  • this movie showed what kids can do if they stand up people did not khnow what realy bad kid was back then that dick head cop sould had stayed of it cops think they got the power over all people if they started to put every one behind bars how our they going to get paid

  • It looks like I'm the guy that's gonna say that this movie is one of the key inflences that Nirvana used to bring out the rebellious side of the video, "It Smells Like Teen Spirit"....I too have watched it on the 'Max' before the Sundance and IFC channels on your cable screen...good performances...thanx Matt Dillon and Mr. Kaplan!!!. So all of you 1980's-retro-appreciation generation kids of today that love today's latest craze...need to see why (and where) this movie influences you.

  • best movie ever for our generation!

  • First saw this in mid 80's. Cinemax showed it everyday for a month. I'd watch it everyday with my brother and a couple of friends. I was really young and had forgotten about it. Then one day years later I hear the song, "Surrender" and this movie instantly popped into my head. A few years after that I'm watching Boyz N The Hood and the song, "Ooh Child" plays as young Doughboy is getting arrested and this movie again popped into my head. Amazing how music can trigger memory.

  • @kalystovonsteuben Crazy how I could have posted the same thing. HBO/Cinemax put out lots of movies like this. Tuuf Turf is another one I remember.

  • @backyardbread Classic! And imagine that... Robert Downey, jr in an 80's teen movie. I would love to know why he wasn't part of the cast in The Outsiders.

  • @kalystovonsteuben Ya I remember this in the exact same way as you...small world!!:):)

  • @SkorpionOne How true!

  • warriors ripoff

  • @muchohumpty hey jerk this film is not the warriors ripoff this film is better then the warriors this film is about teenage rebellion

  • @muchohumpty listen jerk watch the freaking film before I find you and kick your butt

  • @muchohumpty You have your opinion I have mine I like this film you don't but come on the scene where the kids break stuff and sets stuff on fire is better than the scenes with The warriors fighting other gangs so shutup why do you hate the film because there is no gangs oh or do you think that people would watch The Warriors execpet this film those kids were working so hard for the film if it wasn't for this film the kids would have not became famouse jerk

  • @cholmes1975 I agree. "Warriors" borders on gay.

  • one of the best movies ever!!! i wonder if the smashing pumpkins song "1979" was inspired by this movie. Great movie, great song.

  • yea i heear that !

  • I LOVE THIS !!!!!

  • I remeber seeing this movie as a kid. Great flick.

  • @Lfdjake91 do you think you would like it now..as a GROWNUP!!!!!! argghh...I just turned 47..I was 15 when It was made ..(not released?) I dont wanna grow up....

  • @joeblowthehot Funny that you ask that as I have considered buying & watching this movie so that I can see if it was really as good as I remember.

  • Put a shit fuck ton of money into anything, big rich mainstream song, tons of well paid extras and expensive locations and big budget mother fucking shit and the mindless fucking masses will flock to it... by the way, I am fucking pissed off right now. Been making movies for 14 years and haven't gotten where I wanted yet.

  • @johneeeee You my friend, are retarded. This was an extremely low budget movie that was never even released in theaters.

  • @ stupify551, Nope, It Was Granada Colorado in Prowers County on US 50!

  • ARCADE FIRE!

  • @jayang01 is that what that video was about?

  • @JonnyRocketfingers7 AF are using this clip with another clip from "Camelot" as an intro in their concerts.

  • i think denver colorado is the background setting and theatrics

  • i believe this was filmed in denver

  • One of my favorite films ever made PERIOD.....next to maybe Halloween!

  • We're organising a party at school in wich we'll re-enact the riot scene in the movie.....It's going to be so much fun!

  • AWWWW!!!!!! THIS IS JOHN EVANS!! THIS SCHOOL IS IN GREELEY!! I GO TO THIS SCHOOL!! HAHAHA FUKEN AWESOMEEE!!! GOOO JOHN EVANS DRAGONS!!!! WHOOOO

  • Matt Dillion is hot!!!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @Death2Disney96 you really got me - Van Halen Surrender - CheapTrick

  • This movies was partially filmed at my old school!

  • this movie defined our time!!!!! Rebels waiting for a cause!!! This movie defined our generation!!!!

  • Something strange is happening

  • Loved this as a teenager. Love the hostility shown to authority, as a teen that is. The scene where Matt Dillon gets shot is a classic case of shitty acting.

  • ik y its like tht...dally is there!

  • Matt Dillion iz the best actor in the world

  • come on michael kramer make another movie already

  • awesome kick ass late 70's movie.....klassik!!!!!

