In 1.8, spiders can go through 1x1x1 entrances, rendering this trap useless. However, I've modified the trap to accommodate this.
I mined out a block in between the cacti, put a block two below me in the space in front of me, then put a sand, cactus, and glass. I also filled in the back wall, and put water in only one corner.
This forces the spiders to climb into the corner of the cacti, which increases the chance of items disappearing, but at least they don't crawl through any holes.
@sladikk Only cave spiders are 1x1, and they only spawn in abandoned mines. If you have a base close enough to a mine, it would be a quick target for spawn trapping, but I generally don't find it worth trapping mines unless other spider spawners are unavailable
@sladikk In this trap design, the spiders will be forced to climb up the walls to the cactus. There, they will be stuck until death, because cacti are thinner than standard 1m blocks
Thank you very much!! I tried this on a spider spawner that was near my house that is by a beach and it work so perfectly :) I am currently in the 1.8.1 version of minecraft.
@MrAleSSiiOo Thanks. Actually, I do have a friend that I had planned to eventually get an LP going with. However, I won't be going on with that until my 15-minute upload limit is removed; it's really restrictive.
@MrAleSSiiOo Thanks for the offer, but I'm basically willing to do duals with my friend because he lives close enough that we can actually get together for planning and because his sleep cycle (or lack thereof) is as useless as mine; it's more flexible and stable that way.
@lolwutloller As my description states, I use commands when testing and demonstrating; not while playing, which I only do legitimately. I assume that my audience also plays legitimately, and I never demonstrate anything which can't be built without mods or editors. In fact, I'm currently waiting for a recent bug to be fixed so that I can make another video, because it can't be legitimately built until then.
@bridgechase Yeah, but I definitely prefer McEdit for its compatibility and ease of use; I can deal with older maps or maps that I don't have the appropriate version for without updating, reverting, or waiting for mod updates.
wow nice m8 thx alot ;D

Will it work with other monsters?
iMP3dotme 6 months ago
@iMP3dotme Nah; this relies on spiders being 1 block in height and 2 wide
OhiraKyou 6 months ago
how do they really SPAWN? Monsters=? Animals=??
MrGameNL 6 months ago
@MrGameNL Google minecraft wiki spawn. That first result should explain everything about passive and aggressive mob spawning

how did u change the spwaner
Richard37363534 7 months ago
@Richard37363534 I use MCEdit for that; it's convenient, because you can simply right-click spawners to change their mob

Thank you very much, subbed ;)
Really good explanation and good method, love it.
Are you interested on doing dual commentary's on like custom maps? or maybe a total LP ?

@OhiraKyou there is also a spawner mod.
