It always seemed to me that the record company and even Janet were somewhat indifferent about the success or failure of the "Damita Jo" CD. The choice to release "I Want You" as the first single just seemed like a bad decision. It wasn't strong enough to be a first single. Also, can somewhat explain to me why her vocals in this song sound so muffled....she sounds so nasally. Honestly, when I first heard it on the radio back in 2004, I thought it was a morning show parody or jingle.

The simple fact is that white corporate media america wanted to make an example out of Janet Jackson after the "Super Bowl Incident". So The project was doomed from the start, not 2 mention that Virgin purposely leaked her original lead single in Australia "Just A Little While"

The "Damita Jo" CD wasn't as bad as some make it out to be, however, it flopped for a few reasons, other than the backlash from the Super Bowl incident. Keep in mind, before this CD, Janet had almost 20 years of back to back hits. At a certain point in an artist's career, sales begin to fall off and the hits become fewer and fewer as younger artists come into the fold and the overall musical climate continues to evolve. Also, "I WANT U" wasn't a strong enough single to lead off this CD.
