remember the Philippines its full of old men who can not get pussy in the western world so they go to 3rd world countrys looking for desperate woman. Still a fun place

  • @VanOstrum Ah, you don't know us at all. Pedophiles are reviled especially in the Philippines unlike US where child pornography is rampant. Pornography is illegal in the Phils while legal in the US. The official Philippine median age is only 22.5 years. Compare that to US median age of 36.7 years old so how can you say "Phils is full of old men"? I bet you only hung out in strp clubs and girlie bars which are considered low-class. You never went to Embassy (Republic), Greenbelt or Boracay?

  • @AccordGTR lol Now I know you are lieing I remember when I went to Cebu City it was full of perverts, trannys flashing their tits to every foreigner. Its full of fumes, the people their are so dumb their idea of getting rid of trash is burning it and pissing on it, the whole area would smell like piss

  • @VanOstrum No, I am not lying (not lieing), those are facts you can look up. Cebu City sucks, I agree, but it has changed a lot and improved. Maybe you went there a long time ago? But have you been to the beautiful beaches/resorts of Cebu or Maria Luisia Village? I bet you haven't. In Northern Cebu Island is a resort called Malapascua famous worldwide for its Thresher Sharks that came out in NAT GEO. Did you know that? Do you dive or just hang out in girlie bars?

  • @VanOstrum In a developing country...there are educated citizens and uneducated..so dont conclude anything about my country

  • @AccordGTR Phillapines have all those recourses and its still so poor you 3rd world country's do not deserve to govern your selfs

  • @VanOstrum Try to spell it right, will ya? It's Philippines and resources, not Phillapines and recources. hahaha. Yeah sure we are 3rd world but we damn sure know how to spell better than you. Where the hell were you born, Cebu? LOL

  • @AccordGTR So its just a typo who cares, Its not like I am writing a report, lol I went to the schools in the Philippines they are like 100 times worse than in America and thats really bad because our schools are pretty bad. No I remember I saw trannys, Perverts etc in your malls lol at least we do not piss on our trash after burning it lol, at least we do not live in bamboo houses ha

  • @VanOstrum Ah ok I know people like you. You were petitioned by your parents or relatives to go to the US and so now you consider yourself American but you are really Filipino. You still like to eat like Filipino, you look like one and sound like one but yet, you insult your own country. That is sad. That is why we are not a great country but we can be one. You are the product of colonialism. You should try to be proud of your heritage. And what the hell are "trannys"?? LOL

  • @AccordGTR hahahahhaha I am half white half Puerto Rican, I was born in Philadelphia, the first capital of the US and my ancestors came here on the Mayflower, I am as American as can be

  • @VanOstrum What???is it wrong to live in a bamboo house/???were using our own natural resources...pity on you

  • @AccordGTR I also went to your markets you can not even find real Orange Juice there, only tang, You can not buy real Marlboro's or Cammels because they are all bootlegged.

  • @AccordGTR its full of American and European Perverts that look for boys and Girls, Its full of trannys, Terrorist, Diseases I can go on. Your McDonald's do not even have the real McDonald menus, all they have is two patty's and a small burger, even worse Jolly bee, how do you even compare the USA to a third world country, we became a world power in our first 89 years of being a country

  • @VanOstrum Oranges don't grow in tropical countries like Phils. but you can easily find imported OJ in our grocery stores. I hate all fast-food restaurants including McDo and Jollibee and smoking causes cancer. Fil-Ams get fat in the US cuz most of the food is junk and the basic American diet is high in cholesterol and antibiotics so when Americans come to Asia they easily get sick. Who wants to be a superpower when prices are so high and life is so hard?

  • @AccordGTR LOL We became a super power in less than 100 years no counry has ever done that, we became a country in 1783 we had the largest economy by 1870. Per capita is higher too, We have the highest

  • @AccordGTR A tranny is short for Transsexual

  • @VanOstrum If you ask racers and mechanics what a tranny is, it's short for a car's transmission. Ok, so you can see our difference already, right? And I live in the Philippines but I went to school and lived in the US for 10 years. I'l tell you, at least we can tell who the trans- and homo-sexuals here in the Philippines are cuz they don't hide it. In the US, you can't tell, maybe the policeman, football player or macho movie star is gay but they will hide it from you. LOL

  • @AccordGTR hahha Trans is also a term people use for transsexual as well.

