  • Saw them perform this at Bonds in Manhattan in 1981, incredible....show opened with Alan Ginsburg followed by Grand Master Flash and then the Clash. They played there for 18 straight nights and it was awesome....Long live Joe Strummer....

  • This whole album kicks ass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Happy Birthday Joe Strummer (August 21) RIP

  • I would listen to this at 5am on my way to baja hoping there would be some bomb sets in the surf

  • Rock the province!!

  • I don't know what your fighting over but you do realise communism works?

It's not bad only the fascist-like communism is "bad" Take the USSR for instants that wasn't real communism because there were to many dictators.

  • @btcc11 communism only works on paper

  • @btcc11how many commy countriesworked though? Communist China didnt. N.Korea today is commy and look at it closed off from the rest of the world, no mobile phones, no internet etc. N.Vietnam was communist and the leaders caused suicide deaths in the country.my point is whenever you have communism u get corruption because its so easy to dictate. not that other partys are much better but they get a good economy. The USSR was very poor because of communism. Communism cant work ecause of corruption

  • @silentsniper125

"Communism can't work because of corruption."

Here let me help you along:

Communism can't work because of capitalism.

  • @catbuffalo

    ..... ok then?

  • @silentsniper125

At the time US was rich just because debt taken from bank, are you complete moron? All the money US have used for wars and shit and for being 'healthy' is debt, taken from bank. Now we have to pay. USSR went to space withotu debt money.

  • @Scatmanfi

but atleast USA had an economy to repay the money they took out while USSR had no money coming in because the way the country was run

  • @silentsniper125

haha us economy is now coming down in 20 years, it cannot be run this way anymore, debt is too big 45000 dollars per citizen. USSR had no debt to anyone so it didnt have to pay, hospitals, education and social security was all free.

  • @Scatmanfi the USSR collapsed and the US still stands... and the US has been in a depression before they know how to handle a recession. There is a reason people eventually revolt against communism... Economy only works with debt, thats why the USSR fell...

  • @dukenukem4lifeyo123

It did last for over 70 years, it could have been lasted for much longer without Gorbachevs traitorious politics, now today Russia is corrupted piece of shit led by oligarks and mafia, people wants USSR back there.

There direct link to wealthiness of capitalist world countries and poorness of the third world. US havent done any good past 60 years, after Franklin D. Roosevelt's death. Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, South-America, africa, middle-east, Cuba. Millions of people died.

  • @Scatmanfi "it could have been lasted for much longer..." I wasted my time with someone that said "it could have been lasted" LOL!!!!!! And debt keeps the economy going or else there would be no economy. And do you think countries like Cuba and North Korea are doing great? HELL TO THE NO!!!!!!

  • @dukenukem4lifeyo123

North Korea is not communist or socialist, it got person cultified juche ideology, Cuba is doing well when you realise that trade embargo has lasted for 60 years.

  • :yuno: y u no load the video

  • :yuno: y u no load the video

  • I'm spanish and i've heard all about the Civil War.I think they mean the two parts of the war in that phrase " they sang the red flag (the republicans) they wore the black one (fascist in Spain and Italy used to wear a black shirt in 1939)

  • I will always envy my Dad as he has seen the Clash.

  • oh mi corazon

  • COSTA RICA!!

  • Grandes The Clash!!!

  • carnt believe joe gone fuck me. rip man love ya forever

  • Hey all! Why have all these bands become so big while war is going on? That is because all the people that are suppose to listen to the big leaders, listen instead to their idols. Because no1 really likes the war. And those band are like The Clash and The Beatles. I think that is why. But on the other side, they really are amazing!

  • Comment removed

  • Otherwise, this song is a killer track off of London Calling. The Clash are monumental.

  • @VVilliam360 you obviously don't love everyone is you're saying "fuck GG Allin, Kurt Cobain, Sturgeon Crack & any other douche bag who can't handle life so they use drugs." You're a closed-minded prick. Fuckyourself.

  • Viva la lucha de la CNT!!

    Viva la República utópica autogestionada!!

    Utopy stilll exists

Fuck Stalin Fuck Hitler Fuck Franco

  • yo te quero

    hola corazon

  • yo te quero

  • Sorry for the typo.

