  • Ok, I'll explain blitz. First you click the blitz option atk and you will see the cursor pointing at sabin ontop of him before you click A to pick him, press left right left then A. I advise doing it slowly

  • What if Sabin also tells Vargas: "Here's another blitz that I learned. It's called 'Incorrect Blitz Input!' "? ¿Find any more 'Incorrect Blitz Input' jokes?

  • This game brings back plenty of memories. Is there anybody out there who could maybe e-mail me a hint of how to get this game put on my laptop? My excuse is, since I'm majoring in English in college, I kinda put out the techy stuff. I know I'm being frowned upon, I deserve it. Anyways, I'm open for any options.

  • @loveenglish100 coolrom.com, get an emulator and the FF6 rom, baddabing baddaboom you can play

  • I hate entering DeathBlow/Blitz commands with a Nintendo D-Pad. I could do it perfectly nearly every time on PC, but with the D-Pads being a single button that you press a side of at a time, it often thinks I pressed a direction I didn't. For the same reason, I can't reliably wall-jump in Super Metroid outside an emulator.

  • Blitz? I see no balls. Oh wait there's four other men in the party! Horray!

  • wth i can't blitz -_-'

  • I like what she says in the advance version where she thinks he was one of vargas bears

  • i really suck at blitzing in this game

  • Terra: That's a lie! Locke: TERRA!!!! ....why are you yelling at her Locke? She's obviously confused and has no clue of whats going on lmao

  • i just love twins palom and porome, sabin and edgar

  • my translation of the game said finish him with blitz.. that was all no explanation how to but thank god for this.

  • thank you so much for this i was having a hard time with blitz >.<

  • Lol, point 5 is ironically bastard DUDE.

  • Sabin is a bear...? That makes me think of something entirely different...

  • @dRevan64 me too!

  • Sabin FTW

  • Thank you, I could not get mine to work right.

  • hate this boss hate this boss hate this boss hate this boss hate this boss

    Thanks

  • hate this boss hate this boss hate this boss hate this boss

  • at 8:34: "A Cherry"

    "Your a monster Zorg."

    "I know."

HCBailly did you say "A Cherry" because of that movie? If I'm right you know which one!

  • how the fuck do you do this blitz shit.. i cant do it

  • @SuperBlackjack22

press a on blitz and while it selects Sabin, press left right left and press a again

  • @twoLETSplay Thanks! I've been sitting for hours trying to do it after you select him and then do the combo

  • Sabin totally broke the fourth wall during that fight

  • i got another mithril claw :)

  • Died so many times on that Blitz part, all because like you said, the game tells you how to do it a little too late...

  • When I was a kid this game was new to me and I was stuck at Vargas and had to put the game down for probably more than a year. I also gained a lot of levels before I gave up on it, because I kept thinking there was something else I was missing. I did the blitz incorrectly thinking that I had to push left, right, left, while Sabin moved forward (not when the cursor was on him).

I was soooooo happy when I finally figured it out. Sadly, that was the hardest part in the game for me.

  • thanks, this really helped. :P

  • You are a good actor!

I had the same reactions first time playing in vargas' fight.

  • Wow, I didn't know that little message pops up to teach you Blitzes, here I thought you were going to fake getting irritated and try to do a Hadouken or something.

  • She takes it too well in the JP version too. xD

  • CRITICAL RESEARCH FAILURE!

    Pandora was a WOMAN!

  • 5:09 ---> I, for one, appreciate it. In all the countless times I've played this, I'd never seen that little exchange before. Thanks, buddy :-)

  • acxully its an urn

  • I believe the PSX version, actually tells you sooner. Since they felt, that it took too long for learning.

Never really found out, but I found that version hasn't been so slow.

  • lol you really nailed the reaction to when someone would first try to use sabin's blitz

  • Pandora was the women who opened the jar pithos out of curiosity

  • Even if they are twins one is still older than the other. Edgar was born either seconds or a few minutes before Sabin making him older. Just thought I would point that out to you.

  • @ord4everX14 twins start developing in the womb at the same time. technically they are the same age.

  • @Ignore14 Age is counted at birth.

  • @ord4everX14 not to mention one of them could just take the role of big brother, and sabin could be bigger physically

  • Just got this game as Xhristmas present (had to wait for it to come in to relative who were sending it)

Thanks, HC, really needed help with the blitz!

  • Sabin is a "bear"... no wonder he never gets a woman.

Terra has a green cherry. O_o

    Sorry.

