Ho scoperto da poco questo film che dire è di una tragicità emozionante. Un mondo di cinismo, arroganza e allo stesso tempo tanta dignità. L'amore di un cane può riconciliare un vecchio disperato a vivere. Il continuare a vivere nonostante tutto. Quanto ci insegna questo film!

I love this ending! It tears me up everytime...the old man realizes if anything life is worth living for this little dog. The way the dog looks at him like "why did you do that?" "Whos gonna take care of me and play with me?" In every life, theres someone or something that needs us,even if we dont know it or realize it. Such a simple and beautiful movie.

@didacus61 He had a very expressive way of signalling his feelings with just his eyes. His bearing and manner are always so dignified, but his eyes let us see his misery and fear. The contrast is just perfect for the role of an impoverished elderly gentleman trying to cling to respectability.

How I wish he had made more movies.

Quando la sociatà non è in grado di preservare gli individui che la compongono e toglie loro, con la sua indifferenza e con i suo "darwinismo sociale", anche la dignità di una vita decorosa, allora tale società, e noi tutti con essa, ha fallito miseramente quelli che sono i suoi obiettivi. Umberto D.: un capolavoro di De Sica. Per svista anzi, per meglio dire, con forti dubbi che la dimenticanza della sua esistenza e relativa messa in onda, sia dovuta al suo "contenuto" da chi conta nella sala dei bottoni della tv della questua o quella dello spot ossessivo. Che faccia "paura" il mostrare una realtà sempre più vicina a quella descritta dal Maestro decenni d'anni fa?. Ed allora: avanti, spendere,consumare e meno pessimismo!!!

I love this film. It must be one of the best drama movie. I saw it 4 or 5 years ago but unfortunately the disc was bad at last scene, so I always wonder about Umberto's destiny. Now I can relax my mind. Thank you for posting this.
