  • PINGASSSSSSSS!

  • Must be like musicians heaven...gettin up and havin the beatles and stones singin backup!!!! Also havin the ability to sound like howlin wolf, while lookin like a puckish english schoolboy!

  • PINGAS.

  • @nidia587

  • Very good "Negro" impersonation by Mr. Baldry. The effeminate bit is pretty interesting, too. This is the first time I ever heard Long John Baldry sing, but I had heard OF him for many, many years. Not impressed at all.

  • @squanto2 Long John Baldry was openly gay. He is a legend in many ways and in no way is an imitation of a 'Negro' singer.

  • What a sexy man! Can get lost in those eyes & that voice!!

  • Rest his soul.

    And he did have soul.

  • What stage presence and charisma! And the Beatles are having a blast.

  • Ah, LJB ... R.I.P. Old Boy .. You did good and your music will never die.

  • born on my birthday! me and long john rock the capricorns!

  • AIN'T THAT A MAN!!!

  • NO SHIT? Long John Baldry, the man who voiced Dr. Robotnik, the man who invented PINGAS did music with the Beatles?? Damn Baldry your my hero!!

  • PINGAS

  • Man i wish i could sing like good ol long john but my sister inherited my dads voice all i got was his height hes 6 feet 1 im 6 foot 4

  • The Beatles were his backing vocalists. Scream.

  • he was a right Poofta

  • and to think this is the man that would go on many moons later to voice over dr robotnik and become YTP lore,

never saw this part of the speacial, only the shasksphere sketch which is timeless

  • recorded April 28, 1964

  • Woah! This is amazing! I'm guessing that this was performed sometime around 1962-1964.

  • Daaaamn!!! That's a fine video of Long John... wow!! I've been a fan for decades but haven't seen that one. Don't lay no Boogie Woogie!!!

  • Top Man

  • Favorited by Austin Powers!

  • AWESOME

  • what a voice.....as black as the ace of spades!

  • who'se the tick tock rubber legged tenor sax guy?

  • I've been reviewing a lot of material from the Billboard charts. Prior to 1955 pretty much everything white sucked donkey dicks. And the last 20 years ain't been very impressive either.

  • wow to think this was one of the hecklers who were heckling the Beatles in that Shakespeare play they did i wonder what the story was of that

  • @TehLAWL1 That was part of the skit. Otherwise why do you think they had the camera aimed at Baldry just as he "heckled" the guys?

  • Long HJohn Baldry is the real deal! Great stuff!

  • Priceless..This isn't "British Blues" Just Top of the pops...Typical TV media stuff..no longer than 3mins air time..

  • All those young white Americans in the 1960's didn't know what blues was. It was only white British bands which made them aware of it. a lot of well known american blues artists were living in povery until the Stones, Animals and others covered them and they got the royalties from their records, which white American producers had cheated them out of. See what BB King says the difference was after Eric Clapton mentioned his name in a TV interview. And BB thought that Peter Green was the best.

  • @ronwhycherly I saw Buddy Guy perform in February. During his show he gave a short lesson on blues history. When he mentioned the boys from England hearing blues and doing their own version, someone in the audience yelled "they fucked it up!". Buddy corrected him: "They didn't mess it up, they let you know who we were!"

  • great footage, thanks for this.

  • Muddy must have wanted to kill himself when white guys were getting famous singing stuff like this.

John had a great voice but the arrangement with the back up singers........HORRIFYING!

  • @EFISHANT If Muddy Waters was racist, perhaps he might have. Otherwise he probably just enjoyed the homage, the talent, and the fact his career was revived as a direct result of people like Long John Baldry and the Beatles.

  • My favorite blues singer.

There will never be another Long John Baldry.

  • RIP - LJB!!!

  • Man what a voice!

  • The Rolling Stones weren't involved in this show. It's the Beatles in the audience, plus the female vocal group The Vernons Girls on stage backing him on this. (The musical group is Sounds Incorporated).

  • Great old footage... really foreshadowed what a showman he was