  • @AccordGTR We saved you from Spanish Rule you should thank us

  • @VanOstrum You say you are American but 1-you spell worse than a 5th grader 2-you don't even know US demographics 3-you think Puerto Ricans are real Americans. Puerto Rico is not even a US state. It was a Spanish colony like the Philippines only it never got its independence.

  • @AccordGTR LOL Don't you realize hoe dumb you are? American is not a race Its full of so many different races. My ancestors came here on the Mayflower, I was born in Philadelphia the first capital where they signed the Declaration of Independence, Texas was once part of Mexico, are Texans Mexicans, ha Puerto Rico is in much better shape than the Philippines, why because we are part of the US our woman do not need to marry an old man to come to the USA.

  • @VanOstrum Puerto Rico has no identity. It is stuck in the past - kinda like the occupied territories of the Palestinians. No representation in the US Senate and no voting rights. Texas is represented. PR govt only controls its internal affairs but US controls everything else - basically like the Philippines when US occupied it 1898-1946. So don't talk shit since you are a nothing-nobody-trying-to-be-somebody. If you wanna be somebody, fight for your independence and have your own identity.

  • @AccordGTR LOL you know how long its been Like I said at least Its not a 3rd world country.

  • @AccordGTR hahaahah tranny is a slang term use for Transsexual, everybody Knows that. what an idiot

  • Comment removed

  • @kabarkada18 Do you even know what 2nd world mean? Obviously you don't. 2nd world countries are referred to advanced or relatively advanced communist countries. (U.S.S.R., China, Cuba)

  • @PunkRizal I know...i dont remember the time i posted that...1st world 2nd and 3rd world are used during ww2,1st world are the allies 2nd world are the germans-AXIS and 3rd world are those who are neutral...Obviously i do know.

  • @VanOstrum You dont even have the right to comment..cause you dont even have self respect

  • @ttiiyy are you a racist or just lost your job because of some filipinos who got the job? The only reason you would comment such things is that you are a racist or lost your job.

  • @templar1694 In what ways am I a racist? You guys are just retarded. You don't even want to live in your country, so why bother celebrating the independence of your country?????????????????

  • @ttiiyy wHAT>???whahahahahaha! We dont want to live in our country???hahaha i pity you...Americans were also colonized ...and they ragained their indepence too..so you are the retarded one.

  • @kabarkada18 What are you stupid? After Americans won the war for Independence, we have always lived and stayed in our country.

You Filipinos are a different story. The Filipinos are one of the largest immigrant goups in the US.

    You think that makes sense??????????/

  • @ttiiyy Dude??ive seen many americans in our province and cities. And your government allows filipino immigrant groups going in us.and so are we.And most of them are workers. So whats the problem about immigrating? And if you say negative things about this..then you should hate your government for letting my people work there and live in your beloved "America".So Is it a different story????And have you heard about the BALIKATAN?or the visiting armed forces in the philippines..So whats the problem??

  • @kabarkada18

1.) These Americans that you see in your country are just working there. I'm sure most of them are not applying for citizenships.

2.) Is the number of Americans in your country equal to the number of Filipinos living in the US? Let's stop playing dumb.

  • the philippines pay this independence day so its not free...americans are really demons!!!!!someday america will gonna burned like hell!!!!

  • @cbalshikya

well have you forgotten that they bought us from the Spaniards ? lol

  • @Shadelassy US bought Phils. from Spain? Where did you read your history from? Redneck Ricky?

  • @AccordGTR

I was saying the literal meaning of the actions of the Americans giving out $20,000,000 to Spain . It's been documented. And fyi I don't know who/what/whose/which is Redneck Ricky.

  • @Shadelassy Treaty of Paris 1898 was a peace treaty, not a sale - "Spain cedes to the United States the archipelago known as the Philippine Islands" for $20M. Spain wasn't selling the PH. In fact, she wanted to keep it but US gave her an ultimatum, surrender or lose it. Spain had no choice. To cede means to surrender. Spain was weaker militarily. US was the new imperial power. US had a knife to Spain's throat like a cheap gangster. $20M was humiliating to her.