  • Who else thinks the Clash are better than the pistols and the ramones?

DISCLAIMER noi disrepect intended i like both those other bands.

  • I LIKE THIS COVER TOO... IT'S NOT AS GOOD AS THE ORIGINALVERSION BUT IT SOUNDS GOOD... GREETINGS FROM MEXICO!!!

    /watch?v=EladUhVSJzU

  • SPANISH BOMBS YO TE QUIERO INFINITO...

  • The "Black Flag" referenced in the song is the flag of anarchy, not fascism. Jasandia is correct that the concept of communism promoted by those who fought in Spain is not the same as Stalinism, which merely used the labels as a front for dictatorship.

In the Spanish Civil War, the communists/anarchists were fighting against the brutal dictatorship of Franco. Regardless of their political creed, any who dared to stand up against such oppression in the name of better ideals should be honored.

  • @RagnarXIV You're incorrect. It was the black flags (Franco) that was fighting against the Republic.....Per wikipedia " It began after a military rebellion by a group of conservative generals led by Francisco Franco against the established Government of the Second Spanish Republic,..."

It's a lost cause. No more replies from me.

Youth, you're going to get the future you deserve.

  • @iceman030575 I think you are misinterpreting the words - The song's lyrics are "The freedom fighters died upon the hill/ They sang the red flag, They wore the black one." It is not associating the black flag with Franco, but with the "freedom fighters", as the anarchists (the Black Flag has been an anarchist symbol since the 1880s) fought on the side of the communists (the Red Flag) and the Republicans during the war, all opposed to Franco.

  • @iceman030575 From your comments, you also appear to be under the impression from your comments that Franco's fascism is somehow preferable to communism. Personally, I'd rather take my chances with the communists (It is also worth mentioning that communism and socialism are not synonymous).

  • @RagnarXIV They were originally synonymous, and still were in the USSR. Also, communism has never been put into a practice on a large scale. Most "Communist Countries" are socialist, semi-fascist dictatorships, like the USSR and China

  • @hiyapoeple1 Agree with your main point but 'semi-fascist'? Maybe 'State capitalist' would be more appropriate?

  • Hilarious! I wrote on another Spanish bomb posting 2 years ago that socialism/communism will never work. I wrote that their lives will only get worse the more socialist policies are put into place.

Was I right? By the way all you young, impressionable people out there, actors don't know more than anyone else. Listening to drug addicted actors and musicians just shows your ignorance. I hope you wake up before it's too late.

  • @iceman030575 Do you not think its ignorant to just label actors and musicians as drug addicts and completely make there opinions null and void because of their career choice?

  • @DavidMolloy91 Depends what there on, Opiots & Methadones, absolutley. Fuck GG Allin, Kurt Cobain, Sturgeon Crack, & any other douche bag who can't handle life so they use drugs, but still feel they have the right to preach to little kids about shit, fuck them & there fucked up views, not everything in this world is horrible. I love everyone, & that's what you should teach children not hate.

  • @VVilliam360 HAHAHA, cant believe,.. Stza in the same sentence.

  • @DavidMolloy91 Having opinions is fine. However, using their stardom to try to influence and persuade people to their way of thinking is not OK. You really have to look into these actors, musicians, etc backgrounds.

All it takes is for an actor to make a movie where they play an intelligent scientist, and people will start to associate intelligence with that actor. But maybe that's the gullible people's fault.

  • Spanish Bombs without the scratches of the original LP pressings problems! I prefer my original copy with the same old jumps that were a wide problem with the original release, plus the crackles, hisses and pops that came with it also.

I asked a Spanish linguist (who spoke or knew the different Spanish languages) what that 'Spanish' part said, and she thought it was just gobbledegook. I like it, all us English speakers thinking we were singing something deep about the Spanish civil war lol.

  • Spanish bombs; yo te quiero infinito

Yo te quiero, oh mi corazón

Spanish bombs; I love you infinite

I love you, oh my sweetheart

I assure you, I'm Spanish and I think this song is pretty touching and deep for all those who died in the name of freedom here

  • @Jasandia At last, someone who can tell me what it says, thank you.