  • ;) a few hours ago i was playing for the 1st time this game and reached this part. It was frustrating like shit but finally i watched this video and relized how esay it was to dot the fucking blitz technique. Do it when the cursor is selecting you! LOL

I'm subbing to this guy definitely. P.D. i have a friend named Jesus Alejandro Días Vargas xD

  • Same.

  • WHITE CAPE!

I've played this game over and over, never found that!

  • I constantly get video comments and messages from people who can't do blitz, I explain to them better than sabin and they just say "I can't do it".

    Yikes...

  • thats what i use lol

  • Ahaha Since Vargas handed my ass to me on the first rounded and forced me to reload and get random battles over again to get to him, I inputed Pummel on the first hit when Sabin joins in and he died. I guess Pummel is just a trigger to get rid of Vargas.

  • Well im thinking he doesnt want to spoil the game for us who havent played it b4.

  • HcBailly tecnicly there are big brothers in twin usually ane is born a few a munits earitler that the other

  • You know, looking at the whole story with Duncan, Vargas, and Sabin now, it reminds me so much of Hokuto no Ken A.K.A. Fist of the North Star. Hell, Vargas has an attack that gives you only a certain amount of time to live much like the show. And then there is of course, Pummel. 2:27: ATATATATATATATA!!!

    ( Hokuto Hyakuretsu Ken! )

    Sabin: "Omae wa mou shindeiru..."

  • The returners base music is awesssssome

  • when i first tryed blitz i went a a Left Right Left. ya so i had to use game faq to figure out its a left right left a.

  • We Are VIewers.

    haha

Thanks again, HC. Another good one.

  • I got this game for my birthday today... And I can't pull off a blitz to save my life.

  • Mythology master here,

Pandora was given a box to protect and never open, but his wife opened it unleashing all the evils of the world, essentially this is an Adam and Eve story where the wife causes humanity to fall from grace. It appears in multiple regions in various manners (in greek i think it's an urn)

  • ? Pandora WAS the wife. the husband was Epimetheus (sp)

  • First black character in FF?

    ITS TIME FOR CHANGE!

  • love this theme and BLITZ FTW!

  • well usually twins are born a few minutes apart

  • Hahaha... I bought the whole soundtrack of this game off iTunes, and "The Unforgiven" was listed as "The Inforgiven." It made me laugh my head off.

Secondly, blitz drove me crazy in the GBA version (when I played this game for the first time). The instructions in that version made me think that I had to hit A after the cursor appears, THEN input the blitz command. I was stuck for about a weekend before figuring it out.

  • 2:10 "relax, there's no need to hurry!"

although if you do it wrong you will DIE in 20 seconds... : s

  • ok ok ok, so in this game, blitz is an attack

in FFX, its a frickin game.

    HUH????

  • In FF4, it's a Ninja technique. Does that help at all?

  • "A Cherry"...The Fifth Element. I LOVE that movie, lol

  • Im not kidding, but that bear thing was surprisingly accurate

  • I remember that once I put wrong Blitz combination - some much powerful Blitz than Pummel but it didn't work on Vargas. It must be Pumme. Always.

  • Sabin can beat those bears up with is bear hands

  • what's with the defenses being bugged......this game and then FFVII had defenses bugs....

  • Haha, I used to be in a club called the Returners. We were even cheesy enough to have the Returner's theme from this game as background music on our web page. Ouch. This was like ten years ago, thank God.

  • idk how to use the Blitz i tried left , right , left then the A button but it didnt work :(

  • I love Gauntlet references. The PS2 Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows sounds similar to Gauntlet II (NES) and Gauntlet Legends (I have it on N64). Oh Gauntlet and your colors...

  • The "hope" in pandora's box is actually "false hope."

  • When I first played the game, I screamed because I couldn't do the Blitz commands. Now, I can pull them off in my sleep!

  • I remember how frustrated I was in this part. Then I realised how easy it really was. Almost started crying with frustration lol.

  • In the GBA version, Terra calls Sabin "one of Vargas's bears". I laughed out loud at that.

  • nvm. srry

  • couldnt u hav stolen mitheril claws(thats wat its called in the GBA version and i dont think its spelled right) from Vargas?

  • What would happen if you knew how to use Blitz beforehand, and tried to use it on Vargas?

  • the battle will end sooner in the same way you saw in the video. (without instructions on how to use blitz)

  • i used aura bolt on him twice then it told me how to use blitz techniques lol

  • i bet that when terra is asked to join the returned, she will refuse the first time.

