@EmmaRose473 Jeff Beck is one of the best guitarist of all world and Rod's voice.. i don't have word to describe her.. I love them too, hahahahaha, and Truth is the best album from 68'.. This song, a 85' cover of a 65' soul music is fantastic! Thank you for watch this video!
god i love this song, what perfect combo of jeff beck and the voice of rod Stewart. I played this at my church as a christian song. man perfect song and video
Let's not forget the Catholics. It seems the last prejudice in the world is against the Church Our Lord, Jesus Christ, found 2000 years ago...If you think I'll tolerate it-you're wrong...Dan O'Niallain
@oldiesbutgoodies67 "the Lord Jesus Christ" DID NOT 'FOUND' ANYTHING! HE QUESTIONED HIS OWN RELIGION (JUDAISM) AND HE WOULD QUESTION CHRISTIANITY , YES, EVEN THE CATHOLICS, SINCE CHRISTIANITY HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH JESUS, THE MAN WHO WALKED THIS EARTH!!
The part where Stewart and Beck meet at the station is one of the all time great campy moments in music video history and sometimes I rewatch the video just for that scene.
VERY FEW YOUNG PEOPLE HAVE MUCH OF A SOUL , IF ANY, SO DON'T EXPECT MUSIC LIKE THIS TO BE COMING OUT TO SOON!!! but theres always HOPE!!!! mikedcannon v.n. vet 69-71
I love the generosity that Rod Stewrt and Jeff Beck shared for this Gospel Classic. I wish that all Rock and Rollers whose solo careers have gone more successfully to give great musicians like Jeff Beck work. So, they can help put their Grandchildren through College etc...Dan O'Niallain
it is pure genius for both artists to cover this song and make it into their own. God bless the child who has his own. Jeff and Rod shined like GOLD in this duet. True GODS!! WHERE DID THE MUSIC GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I worked security for this video shoot. The buliding was located in the city of Port Hueneme, Ca.It was the Longshoemans hall located at the entrance of the port. the train was provided by the Ventura railroad. The other video shots were in Ventura county. I was a Police officer for the city of Port Hueneme, Ca. The year was 1985 I think.
THis is my 2nd favorite Jeff Beck song ever. He can say in ONE bent whole-note what it takes other guitarists a whole measure full of 16th-notes to say. (My 1ST favorite is "Definitely Maybe")
One of the all time great guitar solos!!!!!!!!!!! No pyrotechnical displays, shredding or excessive tapping just sheer emotional expression and total originality. If more young guitarists were inspired by people like Beck we might have some better quality music. Thanks for posting and greatest respect to Jeff Beck's phenomenal talent!!!
I couldn't have been more blessed and more thankful for everything I have in my life right now :) Love, giving as much as you possibly can and keeping your heart open are the keys to a happy life...Now that I have found that all I can say is...Thank you and I'm getting ready...for the train of change and love :) Come and join me!
Rod Stewart and Jeff Beck knew even in the 80's that the "100 Year Persecution of the Catholic Church, and then all of Christendom, by lucifer that Pope Saint Leo XIII saw in his Vision of 1884 began in 1914 with World War I and 1917 with the Bolshevik/Communist Revolution and that the 100 Years will end this decade between 2014 and 2017 with what the Blessed Virgin Mary calls the "Divine Chastisement" followed by the Immaculate Heart of Mary Triumphant...Dan O'Niallain
WILL the REAL Jeff Beck and Rod Stewart PLEASE stand up? They did exactly that in this awesome tribute to Curtis Mayfield. This is my favorite video of all time, covered by my favorite singer for almost 40 years and counting, and my favorite guitar player, too. Both together and apart, these two guys were enormously important in the evolution of rock and roll music, and deserve all the respect and thanks possible for dedicating their lives to something that gives so much pleasure to so many<3
Love the railroad scenes...like trains, this song is powerful and timeless. Alot of people don't know that Rod Stewart is a very active model railroader too!
@saumyab44 it is about salvation. you dont need a ticket or luggage you just get on board. it is a song about religion and faith and your love of Christ
LIke the Cast of "Jesus of Nazareth" in 1976, Rod Stewart and Jeff Beck did something to "Save Souls", including their own, with this Pop/Rock Gospel Classic..."Have Pity on Those whose Chances are Thinner..." The Legendary, Dan O'Niallain, Grafton, Ma.
A song written in 1965, Curtis Mayfield & the Impressions. WOW!!! What timeless masterpiece.Rod's vocals bring this song to life.Jeff's guitar playing adds soul and body. Just a super video.
It's a classic gospel hymn, much or less ready even before Mr Mayfield's wonderful creation. John Mayer did a good commercial job, I wouldn't call it stealing a song.
George Harrison stole My Sweet Lord and blablabla...