  • @AccordGTR

I was saying the literal meaning of the actions of the Americans giving out $20,000,000 to Spain . It's been documented. And fyi I don't know who/what/whose/which is Redneck Ricky. If you ask me if I know Brian DUnning, yah I do. Lmao

  • kong sino man dito mag minsahi ay wag na wala naman kwenta ng pinas

  • @garloks anong pinagsasabi mo?!

  • Oh, brother... *facepalm*

  • american proclamation of RP independence is not grant of PHILIPPINE Sovereignty

BUT A RECOVERY OF A LOST FREEDOM STOLEN BY THE AMERICAN IMPERIALIST DEMONS!!!

  • ayyy kakatawa namang makita kung gaano ka ka ignorante, i bet hindi mo pa nabasa ang consitiution or sabihin na natin a basic structure ng sovereignty ng kahit anong bansa. "BUT A RECOVERY OF A LOST FREEDOM STOLEN BY THE AMERICAN IMPERIALIST DEMONS!!!" katarantaduhan yan, kung ginusto lang ng america na sakupin tayo ehhdi dapat nasa commonwealth parin tayo diba? sabihin natin may mga US forces dito, well kailangan ng training ng AFP mahirap patumbahin ang rebelde ngayon sa mindanao

  • Dear 762459-

You speak of "AMERICAN IMPERIALIST DEMONS." Without Americans, Philipinos might now be Japanese subjects and/or would have been exposed to a holocaust of their own at the hands of the Japanese.

  • @aqumn5 I was just quoting a damn commie, haven;t you read or comprehended what I said in my previous comment?

  • @aqumn5 At least try to get the spelling of Filipinos correct.

That's pure ignorance saying "we would be Japanese subjects if it weren't for US"

Go back to your elementary history books and check the facts. The Philippines NEVER surrendered to the Japanese. In fact, it was Gen. Wainright who surrendered 75,000 soldiers, the biggest US defeat in history. 150,000+ Filipino guerrillas continued the fight to the Japanese and aided McArthur's return by supplying vital intelligence.

  • @762459

  • @papasiap gago dami ka alam wala ka alam manahimik ka na lang

  • @garloks

cant you answer without swearing? lol

  • american proclamation of RP independence is not a grant of freedom but

A RECOVERY OF OUR STOLEN FREEDOM FROM AMERICAN IMPERIALIST DEMONS!!

  • is this happen in philippines?

  • i think we should not be annexed to America because Philippines has its own sovereignty...

we have our own national identity as a country...

  • wow awsome video know what my grand father is a US Veteran and he is a guardian of our country back at 1944 but he did not sign up the form to be a formal veteran in 1945 becuase he is busy of kicking the jap's ass in the world war 2 and my grandfather is 84 years old now strong and healthy.

  • This is one of the reminders that the Philippines have t stop joking or daydreaming about it's history, look at this July 4,1946 is the real independence day, our people is repeatedly fooled by the Arroyos by saying in 1898 we are really independent..........

  • The readiness of the nation can only be determined by its own people. The 2010 elections will be the chance for the people to speak up if they are ready to unite and labor all for the improvement of the republic which has been under corruption and selfishness of, not all but many of our officials.

You, by watching this video, means you are watching over the nation. And You, by commenting on this video, means you care for the nation. ^_^

  • The Philippines is better off being a US colony.

Like Jose Rizal said "We are not ready"

  • yeah! our immaturity shows in our politician... they can't resist corruption, full of selfishness and greed!

  • AGREED.

  • Wow! where did you get this video..??

  • It was held in the Luneta grand stand..

  • the current pres. or the one elected in the 2010 elections should plan ways to restore the economy, build roads, houses, schools, hospitals, and organize projects to clean the pasig river, manila bay, and other dirty areas

  • nice

  • i actually wrote a paper on the Philippines and their years of being colonized by the Spanish & the Americans-- my essay question was "How the American colonialism affect the Philippines in the long-term?"

  • Source:History & Conquest of the Phils by Alden March AM Copyright 1899

The link is archive org then search for the the conquest of the philippines. The youtube would not let me post a direct link to the website

  • Emilio Aguinaldo should have not been made into a president and hero. He sold his own people, that's why he went to Hongkong to received the first installment of 400,000 mexican dollars. He was paid by the Spanish government to disband his revolutionary government. The money were divided among him and his junta. Independence day should not be June 12. Jun 12 as our independence day is a glorification of Aguinaldo's treason.