  • it's based on a true story from bayside middle school in foster city, ca

  • I was only seven when this movie came out, so I first saw it on late night t.v when I was eighteen and I really loved it at the time, being as it is about rebellion and all that, I took it seriously. Now as a 38 year old, I own the dvd and still watch it, but it's more for kitsch value than anything else...and the awesome soundtrack. Oh, and Matt Dillon and that incredible hair! Any woman worth her salt would've been jealous of that hair.

  • my favorite movie. ever. oh my gawddd, they need to make more movie like this.

  • there some not right with the grown up back in the 80s they where called that back then but i called them ass holes back then i m 37 year i dont think as my self as a grown would nvere ever wanted to be one i just wanted to be old a nife by law to do what i wanted

  • Do today's young people think it really would of been kickass to grow up in the 80's?

  • @jityr2 Probably not because they don't know what fun is. They would most likely say it'd suck, what could you do? I wouldn't be surprised to hear a kid say, "That must have sucked to have to walk to a friends house to see if they were home." I wonder if kids even know what a busy signal is on a telephone.

  • this movie was government propaganda piece put out in 1979 to help elect Ronny Regan. It's mission was to scare old people into electing a cold-hearted Republican to lower taxes, brutalize criminals, and rule the country like a king.

  • @bblokes maybe-but this movie was pretty realistic, thats the way it was where i lived-we used to get high in the houses under construction, or the model homes-we used to hang at the rec center-we just never took over and torched the school-but that school was just like ours-the "open concept" school

  • @bblokes Horseshit. The film spoke more about what happens when you neglect kids in favor of commerce. Its like the opposite of what you wrote. Did you see the film?

  • @mrmundungus obviously they don't teach sarcasm where you're from. get a life freak.

  • @bblokes I actually think the movie genuinely sympathized with both the young teenagers and their parents, albeit in a misguided way. That was the era of "maybe we're being too tough on our kids, we need to listen to them, try to understand them, etc., or maybe something like this (i.e. the movie's ending) will happen." Of course, that misguidedness left a whole generation of kids screwed up and utterly unprepared for the adult world, but the road to hell is paved with good intentions, right?

  • @danning1 could not agree more. great post. can't believe this film is over 30 years old!

  • it would be so kick ass to grow up in the eightys!!

  • @JadeBennette11 fuck the 80s, 70s is bchin

  • @JadeBennette11 It was. There was never a time like it...

  • ya man all this really happened the only thing that they changed is their names. Thats why the signs on the street say "watch out for children".

  • i wanna see this movie :D this looks high def for a 70's movie trailer lol WHO IS THIS ANNOUNCER?! HE'S IN LIKE EVERY 70'S COMMERCIAL!!

  • Man, perfect example of a spoiler trailer!

  • This movie Is my hands-down favorite ever! My dad put it on to occupy me and my best friend cuz we were being too loud, and now whenever we're together, we watch it. It means so much to us! This is OUR movie, ever since we were 11! One of the best movies to come out of 1979! The other was The Warriors, directed by Walter Hill. Google it, it's a cult classic!

  • @LovesTheWarriors yeah, i'm pretty sure the jail bus at the end actually drove all the way to New York and these kids formed the Van Cortlandt Rangers.

  • @Alphabex8 i could see abby being a lizzie!

  • @LovesTheWarriors haha! hell yeah. "man, we got to come here more often"

  • @Alphabex8 totally! i love cochise!

  • @LovesTheWarriors i love the fact that you know more about that movie than i do! props, man.

  • @Alphabex8 thanks, i literally know EVERYTHING about that movie. it was a favorite of my dads, and he made me watch it when i was like, 8 , and its been my favorite ever since,.

  • @LovesTheWarriors ok, i've always wondered this: whats the name of the mime gang and the rollerskatin' gang in the subway?

  • @Alphabex8 the mimes are from Soho, and theyre called The Hi-Hats, and the guys roller-skating are The Punks.

  • @LovesTheWarriors I love that movie too and the game my favorite movie and game.

If you know everything then tell me the name of the 19 main gangs.

  • @PMNS1995 1. The Warriors 2. The Gramercy Riffs 3. The Rouges 4. The Turnbull A.C.s 5. The Orphans 6. The Lizzies 7. The Punks 8. The Baseball Furies 9. The Soho Hi-Hats 10. The Electric Eliminators 11. The Moon runners 12. The Saracens 13. The Jones Street Boys 14. The Van Cortlandt Rangers 15. The Boppers 16. The Savage Huns 17. The Destroyers 18. The Satans Mothers 19. The Hurricanes
  • I love this F##king movie! and the soundtrack is great too!

  • the school that over the edge was filmed is john evans middle school in greeley colorado i went there and its still the same exact way exept for the explosions lol

  • This was filmed an hour away from Columbine..... what a strange coincidence .

  • @fartmagnet Not really.

  • @JohnKreeseCobraKai So you don't see the similarity , coincidental as it might be?