You gotta love that haunting echo of Jeff Beck's guitar! Man this is awesome to see these two old friends together again in this video. Thank god for Rock n Roll!!
At least Rod Stewart and Jeff Beck realized that their life's work has to start guiding people to Our Lord Jesus Christ and His Commandments or they will be damned if their songs and music does not...Dan O'Nealon
@swordofconstantine1 (sigh).... Ladies and gentlemen, here comes the usual religious threat.... and what if they had wanted to "guiding people" (what a strange idea here by the way !) to Shiva, Krishna, The Flying Spaghetti Monster or the Invisible Red Dragon living in my cellar ? Shoud they have been damned ? What a horrible view on people it is ! Nice song, though. Not fantastic lke the original Jeff Beck Group but still nice to have those two great guys doing stuff together.
@swordofconstantine1 Holy crap im tired of religous freaks. There is an amazing drummer that lives by me and he cant play the music he wants because he parents wont let him. Just chill out and enjoy the music.
Someone needs to explain to me why so many guitar players think that you have to play very fast to play well? It's still about what you play no how fast you play it.
Just now watching an interview with Stewart on CNN's "Headline News" that caused me to think of this video; it is quite nostalgic to find it here, taking me back to my grad school days. It has been a great many years since last seeing this, and it still delivers. Stewart has had - and continues to have - a truly remarkable musical career.
What happened to VH1? Back in the 80's and early 90's all they ever did was play music and the music was awesome. Now whenever I check my tvguide all they have are stupid reality shows on VH1. It just makes me sick.
Rod Stewart and Jeff Beck did the equivalent of the Cast of "Jesus of Nazareth" to insure their Salvation upon their deaths. These "Old Timers" should teach the people in Rock and Roll and Hollywood that their songs and films have to lead people to Our Lord and His Commandments. Dan O'Niallain, Grafton, Ma.
@oniallain1965 , If you weren't so busy spamming your bible cliche's right here on YT....you'd hear that it's God talking, through Jeff 's heavenly guitar playing.
GreensnHamhocks, I know what you mean. I remember when MTV used to play rock music, some of which was classically inspired (Yngwie, Yes, Kansas, Rainbow, Europe, etc.). Now they mostly play rap "music." I guess we all miss the good old days...

This is the worst version of this song ever. This song is SOUL an African American genre, but this video is mainly white people and no black folks. Its lost its original feeling of authentic black music. weak :(
If you see Rod Stewart wearting 1 of Jim Morrison's size 101/2 low cut boots in a concert, you know Rod is going to "Get Happy Feet on Stage like Steve Martin in "The Jerk..." Dan O'Niallain, Grafton, Ma.
A lot of people don't realize the legend in this video that Rod Stewart is wearing 1 of Jim Morrison's 13 pairs of boots during his rock and roll career. Dan O'Niallain, Grafton, Ma.
I love the rare and ever-valueable- reference to Catholic Rock and Roll-the next big thing because it's not protestant. . .It's new... This coming garage band from the " 'ole garage'" has a lead singer that will be what Jim Morrison could have been and Jeff Beck and even Rod Stewart-not bad...Dan O'Niallain, Grafton, Ma.
OK, This is the story that I heard: I heard that Jeff Beck played for "scale" during the early years with Rod Stewart and then in turn offered Rod "scale" to sing lead for this song.
@Sofus99 80's rock heads, lol. Who are you to say it was lost on "Rock Heads."? Blanket statements anyone?? Most songwriters let people interpret the meaning of a song for themselves. I know what Curtis was singing about, but I am sure he was cool about it if it inspired someone else for an entirely different reason. Songwritiers are cool like that. So yeah Jeff Beck and Rod Stewart did Curtis proud with this version of his song and how the interpreted it.
@kevinocooldaddy I disagree ...this song had a message to black people in the 60s, not 80s rockheads who probably had no concern for the black struggle
@Lashid4u the message isnt just for black people, its universal. LIFE is a struggle and im sure Curtis would agree! "you dont need no ticket you just get on board"!!

Even 25 years later, I am flabbergasted this song didn't make the top 40. What a song.

@kevinocooldaddy Completely agree with you.
missphyllislevine 1 year ago 2
@kevinocooldaddy I disagree ...this song had a message to black people in the 60s, not 80s rockheads who probably had no concern for the black struggle
Lashid4u 1 year ago
@Lashid4u the message isnt just for black people, its universal. LIFE is a struggle and im sure Curtis would agree! "you dont need no ticket you just get on board"!!