  • LOL I was gonna comment on how vargas cries about sabin already knew about the FIRST blitz technique, but you beat me to it. well played mr bailly

  • I love Sabin's Blitzes. Especially, that attack...

  • What stat makes Sabin's blitz more powerful throughout the progress of game if it isn't Bat.Pwr?

  • magic power i think>?

  • Some of them are based on Vigor, but more of them are based on Magic Power (ie: Aurabolt).

  • Muhahahahahahahahahah! Damn straight! That's why I love that move, and also because it's non-Elemental.

  • ahh, yeah so I guess it does show you how to use blitz. I think one time i played and vargas killed me before i got to that point. maybe i just got confused.

  • I love how Sabin realized their existence after the battle. Yeah, Edgar is an older twin of Sabin...

Didn't know there's a piece of paper and secret passage at the Banon's hideout.

  • Haha, Sabin's Blitzes used to trip me up in the beginning so much. I didn't understand their directions and so I kept dying. Eventually, i caught on what they meant and soon was blitzing all over the place. But it gets annoying at times, so I feel.

Also hope you show both version of dialogue for Terra's decision. XD

  • Locke mentions that someone important to him was 'jailed' by the Empire. That is a censored line. The person was actually killed by the Empire.

  • HCBailly, Congratulations!!!! I just checked your channel page, and I notice you just hit 9,000 subscribers!!! I know this has nothing to do with this video, but I felt I should offer kudos for hitting such a milestone. Here's to another 9,000!

  • 2:40 - He was going to choose you as a successor and you lost to the first Blitz? I think Sabin was just lying about that succession thing to make you calm down...

  • At 7:03, I thought it was a woman that opened the Pandora's Box. At least that's what I remember from reading Greek mythology. You know like how Eve ate that apple from the Bible.

  • Twins don't come out at the same time.

Whoever came out first is "big brother" or "big sister".

  • Yeah. If they came out at the same time, it would be painful... So painful that the mother would probably die in childbirth... But I think that's what happened with Edgar and Sabin's mom.

  • heh, you can use pummel right away and Vargas dies anyway

  • I don't think Terra should join the Returners. Why should she? She has the power of magic, she could take out anyone by herself. Now, if Banon were to maybe bribe her and give her something useful...

But seriously, maybe if Terra said no, they could give her a useful item to persuade her.

  • I always thought it was funny how you and your companions were small/simple sprites while enemy characters would be huge and detailed in comparison to you, making them seem like giants.

  • Nice Gauntlet reference.

  • HC how do you cut the random battle scenes when your recording these? Nice video btw :)

  • The most important question to be asked however: will HCBailly follow his strategy for the last LP series in the next episode, or will he favor the potential sheer ridiculousness that negation can provide?

  • Thought Pandora was a woman...

    Wikipedia agrees with me. :D

7:14 All that was left in the box was left in the box was hope eh? Shouldn't that mean that unlike all the evils unleashed upon the world that hope wasn't unleashed and thus the situation is hopeless? Crap...

  • Pandora of mythology, yes. Pandora of this game, no.

  • I have a sneaking suspicion that Green Cherries don't cure stomach aches...

  • Pandora doesn't go back in the box; he only comes out!

  • I'm pretty sure Pandora is the owner of the box, and a she.

  • sabin would rock at blitz ball...much better than wakka...wakka sucks

  • Sabin: ORAORAORAORAORAORA!!!

Vargas:W... ...what the... ...?! He... already taught you that?

Always loved this battle, so epic.

  • It's not critical, but during preemptive strikes, the character at the bottom will go first, where Edgar can best take advantage of it.

  • I think he meant monster formations (like that unique formation just at the exit from the mountain).

  • It makes it more likely/easier to learn abilities for that "feral" character.

  • 5:53 - They're independent in this version. I believe in the GBA version, they're based on his Strength and Stamina (Vigor) stats.

  • Ok, I did a master file for this game and somehow never knew about that piece of paper under the table. WHAT IS THAT!?

  • Haha, I love how Woolsey took out Terra's bear joke, and left Sabin's in. That never made sense to me until I played the fanslation and GBA version.

  • They are not twins (Sabin and Edgar), they just look alike, as referenced to earlier in the game.

  • That "Ray of Light, called hope" line doesn't make sense, because if the man unleashed all evils of the world, and hope was still in the box, would that mean that as long as it remained there, there was no hope? I thought Pandox Box shouldn't be opened becuase of that, so it stands to reason that letting out hope would have a similiar effect, no?