  • @fartmagnet I don't find this movie remotely similar to what happened in Columbine.

  • @JohnKreeseCobraKai Disfranchised youth?

  • @fartmagnet That's reaching.

  • esta pelucula era la preferida de kurt cobain, de nirvana

  • I was 15 when this came out. What a great movie for an already defiant teenager!

  • OMG!!!! dats meh school!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I don't think kids have it the same way now as they did then. Where I live there are no teen centers, all the kids are online.

In the original the drug use was not "visible" but talked about. Now they would over expose it and it wouldn't leave much to the imagination. I

  • is this the prequel to The Warriors?

  • @Alphabex8 lol no

  • Wow I've never heard of this movie before...looks quite cool actually :)

  • @KillaKitty09 It is a good movie. I believe it is based on a true story.

  • @Sylvania49 This movie is based on a 1973 article in the San Francisco Examiner about Foster City, CA, in the early 70's. I lived there, I was one of those kids.

  • Comment removed

  • @Sylvania49 The movie included a lot of artistic license but living in Foster City, in 1970 was much like the movie. We'd party and go to "the rec". Foster City was a new "planned" community with new neighborhoods being built enmass. We'd break into the new homes just completed and use them as a party house; when the security guard or cops came, we'd run and hide and make a game out of it.

  • @bobrynd LOL !! I thought I was a rowdy kid, sounds like you had a hell of a lot fun in your younger years.

  • @Sylvania49 I gave you the PG version. Didn't mention things like rolling down the street at night on bikes, knocking off car rear view mirrors and antennas, joy riding in our parents car, etc. We were indeed delinquints. Most of us survived to become upright citizens and honorable members of the community.

I kind of chuckle at todays youth. they think they are doing radical stuff like it's never been done before - HA! Been there, done that!

  • @bobrynd Now I received the R rated version lol. Time sure goes by fast doesn't it ?

  • @Sylvania49 you may get this a lot but NO IT'S NOT BASED ON A TRUE STORY...IT'S BASED ON A TRUE CULTURE...RITE?

  • @Sylvania49 It's not based on a true story it's based on a true event that happened in foster city california

  • This is the Best teen angst movie out there. This is when movies were good unlike the movies now.People wouldn't dare make movies like this now because of the pc crap, which I just think is fuckin' stupid there are no movies that are REAL to actually teens. That is why this movie is a classic because it is Real!

  • Epic.... I luv Matt dillon

  • I love all of Matt Dillons older stuff, also new of course but this is fucking epic.

  • Damn, this brings back memories, i forgot the name of this flick till you posted it!, thanks

  • My favorite movie of all time!! This is what it was like where I grew up almost to the T !! The music and way of life as a kid back in the 1970's!! Thanks for posting this video!!! 5 ***** ALL THE WAY !!!!!

  • @fuckyouobama1 yep this is not stylized, it's how it was. The late 70's were so amazing and distinct, compared to the earlier part of the 70's.

  • @fuckyouobama1 shit mahn growing up in the new millenium sucked

  • Great movie! Hard to believe it was made over 30 years ago but I'll bet teens in suburbia today can still relate to this film.

  • the school is j. evans middle school in greeley colorado im a current student there this is awesome they tore up and took over the school :P

  • @VIGIL970 oh yeah, does it still have the cafetorium?

  • Awesome film! and Music! wonder where the teen actors are now?

  • yeah nothin like the old days with your friends...dealing with racists, 100 people brawls

stabbings over just because you look their way (not even mean mug)

home invasions with armed gund, theses vietnamses really scare you, you always have to be prepared

of cousre theses were vietnamses immigrants so things were a little more violent thqan theses folks

  • this movie has a great soundtrack, check out the listing.

  • thank you 4 posting a long lost movie. i can remember it word 4 word. by the way what ever happened to carl? i never seen him in any other movie.

  • Checked IMDB and the last thing he did was in 2000. Some TV show I've never heard of. Also says he played a TV reporter in the movie "Dick", in '99.

  • Why don't they make movies like this anymore?

  • @Castaril because now a days Hollywood is just interested in making money and not making good films.

PLUS kids are way to into Computer generated stuff and after effects.

I love this movie beyond belief!

I actually named my Rottweiler "Richie White"

  • @Castaril because they are too busy making shit remakes of every film ever made

  • @Castaril Because people have lost originality, they want to make films complex as shit, instead of something so simple that makes it complicated, its shit that they dont do films like this...

  • "any kid who tells on another kid, is a dead kid"

haha matt dillon was such a badass in this movie,

i wish he would have killed that pig instead of the other way around

  • Grew up where this was all filmed. Aurora, Co. Some of it is in my actual neighborhood.

  • and just across town in Littleton it came true, sort of

  • i love this movie nd matt dillon