We have a community of Spanish people in my area who originally fled Franco, we have wall muruals etc to the war saluting the fighters sacrifice, my best friends grandad fought there as well with the Anarchist faction, as did my mums friends dad.

Its not meaningless here either, its part of the local community.

    And an insperation.

Oh, and G.Orwell came to live here as well after leaving the I.B and Spain.

    Thanks again.

  • my grandfather fought with the Communist faction, but they were on the same boat, even though in different parts of it. it's impressive how many came to fight here dispite their nationality, it's inspiring, and of course we'll always have Orwell's Homage to Catalonia. you are welcome!

  • @dortyhoor Your welcome, same back to you, (Orwell lived round here as well funny enough, theres a plaque outside his house).

Your always welcome round west London.

  • @Jasandia Freedom? Are you talking about the black flags or the red ones? Neither one had anything to do with freedom. Facism or communism. Where is freedom in that?

  • red ones. communism is not the same than stalinism, which I agree is pretty similar to fascism. in spain the communist were suportive to the republic and democracy, so I speak about my own country history, not the USRR dictatorship

  • @Jasandia How's are those socialist policies working for Spain now? You need to read Property and Plunder by Frederic Bastiat. People will plunder over work. With socialism it's state sponsered plunder. Pretty soon every ones to plunder instead of work.

  • hahahaha socialist policies in spain?? I don't know which meassures you are reafering to but the fact that the ruling purty calls itself "socialist" does not mean that their policies are socialit. in fact they are neo-liberal because of the markets appealings: increasing working life, decreasing social spend, cheaper firing... socialist?? you are the one who needs to read, instead of coming here to tell me the one book that you thing would change everyones mind cause it did to yours

  • @Jasandia Freedom? I weep for the future. It was the communists against the facists. Where does "died in the name of freedom" come from?

  • hahaha it was not!! man, I keep hearing that over and over. did you know that onle 16 congressman of 500 where communist when the war started? communist where the one who fought more and best for the republic, in spite of their good or bad ideals, that's a fact. that made them popular. but also a fact is that each country has an ideosincracy and reducing our war to that reflects how little you know about it. the republic was a real democracy, franco wasn't. FREEDOM

  • One of my faves. Joe always wrote about the oppressed, the patirots. Mick's songs all had "I" and "me" in them ! And nobody sounded as good as the two of them singing and playing together.

  • @DrJLo08 patriots* ?

  • Q buenaaa

  • Spanish bombs: Rock the party!

  • spanish bombs de andalucia spanish bombs yo te quiero i co nito

, yo te quiero , ooh mi corazon , bueno eso es lo que oigo

  • song makes me feel like it would be good in stand by me

  • My favorite Clash song right here

  • Trenches full of poets, the ragged army, fixing bayonets to fight the other line.

  • RIP Joe Strummer, still can't believe he's gone.

  • @jon221998 me too

  • Viva la República!!!

  • Spain killed the finest poet of the 20th century, what heathens.

  • Spain killed the finest poet of the 20th century, what heathens.

  • The greatest Clash song of all time.

  • @Anu291 Amen brother. I've thought that ever since I first heard it.

  • viva lorca

  • Who cares if The Clash didn't have the traditional "punk" sound? The Clash are beyond the quality of any punk band (Well, they're tied with The Ramones) anyways...

  • love this soooooooooooong♥

  • I wish Joe and Mick could have gotten along

  • I havent heard this song since i was a kid and I loved it...I'm about to turn 30 and this just became my new favorite song!....

  • No other band ever labelled "punk" can touch the Clash, this shit is so fucking real.

  • @NewYorkFlavour You mean match or beat their skills you might be right i reckon with some of the sex pistols and ramones best songs challenge clash but maybe just maybe a new age of punk will emerge when the world is in the right mood when it was when the world spat out ramones and pistols and a even greater punk band will rise and make some great songs if only people if only

  • @UTFRG I mean like, they were so flexible. With Sex Pistols, they have one sound, and it's a great sound, but with Clash, they are covering six genres of music an album.

  • andalucia ala mierda

  • its the fucking best video i've ever seen of claSH YOU FUCKERS DONT FUCKI WITH THIS VIDEO CUZ ITS DA SHIT!!!! SUCK MY COCK YOU ASSHOLES!! CLASH RULES!!!

