It's strings are dampened, meaning that it's preventing from resonating to its fullest (the nasal sound for organisms is caused by limiting the room of air that the vibrations caused by your larynx can resonate in), or you may just be confusing it with the pick up being near the bridge if you hear it just with the the electric.
