the fame he finds that even though Fame can bring wealth it doesn't always

HBO started putting Neil on Cable in the 80's , You are right about the song but

the Live Show footage was all that they showed. I'm alive was released in 1979

On the Beautiful Noise Album. A superb collection of songs that kind of

chronicled the Early Music writing career of Neil Diamond. It seems though

that releases that followed were a touch blaise to the True Diamond Fan.

Neil spun his wheels until the Release of 12 Songs with the help of Rick Ruben

we got a chance to revisit his roots.

This song is on the dvd ND Greatest Hits Live (88). I bought it on amazon. It's a great show---I have to see it at least once a week. :-) There is a funny story about the inspiration for I'm Alive on the In My Lifetime liner notes. He was riding in Burt Bacharach's unreliable car thru a bad section of LA and he was so happy to arrive home ALIVE. :-) The photos are beautiful. Thanks for posting this.

Yes he recorded his 1st concert in 1976 and has been here numerous times since then from the 1990's onwards, been to his concerts every time he has come out here... you in Cincinnati?... near Great Lakes region I think

Neil has been here in Cincinnati several times. I went to all his concerts in the

70, 80, and 90s, but lately I don't like the stuff he is recording. As far as the great lakes region, Cincinnati is south of the Great Lakes. Lake Erie is a good five hour drive north. Been up there a few time. Cold up there in the winter, plenty of snow. We had about four inches here today and haven't seen the sun in over a week with temps in the teens for highs. I hate winter.

I love the lyrics- from start to finish.

Neil sings his original version slower than David Cook's rendition.The lyrics are therefore clearer.David only had one and a half minutes to do his live presentation on American Idol so he had to sing it faster. Both versions however are great- Thanks Neil Diamond. I also love your new CD Pretty Amazing Grace.

I have to disagree with the ppl who say "Cook's version is better" - with any song, you can revisit it years later and add twists and twangs to it, jazz it up a bit, etc., and of course the newer version will sound fresher. It's easy to improve on an already dynamite winning formula.

This song was Neil's last top 40 hit (which got up to #35 in 1983) - to me, this is one of my favorite Neil Diamond songs, and it should have gotten higher. It is found on his 1982 release "Heartlight" on Columbia Records.