  • I've heard that hope was a mistranslation of being able to see the future and ancient Greeks were firm believers in fate.

  • After playing up to this point in the GBA version, I decided to give the SNES version a try, and I never realized just how much better the music was on the SNES, it is insane. Sure the GBA version has the better translation and less glitches but that music just doesn't compare.... Does FF4 and 5 suffer as badly as this?

  • I haven't played 4 or 5, but I was really surprised by the GBA music, too. This game has some of my favorite tracks ever synthesized, and for some reason they just don't translate well to the GBA. I mean, there are parts of some songs that you can barely pick out on the GBA. I guess it's just the different sound processor...

  • FF4A was really buggy and the worst of the remakes, IMHO.

FF5A was amazing and probably the best of the officially released versions. Despite having slightly lower sound quality, it was still great to me.

FF6A was where the game was getting so big that the limitations of the GBA to emulate an SNES game were becoming noticeable. Still, they fixed a lot of bugs, and didn't completely screw it up like FF4A.

  • i never had a single problem with ff4A, it was my first and 3rd favorite FF game XD, so how was FF4A screwed up? too easy? because i beat that game in 6th grade without any guide or online faq

  • My main gripe with FFIV Advance was the fact that the battle system itself was buggy and glitched. Often times, a character would fill up the ATB gauge and take his/her turn. Then they would immediately get to go again. It was like having a free Quick spell cast. It made a lot of battles WAY too easy.

  • When it comes to FFIV Advance, try to play the European/PAL version, if possible. It's less buggy than the American or Japanese releases, and even fixed some translation errors from the American version.

  • Yeah. The European/Japanese 1.1 versions fix or improve a lot of issues (most notably that timing issue with the ATB gauge).

They also unfortunately make the back row weird though. In the 1.0 versions, there are no back row weapons (which sucks). However, in the 1.1 versions, ALL weapons (including, say, swords and spears) apparently do the same damage from the back row EXCEPT bows (which should be back row weapons, though Rosa's Aim command will do 100% damage regardless).

  • Hrm, well, they were all ports, so most of the bugs that exist were also in the SNES originals (I suspect failure to optimize the code for GBA resulted in most of the timing issues on FFIVA).

And I doubt size was an issue, since GBA games can be up to 256 megabits, and these ports were all 64 megabits. I suspect the SNES graphic and (especially) sound hardware just have a certain je ne sais quoi that makes the games look and sound better, despite the greater CPU power of the GBA.

  • Yeah, I agree pretry much entirely with that, although I have to admit that certain songs from FFV I thought actually sounded BETTER on the GBA (although certain others did not).

  • 7:36 anyone else think this reminds them of the music from the Crystal/ice caves in Castlevania Synphony of the Night? or was it somewhere else, I just remember music that sounded a lot like this in that game. Anyway, nice episode there HC.

  • Though this translation is not perfect... (gym? nickel? memebers?) But I admit it´s a really good one, for its terrible translations age.

Terra´s theme rules! I dunno if it is classified as "Final fantasy VI´s main theme."

  • Pretty much... Used all over.

  • Oh, and I believe Duncan's wife was blaze about it because..well, martial artists are typically, in fiction like this, in a dangerous profession. She probably expected both to be dead when Sabin came back alone.

  • Regardless of being twins, one always comes out first, thus, the older brother, even if just by seconds. :)

  • When I was a little kid I was too stupid to input the command and got stuck here for like 30 hours.

  • I was wondering what you were doing at the beginning HC...I was thinking, "Is there some sort of secret I don't know about or is HC Nuckin Futs?".

I never knew about that little part with Sabin after the battle with Vargas. I know it's not anything important, but I'm just going to go ahead and let Sabin pay his respect (I will get a little bit of exp and gold going back to South Figaro to do that, so why not).

  • secret PAAASAGE!! :D

hehe! i love the commentry on these so much!

  • When dealing with twins in Japanese, which one was born first is actually important. This is not only a matter of culture, but also of language. Japanese has no word for "brother" as such - you have to choose between "ani" (big brother) "otouto" (little brother) or "kyoudai" (both of the above, or "sibling" in general - this can be awkward).

For Japanese people beginning to learn English (or people translating English into Japanese), "brother" and "sister" can be uber-annoying.

  • That's true in Chinese too.

