It's more than just straight line acceleration and cornering performance. It's about the owner liking the feel, sound, and look of the car they have. You can strip a honda convert it to AWD and make it super fast and into a cornering monster but it's not as good as a Ferrari to some or even to most.

You´re right, first of all an R8 V8 has about 420 - 525 hp (there are different types), it weights 1560 kg, whereas the BMW M5 weights 1855 kg. The BMW is a sedan, there is space for the family and all the luggage and it still beats an R8 V8. The 599 will kick sand in many if not all these cars faces. EXEPT for the all powerful ZR1. Which will hand that 599 its @ss on a planter with a cup of tea... And for less than half the price to boot. I'm still an e46 M3 fan tho.

I searched for ur comments but could'nt find them. Do you think vid is bogus? Even if you look at other reviews of these cars. I believe you will find that the 599 and ZR1 very close in 0-60 and 1/4 mile times. By the 1/4 mile marker, the ZR1 is flexing its American muscle and pulling away from the esteemed FERRARI 559!!(as seen in vid) The 599 is an awesome car and I love seeing it beat up on all these cars. But it simply can't handle that 6.2L supercharged "Can of Whoopass" :-)

@Energonorama you make a good point. most of the time people are biased when racing against certain ferraris, like you said they shift early, a ferrari is naturally aspirated so it needs to rev to perform, and when they vs those american cars it seems a lil sus that they are not revving it to get it moving
p.s I checked autotrader here and you can get 911 turbos coupe or cabriolet for $115k-$130k there were no ZR1's found I expect it would cost more than 130k tho

You should... I own a full standard manual transmission F430 and I race every week... for 3 years now. Without any problem. I had an M6 (also standard) and the clutch was gone in
4 months on weekly-based track days. And the brakes never worked well.
Well the 599 is just the faster car.. and the gear box.. Well believe it or not. SHIFTS faster than the Ferrari ENZO.. Top gear and AMS sad that it shift exactly as fast as Ferraris F1 car 2005.. Im not in to formula 1 and I don't know a shit about the F1 cars but that sounds extreme :p

That's because there is not a Ferrari Enzo F1 that mean the gearbox needs 60 miliseconds to change gear. The Enzo have a more stable gearbox that corrects the car for oversteer. Also the engine of the 599 is less powerfull than Enzo's engine.
The fact that the M5 is actually competing with such a beautiful supercar makes this whole video hilarious. A sports/luxury sedan does not compete with a super fast exotic car.
Who are the tossers in the BMW? The Ferrari 599 absolutely smashed the BMW M5 (with more power mind you). I have never heard in the history of racing that a car beating another by about 50 car lengths in the space of 20 odd seconds was a close race! FORZA FERRARI! SLOW BMW! When I first drove the M5 it was very impressive and the salesman did not need to say a word to sell it to me. After driving a 599 recently, this animal of a car is in a league of its own. I am just outlining to those who watch this that there is a stark difference between these two cars.
If you want to crank up the power on the M5 then let us do the same for the Ferrari. No matter what way you look at it the M5 will always be slower. The LP640 could be faster, cheaper and all you want but in fuel economy only can do 5 on city and 13 on highway versus the 11 city and 15 highway of the 599 GTB.

Please see this vid; (type in)"ZR1 Drag Race King" then tell me were i'm wrong. Maybe this is not the correct 599 model or something?? Don't get me wrong though, i would rather have a 559 over a ZR1 anyday. But it still looks like a ZR1 would "Blow the Doors Off" a 599. And don't forget it costs $200k Less! :-)

I searched for ur comments but could'nt find them. Do you think vid is bogus? Even if you look at other reviews of these cars. I believe you will find that the 599 and ZR1 very close in 0-60 and 1/4 mile times. By the 1/4 mile marker, the ZR1 is flexing its American muscle and pulling away from the esteemed FERRARI 559!!(as seen in vid) The 599 is an awesome car and I love seeing it beat up on all these cars. But it simply can't handle that 6.2L supercharged "Can of Whoopass" :-)

ZR1 - 650 bhp / 604 lb/ft
0-300km/h;
599 - 29.9 secs
ZR1 - 32.6 secs
So.. that can must be leaking whooped-ass all over the place.
I find that the American test videos that i've seen are all pretty much biased in favour of American cars.
For example, in that video they shift at 6000rpm in the 599 when its peak power is @7600rpm....