  • Long live CNT-FAI.. long live ANARCHISM!

  • esta mejor la version de tijuana no.

  • Do y'all remember the "Give 'em enough robe" track? I think it's a marvelous one!

  • Second favorite track off of "London Calling", after "The Clampdown". Great song, amazing album.

  • One of their very finest songs, for sure.

  • I absolutely love this song. In my opinion the best song of London Calling, next to Lost in the supermarket. But I love everything. <333

  • @Lariekoekje my two favorite songs off the album too.

  • oh mi corazon, oh mi corazon !!!!!!Joe for ever!!!

  • @caljan1 ok

  • temón !!!!

  • I love how the song is actually a fucking story!

  • what language is this??

  • @H0U5T0N3TX this is spanisinghis the Joe ok.

  • the soviets were the worst mudrerers

  • The civil war started in 1936 when republicans kill calvo sotelo, the republic started in 1931, with 3 goberments 2republicans(azaña) and 1 nacional(lerroux), and the country was divided,so ........after they suck a dictator called primo de rivera(1921-1928), who suck too in 1921 the king Alfonso XIII

  • republicanos contra nacionales , la guerra la ganaron los nacionales, como tiene que ser a Civil War divides countrys,

and thast happened in my country SPAIN, ESPAÑA,

    WAR IS ALWAYS A CRAP

  • uhh yeaa... my history teacher got me into the clash haha

  • Your history teacher is a wise man.

  • I'm Spanish too and Strummer's version of the Spanish Civil War is unrealistic and romanticized. The Republic was a mirage, it was dead from the minute the Republican police murdered the opposition leader. The USA and England supported Franco because they thought he was the lesser evil compared to Stalin, which in the end proved true.

  • Read for whom the bell tolls Earnest H

  • Read "Homage to Catalonia" by George Orwell.

Also "The Grand Camouflage", and "The Spanish Civil War: Revolution and Counter-revolution", by Burnett Bolloten, or "The Collapse of the Spanish Republic" by Stanley G. Payne.

  • I completely agree with you, I also read a book by Stanley G. Payne about Spanish history and he showed the facts in a more realistic way. Besides Lorca wasn't the only writer who died in the Civil War, also right-wing writers such as Ramiro de Maeztu died.

  • hahahaha stanley payne?¿ realistic? woau! that's the best source you can read if you want to know. ni siquiera deberia ser historiador, menso mal k el 99% de historiadores están en desacuerdo con él

  • The USA and England supported Franco because it was in their interests, not in the interests of the Spanish people, I think we all can agree on that much.

  • I agree but it was not the USA and England that supported Franco. It was Nazi Germany, Portugal, and Italy. The Republican had support from Russia, Meixco and I know that Paraguay sent captured Bolivian Machine guns from the Chaco War, to the Republicans. My great grand father fought in the war but he would never talk about which side he was on. He would only talk about his time in the French Army during WW1.

  • @4head11 well in a way it was, because the French government wanted to send troops to support the Republic, but were prevented by pressure mainly from the British government.

  • @Redstar226 Well Chruchill was a bit of a Fascist anyways but I don't think it would had matter much if they did sent supports for Republic. Don't forget, Russia did send troops, and equpiment even know some people would say that they never did.

  • @4head11 True, but I doubt that the Spanish Fascist rebellion would have been any match for a battle hardened, well equipped French contingent. Which the French did want to send, actual troops under Goverment control, not the weapons and 'advisors' sent by the Soviets.

It would also be fair to say that with a socialist base in Europe, WW2 might have gone a whole lot differently.

  • @Redstar226 @Redstar226 I don't know. I think that Italy would be all up in arms and more than willing to push more troops, weapons, and equipment into Spain to counter any moves the French would had made and I see Portugal doing the same. As far as Germany, I don't think they would had sent anymore than the Condor legion. Then again, alot of things may not had happen if the French did send troops. Such as the Soviet's attack on Finland or even their battles with the Japanese.

  • @4head11

they only sold weapons to the republic

  • @4head11

Why didn't those butthead Russians send support troops to the Warsaw Uprising in a timely manner, when they needed them the most, but were instead horribly betrayed?

