@DC11961 Brother, it's a specific technique, called Mongolian throat-singing. Also, Avi does mention it in their NPR interview, prolly about two thirds through. You can look it up. Basically, a whistly-sound above the bass. He is freakishly good at it.

@DC11961 With all due respect, there are many types of throat singing. Some of them definitely damage your vocal cords, some don't. The type Avi uses is just healthily singing a normal pitch , but simultaneously shaping his mouth to produce the overtones.