  • America has given independence to the Philippines but America can always reclaim it back if situation permits!...

  • I don't think so!

  • actually, america wanted to extend the stay of its biggest (outside america) air and naval bases in the late 80's but the independent-minded philippine senate finally sealed the departure of the GIs from the country.

  • Might as well severe the hands that binds the 2 together isnt it? Philippines was seen as a puppet country by every Asian country out there because of the bases. Why would a foreign power have bases as big as Washington DC and Los angeles on a soverign land?

  • @edpannewyork they can't get the philippines back, rebels will not like that and civil war can broke-out easy and also we will fight americans, all the things american can do is treason and crime even if they help poor countries, they help poor countries because they have hidden agenda and that is bad.

  • before we were invaded by some invaders such as spain, america and japan...but now we are invaded by our own people(corrupt goverment leaders)...how good is that independece then?

  • july 4 or june 12??? which one is right? according to my grandparents july 4

  • HUWAD NA KALAYAAN

If history changed, perhaps the HUKBALAHAP liberated us.

  • that,s what am sayin if we are commonwelth country,we are not struggling to get a job worldwide.just like pakistan, ghana, jamaica, malaysia, cyprus.you know this country that iam mention is enjoying their succes being a commonwelth country.eventhough their are not rich country.

  • It's funny that I am now canadian, but somehow still wanting to be american.

  • Please post the portion when US flag was lowered and Philiipine flag was raised! This video is incomplete!

  • Pres. Quezon said, he would prefer the Phils. run like hell by filipinos to the country run like heaven by the Americans. It came from his pride and it sounds good. But what happened to our country after gaining "POLITICAL" independence from them. We are still under the U.S. although we have our own leaders. And we are very unfortunate that we never have had a president who does not steal...

  • Quezon junked the Burnham plan that will transform Manila into a beautiful city. He failed to realized what could be the benefit of that plan for future generation, I have the map of that plan. Now, Manila is very congested and chaotic city. He later decided to build a new capital outside Manila that is now Quezon City. What a waste of money!!!!

  • I guess this is one of the Filipinos greatest mistake to ask full independence from US. Now we shallowed our pride and the country never recovered from it's former glamour and status. Now, we are no. 1 most corrupt in Asia. I guess we should stay under commonwealth government, still under the protection and advise of the US. Living under American shadow has also negative impact, but in reality the American's did a great job in improving the life of the Filipinos.

  • The United States wanted to show that the Philippines prospered under their rule but in reality the Philippines was used as a market of American products and Filipino did not truly industrialize because of America's meddling on Philippine Economic Affairs. Another thing is that majority of Filipino leaders were before and to the present day are pro American, these leaders either followed the American interest or their own personal interest. Filipino leaders did what the US wanted!

  • hey, the philippines never prospered because of your greedy politicians! period! it is true that the philippines was used for american products, but use your commonsense, wouldn't it benefit the US if the philippines was more prosperous?there would be more rich people buying their products?istead of poor peasants bleeding the US or philippine treasury? the philippines proved to be an Achilles heel to the americans ever since and gave them independence ASAP.

  • they never did prospered from that exchange,40-year something rule, they probably thought that its in their best interest to let go....know your freakin' history before you preach...doesnt this kind of thing echoed like vietnam and iraq?

  • I know my history damn well than you do! I know that the philippines was an achilles heel to the Americans! and were better off letting go of the philippines, but You can never deny that the philippines had waay better living and economic conditions during that 50 years of american Rule than the Spaniard,Japs and the monkeys that are running the government right now all put together.

  • @cosmoduffgordon even if we are under the us supervision or now being independent the negative comments and quotes will never be out, all countries like to bully each other and in our case we are being humble and why.

  • pity this tragic day happened, the philippines was better off under American rule than to be ruled by Extremely corrupt Filipino officials! true, that we will be under their shadows, but better than living in shitty conditions under filipino dictators and corrupt officials bleeding the country dry!we could have been enjoying our Dollars by now and have the same status like Guam and Hawaii and puerto rico at least!

