  • The Derby Mafia killed the GC. Now that stinks:-(

  • I Got That Tape Years Ago.. Before Moved To A House.

  • If this was still here today (and other stations that were demolished) I wonder what our railways would be like? This video is the nearest I'll ever get to see of this station which is a huge shame :(.

  • I often travelled between Sheffield and Nottingham.

  • Lovely to have the sounds...

    Rob

  • I remember going through Nottingham Vic in 1963; we went by train from Oxford to Grantham and on to Cranwell. On the return journey we had a considerable wait at Nottingham Vic, and I was mystified by this huge, empty, station, with a seemingly continuous succession of iron ore trains working through. It was a very impressive station though.

  • Dam sad to see it gone =(

  • 63711 & 63589 are actually 'O1's like 63592

  • The Evening Post & News reported that Victoria station died on 1 July 1967, but the service to Rugby continued until Arkwright St station reopened in September 1967 as the new Northern terminus of the Rugby service that lasted only another 2 years. A sensible plan would have been to maintain a 2-track right of way through the new shopping centre for future use but no.such foresight prevailed.

  • they ought to have used nottingham victoria like the metro in newcastle and use the station as a

trram station I rememeber my grandfather taking me to watch steam trains when i was about 6yrs old know we have only one station and they what to extend platform at nottingha midalnd

  • Thank you for sharing a bit of history

  • However, this station was demolished in the late 1960's !

  • Thanks for a great piece of video, people say that they were the dirty grimy days of rail, but to me, that made it all the more interesting, I loved it, it was fun getting filthy dirty while at work, it gave character to everything, unlike the sanitized railway of today, thanks for posting this video

  • this video yes the station is now shopping centre

but there is still an underground tunnel that starts

at mansfield road where the beginning of the tunnel start

  • BR deliberately ran down their steam engines towards the end of steam in the '60's hence their grubby state.

  • Network rail this week informed us all that five new high speed lines are under investigation for opening in 2025. One of them is the follow the Midland Mainline to Sheffield- surely this must mean a re-birth for the GCR! Superior loading gauge, ease of electrification, no level crossing, most infra-structure intact, level route, What more can one say

  • great video.Shame it is gone, should have been kept, electified and now running 180mph trains direct on the MAnchester - Paris Gard du Nord via Woodhead, Sheff Vict. Nottingham Vict. Rugby. London St Panc,

  • love the video

  • it looked a bigger station than Marylebone!

  • It is still amazing how knackered and unkempt the trains were under BR

  • oh yes, of course they would have never been in that condition under private ownership.

    dream on

  • Most, if not all, rail companies employed teams of cleaners to keep their engines looking smart but please see my earlier comment as to why they were looking grubby.

  • brilliant footage of gcr and victoria station.what a shame its all gone any morefootage of the gcr to sheffield or the great northern to derby would be great
