Alternative energy tech thats allowed to be used by the sheeple are woefully inadequate when it come to powering the infrastructure of an entire nation. Solar and wind power can never equal the output of oil and coal sources which are the most readily available energy source in the third world. however, we're talking about developing nations that might have limited to no current energy use aka they plow by hand or animal, use wood or similar for heating/cooking, etc. an individual living under such conditions couldn't possibly have much of a power need. so instead of building a power plant to power a couple villages, stick a solar panel on every hut. many american houses could produce more than they use w/ an array, so a 3rd world hut could power itself and put the excess on the grid.

what's so unrealistic about putting solar panels or small wind turbines on every hut or property in a village and connecting the villages together to share excess power instead building a power plant and connecting it to all the villages to power them? i'm not denying that they're civilizations, but powering that civilization will radically change it. and since many civilizations are communal in nature, power by sharing community energy will fit in more naturally than individual metering.