  • I agree with you. There is nothing to blame but the ancient Filipino administration. Quezon junked the Manila Burnham Plan that will make Manila as beautiful as Paris. He also said that "he wanted the Philippines to be ruled like hell by Filipinos, instead to be ruled like heaven by Americans. They didn't realize that this country will be deteriorated by future corrupt Filipino administration. Hawaii and Puerto Rico made a right choice to become loyal to the US.

  • Hawaii and Puerto Rico dont have a choice! Hawaii only have 1 native population, Puerto rico is fully hispanized country. Compared that to the Philippines, half hispanic, 1/4 Islamic, 1/4 Asiatic with over 70 natives tribes spread out in 7100 islands and combined population of 50 Million souls. Its simply too BIG, too far away, and too troublesome to be assimilated into the Union.

  • My friend, Hawaii and Puerto Rico's decision was done thru plebiscite to give them a better choice. In 1959, 94% of Hawaiian residents voted to become a US state, while Puerto Rico remained a commonwealth because they've learned lesson from the Philippines action when it became independent from US. They even celebrate their "dependence day" from the US. US once offered it hands for the Philippines to be admitted in the union in the near future thru "Benevolent Assimilation" in 1898.

  • @cosmoduffgordon it is not a shame for the philippines as americans killed 10% of the population(creoles) when they annex this country from spain so they have to give so much paybacks and also even if america give aid, the philippines don't consider it as a aid but a debt to be payed later. The philippines have helped the american government so much in ww2. It is not the business of obama to not give aid to the philippines and it is aid that the us government can give not investors.

  • @cosmoduffgordon the country is still loyal to america and don't be so jealous to hawaii and puerto rico, we can still be part of america but my question is if americans are ready for that to happen and ofcourse not there would be a lot of discrimination, it is better that we learned to our mistake or it is better just move to america.

  • What a pity Phils. asked for 'independence' just after the war. It should be developed first by USA before asking 'independence' or we should have been under USA. And this case, we'll not be working overseas searching for greener pastures. Our money should be dollars by now, sayang! ma pride tayo kasi o hindi tayo maka kupit. We missed the opportunity so we cannot recover since WW11.

  • Can someone post the portion where American flag was lowered, while Philippine flag was raised alone? Please I want to it!!!!

  • The Philippines until today isnt independent

GMA loans $6 billion from China

and corrupted the money.. to be used for constructing railways and infrastractures..

The Philippines seek aid for AFP..

The Philippines loans from Worlbank always

It cannot stand still without loaning

    You call that independence??

It doesnt mean that nobody is occupying or invading makes us independent..

Dependent tayo sa foreign aid! LD

  • "gain its independence of american VOLUNTARY action..." wow thats nothing we could have independence without americans. im getting tired of them pushin other countries but they know philippines and other asian countries have a lot more pride and tradition and balls than americans themselves .

  • feeling naman ng mga ameriKano na yan mga bayani cla....isa nga cla ung mga nagpahirap sa ating mga pilipino eh...

  • It is totally mistake that America have dropped it's right and sovereignity against the Philippines. Hundred and thausands of Americans poured their blood life to this that country where, Americans should have fought to control resisting philipino people against American governance. In this world... we never sacrifice our lives out of nothing.

  • @edpannewyork first if america do that it's called genocide and that will impact too much to their economy and relation to other countries and also learn to know that the philippines is an island nation not a big lump of land so there would be so many resistance. The only place they have occupied so much is luzon island and they merely have contact to some of the tribes(the philippines have many tribes in the mountanous areas that the americans didn't explore even spanish themselves).

  • It's great to see this rare clip of Philippine history here in YouTube.

And, by the way, it's Manuel Roxas. The "j" in Rojas should be an "x".

  • i can't understand some of the lines..oh no..

  • i don't think Philippines really got the independence on July 4..i believe that Filipinos are still under american's shadow..

however, thanks for letting me to have this information..

  • thats not uncle tom its uncle sam asssholeee

  • I heard from an American WW2 vet who was there that it was quite a celebration. He's 80 years old now and served as a NY police officer later in his career. He said he never saw anything like it again... it's bigger than any celebration at times square. Pretty awesome!

