I love the imagery used in this film. Portraying how the initial subculture of skin heads was that of one devoted to music and a good time, not that of racism. In a similar sense to how the furry subculture used to be just about liking animals and is now about liking to have sex with people dressed like animals. It's really interesting how subcultures progress with the ages.

The problem is with this movie is that there are so many mistakes, people back then firstly didn't care if they were racist as being "racist" wasn't a big deal no one cared a wog was a wog end of, England is traditionally a White Christian country and so the values are to be expected/ respected.

This is one of my favourite scenes. Everyone just looks so fuckin cool and swarve, especially Milky with his trilby and coat at 0:37. This film is really good at illustrating that the original skinheads werent racist, and only later did the skinhead culture get divided into more niche subcultures like far right skinheads.

No young person had side burns like that in 83. That was the late 60's skinhead. Ben Sherman shirts were the 60s skinhead too. I dont remember anyone wearin a Ben Sherman shirt in those days. Fred Perry , Sta- Prest, copied Harringtons and docs yes. New Romantics had just about taken over in 83 anyway.

@TheMagnaOpera You're right that some skins got pulled into things like the National Front, but that happened befire the time period this film is set in. The mid to late 70s were the heyday for the NF's skinhead contingent, mostly as a result of heavy campaigning by the fascists on the football terraces. Most only joined for the fights. These in the film are post-1980 skins, influenced heavily by two-tone music and the mod revival. Racism was far less evident in kids of this era.

@Krizzbeatz The Skinhead culture was born out of love of Jamaican music. Ska,Rocksteady,Rudeboy and Reggae. It was that way until the late 70s then some elements got hijacked by the far right and there has been a stigma ever since unfortunately. This film does a fine job getting rid of that stigma (It does still have the racist side though). And there has been a bit of a revival going on here now. Hopefully the same will happen in the US.

It deals with different topics and the last episode is a bit hard to stomach but still good . The skins of 83 have grown up & left school, and there is one scene where they have a (slapstick) fight with the "casuals" - a style movement that came from English soccer fans going to Europe & coming back wearing Fila , Tachini & Kappa gear as well as US trainers etc. My fav is Kelly, she hot

It is an over simplification to say that early Skinheads were not racist. They came from working class places and would have had typical blue collar attitudes. Some were racist even if their musical tastes largely consisted of black music. Life is like that -complicated and illogical.