Answer: So they could screw-up Poland for themselves with a puppet Soviet government for decades. Stalin cunningly waited until the Nazi's completely razed the city. The rest is history.

  • @glaetze Oh, Stalin knew excalty what he was doing when he did not send support. Had he did, the send it . Alot of people could had been save. Speaking of which, I feel sorry for those Polish soldiers that fought along side the British and French, having to come home and find that Stalin had taken Hitler's place in Poland.

  • @4head11

    Exactly!

  • Every version of every war is romanticised. I'm American, and I constantly hear about the North was righteous, how we defeated the evil Germans (twice), and how we held back the evil of communism. History books are written by the people in power. My history professor keeps emphasizing how you need to keep the bias of the writer in mind.

  • Yeah but in spain there was a fascist dictator and he had the power for 30 years.....can u get it? 30 years and ANYBODY did ANYTHING this is so so surrealistic u.u'

  • E.T.A.,M.I.L.,F.R.A.P.,G.A.R.I.,The Spanish Guerrilla, the thousands of student riots...are just a few examples of the national resistance against franquist regime...so read and look into the things you tak about,my ignorant friend!

  • I was talking about exterior help

  • ok,sorry then

  • @johnandhisdog

"I'm American, and I constantly hear about the North was righteous"

South shot first. And if you wanna say that the war wasn't about slavery, google "Mississippi articles of secession". Or any of them! They all bitch and moan about how the yankees are trying to end slavery. Georgia's mentions slavery 35 times.

Slavery was their stated reason for seceding. Anything else is revisionist history, it's understandable why people are ashamed of the truth but that's no excuse for lies.

  • haahhahxD do you know what made the republic in a few years? no I think u dont know it, and how can you glorify Franco? youre not right TT

  • You re a twat stupid arshole

  • Ummmm, there English isn't that great, either. So what, if you weren't alive around 1980, then you have no idea how this album just exploded on the music scene. It was like the Clash just kicked the door down from the 70s and said, "Here we are 80s." Even though they were around in the late 70s, I don't recall hearing them to London Calling and then I listened to them for 4 or 5 years. Saw them live twice and they kicked ass. This is my favorite song by them.

  • ..then some guys from the moon came and made this song!

  • I'm Spanish, and I don't care about their pronunciation, because I think it's more important the idea which they try to show to the people than the way they sing. I love the reference to Federico Garcia Lorca, one of our best poets, and the tribute to the republican party.

    I hope you'll understand my English =)

  • WWII could have been stopped right then, in 1936, by selling Spain arms, but big biz and the church loved the Fascists and The Nazis and prevented the western democracies from helping until it was too late.

  • The Nazis and the Fascists use Spain to prove their new arms, such as the Panzers. But also the Soviet Union also took part in the conflict helping the 2nd Spanish Republic.

The WWII couldn´t have been prevented by selling arms to Spain...

  • i feel that it could have, companies from the USA were selling to Hitler, Franco and Mussolini at that time, Ford, GM, DuPont and Texaco in particular, also Astor gun Company was making pistols for Franco. If the USA government had sold arms to the republic and enforced it's treaty the republic wouldn't have needed to ask the USSR for weapons. Stalin didn't just show up, he was asked by the republic after England, France and USA had refused to sell Spain arms.

  • USA didn't help de 2nd Spanish Republic because it was at most comunist and anarky

  • too far to the left yes, there were few communists in spain then, it wasn't a popular idea. many more now

  • no, im spanish and i know, in those days,

you were either comunist, anarchist or fascist.

That's why spanish civil war started.

  • You're absolutely right. In fact, FDR later told the American ambassador to Spain (who was in favor of the Republicans and anti-Fascist) that he made a big mistake in not supporting the Republicans.

  • lol!! theclashhh XD

  • the song is awesome and also the chash

but , i think they oughta improve their spanish pronunciation xD

  • You 're rigth, they pronounciation is horrible :s

  • pero piensalo, eso le da cierto encanto ;)

  • Now This real Punk Music hells yea The Clash are the greatest band love this song Love the albums

  • Viva la CNT.
