ive played a lil ultimate, but always thought the calls were made by the players themselves? i only played at college intramurals, not at national level. im guessing in higher leagues there is always a ref to solve a stalemate call between teams? awesome vid.

that person is called an "observer". the calls are still left to players, but the observer is there mostly for "up" & "down" calls, travels, fouls, and deciding whether or not players were in bounds when they made the catch.

@schinhxh: It's called a 'Resurrection' or 'the greatest' because its pretty much the greatest play in ultimate.

1. Jump from in-bounds

2. Grab a disc that's going out

3. Throw it back in before you land out of bounds

4. Your teammate catches it

When you get excited and have a disc in your hand. It's really hard not to spike it. I disagreed with spiking until I started playing d-line on an open team this year. Getting a break is such a big deal that spiking just happens. I never spike aggressively or at an opponent but for the shear exhilaration of scoring.

Honestly, when I score big I just toss the disc to the line like it happens all the time and I'm used to it. The only time I spike is when were all dickin around in practice.