  • 1.Hello, the Philippines was the first Iraq, the first Vietnam, the first colony of America. After "annexing" us, when they fought a mock battle against the Spaniards, they erased our memory thru the boatloads of teachers nicknamed "Thomasites". I graduated highschool in 1991 in UP Visayas, and still, merican History was part of our curriculum.

  • @botlok the thing you said that the americans erasing our memories of the thing we learnt from spain is called brainwashing and also they killed 10% or more of filipino population who have spanish ancestry or spanish knowledge and banned the spanish language(human rights abuse) and your right we are the first iraq and vietnam and i think the history just repeat itself.

  • Youtube flubbed it. my comments arent arranged in order--siguro,its a little long...i will number it

  • Here is probably a major reason aside from the Phils military significance in global location. Remember the illegal federal reserve in 1913; the consolidation of US gold in Fort Knox, and similar incidents? The Philippines has always been a gold exporter. And our mountains were teeming of gold! Spanish Conquistadores were awed that even our DOORS ARE LINED WITH GOLD!

  • @botlok memories of the old times, the time when the philippines is still a very rich kingdom right because there are different tribes occupying the islands who also help the spaniards, americans, british, french, chinese and japanese to explore the nation or to have trade(I'm talking before the world wars is fought) I think we are the only asians who contact with both westerners and asian civilizations.

  • It is insightful to understand that these same tools are being applied to Iraq now, brainwasing of generations, but is ineffective because of the internet and satellite news, or cellphones with video.

So, why take the Philippines? A lot of reasons, like The Phils is America's doorway to Asia [and China] then. But after WW2, they got Japan, which is nearer.

  • well i think the real philippine independence is november 22,1992.Thats when the two u.s. military bases pulled out from philippines.

  • July 4, 1946

  • Spaniards were in the Philippines for 300 years, and they didn't do jack shit! America was a noble and generous conqueror who taught us democracy (yes it's messy) and the english language (Philippines - 3rd largest english speaking country in the world). They did what they could to get the country off the ground; so now we must learn to run it!

  • Spaniards, English, Spaniards (again), Americans, Japanese, Americans (again), American imperialism, American Interests in the Pacific Rim, American Massacre of Innocent Tausugs, American bases, American rapist-sailors.... Hey, they keep coming back coz they like to abuse our beloved Inang Bayan! Heneral Emilio Aguilnaldo declared JUNE 12, 1898 as Independence Day from all foreign invaders. Say July 4th again and I will call you Amerikano!

  • Actually you're right man; the americans did commit atrocities; it is unfortunate that the later generations of Americans who ruled the Phils. after the original conquerors were stained with this horrible sin; despite their initial brutality, their rule was at least tolerable (as compared to Japan in Korea, or the British in India).

  • Amen! Preach on uncle tom, preach on!

  • @amartinjoe yes your right, we don't need to be dependent, i have read some information that in some cases in the spanish era that there are filipinos who have been in the line of being a colonists (who have help spain, portugal, france and in some case the british to conquer some kingdom in south-east asia specially the kingdom of vietnam, cambodia and some parts of indonesia) This could be the reason why some of our neighbor nations are angry to us.

  • Yeah, it's incomplete, the part when the Philippine flag is raised isn't here. Anyone know where I can find a video of the ceremony?

  • Hi! I also found the same video in Howstuffworks video. It's much clearer than this one, but still incomplete. I want to see the portion when American flag was lowered. Grandpa, who was only 17 years old in 1946 said that much Filipinos cried and rain poured down, when US flag was lowered ans Philippine flag was raised. Can someone help me to find that portion?

  • If your implying that they cried because the US flag is being replaced by the Philippine Flag, your mistaken my friend. Those are tears of joys as we the Filipino people are now in charge of our own destiny. I admit it has been a quite a ride so far after 60+ years but we were able to preserve what's left of our Asiatic culture after 450 years of European rule.

  • My friend, freedom is nothing if majority of Filipinos are now living in poverty, low class education & corrupt government. Some people are blaming the US that they neglected its responsibility to the Phils after WWII, especially the war veterans. Just to give you some sort of history, US wanted to pospone the July 4, 1946 Phil independence proclamation because they wanted the Phils to bring back its original glory as American colony after the war. Filipino politicians resisted because*******
