ELO's lowest point. JL pretending to be Lennon, the awful BOP album, rushed out to satisfy and resolve his then contract so he could disolve what was left of the band (KG sacked, JL played the bass on the album, Smith was wheeled out for live work and appearences). Only Bev remained loyal in trying to keep the ELO brand going, and even then spiteful Jeff pissed all over that too, refusing to allow the ELO name to be used as is and insisting KG was not part of the line-up for the first album.
@trap0001 Can you really blame Jeff? He wanted out of ELO during Time. He had enough. He was burned out. But Jet Records made him do three more albums. I'd be fed up and tired if I was Jeff.
@FriendlyWebSlinger That only really explains why Balance of Power was so bad an album. There is no excuse for the bitchiness to his fellow members and why he thought he was John Lennon at the time.
THANK YOU so much for posting this...I remember when this first aired.I missed it because i had to go to a lame ass picnic for my dads company.I didnt get the chance to pop in a tape to record it and have waited until today to finally see it..Thank you again!!!!!!!!
Hey, Jorge this is great quality. I have this also on tape as well. I was going to upload it as well. Then I noticed that Dick Clark Productions not only ordered this video taken down from different You Tube channels but their entire channel was closed down by You Tube. Word of advice remove any references to Dick Clark and American Bandstand immediately .
LOVE IT !!! Nothing makes me happier than seeing an ELO performance I've never seen before - I don't care what incarnation of ELO it is... 70's ELO, 80's ELO, cheesy lip synched ELO... as long as it's got Jeff it's ELO to me !!!
Good music as always and a nice song but the sad truth is that ELO ceased to exist when they dropped their incredible string section of cellos and violin.I don't know how Jeff could in all honesty, continue to carry that name forward!
I sometimes wish Jeff would cut out the Beatlesy humour when interviewed on TV because it evades deflects questions, some of them could've been quite interesting too, particularly the final days of ELO. The Kelly Groucutt interview three years previously, for example, on AB was great as it gave us an insight into how his solo album was made.
Thing is they went bye bye right after this. Calling America had charted by the time this taped/aired(there was about two weeks from tape to air at this time on AB), and So Serious tanked in the US(failed to crack Hot 100) and UK I think.

The use of (mimed) cellos seems a bit out of place on So Serious! Thanks for another gem Jorge