@Energonorama you make a good point. most of the time people are biased when racing against certain ferraris, like you said they shift early, a ferrari is naturally aspirated so it needs to rev to perform, and when they vs those american cars it seems a lil sus that they are not revving it to get it moving

OK I've seen an Asian vid where an NSX beat up a Ferrari 355 and I thought it was a little bogus. So lets say your correct. The vid does show the ZR1 is a force to be reckoned with. The new ZR1 is a car that will eat BMW's,Ferrari's, and everything near it for breakfast! Including supercars that cost double its price. For some reason people just love to "hate on" the Corvette. This doesn't mean I would rather have a Vette over a M6 or Ferrari. But you cant deny the ZR1 its @ss kicking prowess

I was saying that the 599 is built as one of the only sports cars that can can preform with abilities of a car that is built to be uncomfortable yet extremely fast. The 599 is a rare exception that is only beat by the corvette zr1 and cars that are more expensive than itself... aka. $300,000

You should... I own a full standard manual transmission F430 and I race every week... for 3 years now. Without any problem. I had an M6 (also standard) and the clutch was gone in
4 months on weekly-based track days. And the brakes never worked well.

No, at that point I beleive both had decent traction. You should be able to hear the M5 spin if it did.
Also, the M5 was even at lower speeds (where it should have been spinning) and lost at speed.

Well the 599 is just the faster car.. and the gear box.. Well believe it or not. SHIFTS faster than the Ferrari ENZO.. Top gear and AMS sad that it shift exactly as fast as Ferraris F1 car 2005.. Im not in to formula 1 and I don't know a shit about the F1 cars but that sounds extreme :p

Its a shame the guys who posted this clip did not have a chat to the person driving the 599. I assure you the 599 driver made some sort of error at the start. You can tell because the car does not jump from the rolling start. If anyone who has seen a 599 put the accelerator to the floor from 50 knows what I am talking about. Forza!

That's because there is not a Ferrari Enzo F1 that mean the gearbox needs 60 miliseconds to change gear. The Enzo have a more stable gearbox that corrects the car for oversteer. Also the engine of the 599 is less powerfull than Enzo's engine.

I have never heard in the history of racing that a car beating another by about 50 car lengths in the space of 20 odd seconds was a close race! FORZA FERRARI! SLOW BMW! When I first drove the M5 it was very impressive and the salesman did not need to say a word to sell it to me. After driving a 599 recently, this animal of a car is in a league of its own. To mention the words M5, 599, and close in the same sentence is beyond comprehension and as far from the truth as I have heard. I understand you are having fun doing what you do. Who would not? I am just outlining to those who watch this that there is a stark difference between these two cars.

If you want to crank up the power on the M5 then let us do the same for the Ferrari. No matter what way you look at it the M5 will always be slower. The other thing no one can argue is we are talking a 'FERRARI' here. The BMW, no matter how much power you want to add to it, will always be just a BMW.

The LP640 could be faster, cheaper and all you want but in fuel economy only can do 5 on city and 13 on highway versus the 11 city and 15 highway of the 599 GTB.
Also you are talking of the MOST POWERFUL Lamborghini and the 599 GTB is not the best ferrari. It's more like a baby veyron than a race car. It's full of equipment (not same as LP640)

11th season? Ferrari usually uses much more fuel than Lambo. Sometimes 599 can consume as much petrol as all world famous Bugatti Veyron. Millionaires who have such cars don't think about amount of petrol.