  • It is indeed, and I'm not sure if that's a cultural import from China or not. There are kun (put simply, "native Japanese") readings for the words, but that doesn't mean the concepts weren't borrowed. Then again, Japanese family relationships aren't overall NEARLY as difficult to express as in Chinese (where even native speakers sometimes have difficulty with the blue million words for aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and so on).

  • "A cherry..."

I love your The Fifth Element references. :P

  • I'm honestly surprised someone caught that tiny reference. It always makes me smile when someone does.

  • 9:16 i did not know that was there. -_-'

  • Me neither.

  • Ah Sabin, I've been looking forward to you getting him. Honestly I was expecting you to kill him with a certain "wave" like Blitz technique, if you know what I mean. Complete with a clip from a certain popular anime. ;)

  • I'm pretty sure only Pummel triggers the event of Vargas dying. The hadoken-move didn't work, at least.

  • pause at 1:33 as sabin finishs his attack... lol

  • I like it too, it's an awesome theme.

Yah he's talking about the Pandora's box...

Of course she is joining... otherwise the would be no game... riiiight?

  • Sabin and another guy named after colour are my favourite characters in the game.

And why the heck do I not know about the secret passages, Faris can't help me there!

  • umm hc dont take this the worng way but i have a twin and i am older by like a minute soo yea

  • there are even "Twins" that are born on separate days, depending on the time that they are born late night on August 25th and early morning on August 26

  • Pfft, forget that... a quick websearch reveals that the record delivery interval for twins is at least 93 DAYS.

  • ...That... sounds just... impossible! Can you link me that information from a reliable source?

  • No. YouTube doesn't allow linking. :P

But looking up "straight dope twins interval" should get you there. The original article is apparently from the November 1998 issue of The American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

  • I don't think it's possible to beat Vargas without using the Blitz (well, maybe if you used a Game Genie code and got Terra to level 99 at the beginning of the game..) I like that HC shows that part of the battle, though, when he could have just done the Blitz and explained it to us afterwards.

In Japan, Sabin's special was called "Hissatsu Waza" or "Certain Kill Technique", so I'm not sure how Woolsey came up with Blitz; maybe he was watching a football game..

  • lol! football distraction from the woosley.

  • Blitz has multiple definitions. One of them is:

"a sudden, vigorous attack, originally in war. "

So, yeah, they wanted a short command name that basically meant "smashing the heck out of your opponent."

  • Oh, it definitely fits; it's one of the best translations Woosley made in this game..though fortunately, unlike what it might imply, you don't have to enter the input really quickly which is great considering how long some of the later Blitzes can get.

  • true, but for some reason it's still called Pandora's Box

i don't really get it either but like i said before that's just what i always thought Banon was talking about.

  • actully one could be big brother by a matter of minutes or seconds lol

  • i'm sure that there are many versions of pandora's box but Banon is talking about the greek mythological pandora's box imo

  • When I first played this one, I got killed by Vargas 2 times because he killed me prior to the blitz explanation. I also did not know about other techniques until the about half way through the game after a event that happens.

  • from wikipedia:

In Greek mythology, Pandora's box is the large jar (πιθος pithos) carried by Pandora (Πανδώρα) that unleashed many evils on mankind ills, toils and sickness and hope.[1]

  • Genji Gloves are a great choice!

Whats with that piece of paper I did not know of that secret before.

  • SCRAP OF PAPER? Are you kidding me? What else do I NOT know about this game? Ha!

I think this game is part of how I came to think that control was one of the seven deadly sins. Although it's not too hard to argue that it kinda is.

Lastly, I love that Sabin has a sense of humor. You'd think he'd be like this badass mother G.I. Joe, and he's just a normal, down-to-Earth kind of dude.

  • I have the advance version and the blitz techniques lately don't like me. What I mean is I hit blitz and I insert the right buttons in order to use it, but sometimes it doesn't work anyway. Its really a pain. Has anyone else had that problem?

  • I've had that problem, I seem to have better luck with Sabins Hadoken-input, so I tend to use that. I just tried it because I didn't remember the Pummel input, and bam, I had 3 blitzes on my list :P Don't know if the game supplies you with those combos right away or not, but... it's the HADOKEN!... sorta.

  • You're probably going to do a lot of videos with "Blitz" in the title, right?

Like "Blitzkrieg Bop" or "Ballroom Blitz."

  • I think I know the best place to apply the name "Ballroom Blitz", aswell :P It requires actually choosing to use Sabin at that point, but still...
