  • Amazing composition!

  • A MASTERPIECE

    As usual for the Master

  • Parece que nada pode ser maior, brilhante, glorioso e empolgante!

Voa Wagner nas asas da liberdade!

  • Mendelssohn FTW !

  • I like this.

  • Also, he could never truly shake of that Rossinian element.

If you've ever heard Wagner's earliest opera, ''Remzi'', then you'll know that it was inspired by Rossini's masterpieces.

Lohengrin and Tannhauser are also heavily influenced by Rossini - when he wasn't borrowing off Mendelssohn and other German contemporaries' styles - as are the best segments of the ring cycle.

Gioachino Rossini was a class act, and was a big influence on all of the following operatic composers.

  • @BettingSupremo

before criticising wagner that much, you should try to spell the name of his first opera in the right way.it is called "Rienzi" not 'remzi'!

  • @raspi093

    He he !

Fair enough, I stand corrected, in fact, corrected by you:

    Rienzi rather than Remzi.

It was still Wagner's ''wannabe Rossini'' opera, that went down as bad as a fart in a crowded lift !

Now, let's talk about the Mendelssohn, Rossini wannabe...

Add a touch of Giuseppe Verdi, and we have someone who had no style of his own, and just wants ''fame'' from his leeching.

  • @BettingSupremo

really that sort of deduction can be used for any composer. no one no matter how esteemed is 100 percent original. all great composers have been influenced by those before them and their contemporaries while shifting the music to their own artistic direction. every opera composer has had flops. at the end of the day though no one can deny Wagner's greatness, even those that despised him.

  • How come Wagner ripped off Mendelssohn so much ?!

I like this chorus, in fact, it's one of Wagner's best ''pieces'', but he just uses Mendelssohnian melodies and harmonies with the addition of a 5x chorus and 10x brass section.

It's notable that his most ''iconic'' pieces have nothing to remember about them, other than some arias and choruses. Tristan and Isolde is a yawnfest, and you just sit through and wait for the best bits to come on in the 4 operas of the ring cycle !

  • @BettingSupremo Exactly which pieces of Mendelssohn does Wagner rip off?!?!?!

  • i would like to know what orchestra interprets, and who conducts this version. thank you.

  • @Reisertiel I would guess it's the Radio Symphony Orchestra and Chorus - Ljublijana with Marko Munih conducting.

perhaps Stravinsky91 will confirm. that's the Orchestra and Chorus in his Tannhauser - Pilgrams Chorous post and they sound similar in style.

  • @LeRinkRat AND it's also on the end credits which makes both YOU and esp ME a couple of FOOLS

  • Great performance for a great music!
