Yeah, it was a rather odd thing for him to say "anything can happen. I might get hit by a car or something". True. Not to say that it will possibly happen BUT the fact that he's now in the showbiz, there are a lot of crazy things that could throw his life into a whirlwind of disastrous events. Maybe he was referring to Princess Diana whose life ended in a tragic car accident. Just one of the pros and cons of being in the public eye. I just hope that he stays true to his beliefs.

Several people have asked me for the report that David's dad, Jeff, was arrested for using a prostitute. Just Google "jeff archuleta prostitute" or look at the link below. So much for being a good Mormon and good dad. Geez you'd think that he worried about embarrassing poor David and the effect on the entire family.

As for the divorce, Archies parents were a bit rocky for a long time, and Jeffs incident had nothing to do with it. As for him being a stage dad like Micheal Jacksons, his fathers supported him through and through. That doesnt make him a bad guy.

The problem is that mindless Archie fans were saying how perfect the family was, and that Jeff was faultless. That's why these events matter. As or his father's support, of course he supported Archie -- because he was the family's meal ticket, and gave the family fame. That doesn't mean Jeff didn't apply inappropriate pressure.

In the divorce, Jeff asked his wife for child support, suggesting that he's dirt poor, and probably used David as a source of income. After barely selling 60,000 copies of his 2nd album, David lost his contract this year and is now considering college. That's probably the best thing for him, to escape Jeff and learn to be on his own.

@smilychickXD Jeff is dirt poor. He asked his ex-wife for child support , which isn't really acceptable in sexist Mormonism. He was a jazz trumpeter who had virtually gigs. Basically, his entire focus was on managing David, whose career is failing -- hence he has little or no income. Supporting his kid? Hardly, unless you say that Joe Jackson also "supported" Michael. It was more like maintaining his sole source of income. David was uspporting Jeff, not the other way around.

I've thought about Archie a lot because of Michael Jackson's death. Many think that his stage father Joe stunted Michael's emotional growth, which screwed up his psyche. We all know the outcome.
Let's hope that Jeff doesn't also mess up Archie's growth. Those who think Jeff is great guy obviously ignore that he was recently arrested for using a prostitute. Google it for more info.

That's really fucking sad. David is such a sweet kid and I would hate to think that he has a rough family life. I mean, I hate that anyone has a rough family life. But seeing how sweet and kind and caring of a person David is just breaks my heart. He has such a light about him.
Short of converting to Mormonism, there isn't any way to support him. The real question is whether missionary work is good for him and several experts say no. The reason is simple: There is a lot of rejection, especially if you go to big US cities like NY. I've seen violent reaction from NYers who don't like people following them around to convert them (see the PBS documentary, The Mormons). Mormons are disliked by some Christians. Can Archie's psyche can take such rejection well?

I'm researching Archuleta for an upcoming book so I've been following these conversations for months. What amazes me is why some people would confuse criticism for Jeff as a "slam" against David. In the description, for example, I read compliments and concern for Archie. Is concern a bad thing? And no one said that Jeff was evil, merely that he applies too much pressure, as do most "stage parents." This was Exec Producer Nigel Lythgoe's opinion, hence the barring of Jeff from auditions.

No. He is only stating what is the truth, and the truth is that Jeff is not an abusive father from what I've realized. I am a fan who follows very much on the videos and life of David, and when he is trying not to say what he really means sometimes, he tends to shy away. But I've seen his bluntly and openly come out and say his father is NOT abusive.

I've been researching Archuleta for several monts, which includes reading YouTube posts. Not once did I see anyone questioning his "mental stability." And questioninng his dad's attitude is completely fair since it's part of what makes David. As long as we're being honest, and willing to accept the good and the bad, questions are fine.

xnyheartx22, I'm a pediatric nurse with experience in developmental psychology. Archuleta is definitely behind in socialization skills as compared to other 17 y/o's. Compare him with other 17 y/os who were on Idol, i.e Jordin Sparks, Kevin Corvais, Sanjaya Malakar -- even though they had much less exposure (Archie was on Star Search).

Have you actually met David Archuleta personally? Or have you seen his video blogs? He acts completely normal in them...I really do think in his case it is just a matter of being shy and his personality. Nothing else. I suggest you personally meet him before making any judgements about him.

Video blogs are rehearsed, scripted and edited. If something goes wrong, it's re-done. In fact, his management company must approve them. Are you seriously using them to judge a person? Are job and college interviews done via pre-recorded videos or are they done live? Which is a more accurate way to measure a person's TRUE capabilities?
Why use the absolutist superlative "completely" when you only have one example? By saying "completely untrue," you contend that NONE of his vlogs are scripted. Can you prove that?
Interesting that you ignored the other two adjectives: rehearsed and edited. Can you PROVE that they weren't done? Finally, can you deny that the videos had to be approved? How do you KNOW how many videos were rejected because he appeared witless?
Read Archuleta's exact quote in the EW article. He said that he couldn't find the words to express himself. He was in a small rehearsal room with a few musicians and his dad. That's not just shyness.
And if it's shyness, then he needs professional help because his career will involve many more days of being in those situations. If a 17 y/o often needs his dad to express his thoughts, something is not normal. Ask any child psychologist.
That EW article is insinuating certain things about Jeff Archuleta, who when spoken to seems like a normal father, proud of his kid. The person who wrote that does not know his father personally and therefore has no right to say that he is a "demanding emotionally abusive father..." just because they heard stories about him, which by the way, have been stated false by David himself, David Cook, and other Idols...I'm not saying that I necessarily believe them, but I don't believe this either.

Yeah, it was a rather odd thing for him to say "anything can happen. I might get hit by a car or something". True. Not to say that it will possibly happen BUT the fact that he's now in the showbiz, there are a lot of crazy things that could throw his life into a whirlwind of disastrous events. Maybe he was referring to Princess Diana whose life ended in a tragic car accident. Just one of the pros and cons of being in the public eye. I just hope that he stays true to his beliefs.

Several people have asked me for the report that David's dad, Jeff, was arrested for using a prostitute. Just Google "jeff archuleta prostitute" or look at the link below. So much for being a good Mormon and good dad. Geez you'd think that he worried about embarrassing poor David and the effect on the entire family.

As for the divorce, Archies parents were a bit rocky for a long time, and Jeffs incident had nothing to do with it. As for him being a stage dad like Micheal Jacksons, his fathers supported him through and through. That doesnt make him a bad guy.

@smilychickXD According to our local news and the police report, he was linked to the woman. He even admitted that he made a mistake in interviews. The problem is that mindless Archie fans were saying how perfect the family was, and that Jeff was faultless. That's why these events matter. As or his father's support, of course he supported Archie -- because he was the family's meal ticket, and gave the family fame. That doesn't mean Jeff didn't apply inappropriate pressure.

@smilychickXD I just searched the web and according to reports, Jeff pleaded "no contest" to the charges, and paid a $582 fine. That certainly suggest guilt. In the divorce, Jeff asked his wife for child support, suggesting that he's dirt poor, and probably used David as a source of income. After barely selling 60,000 copies of his 2nd album, David lost his contract this year and is now considering college. That's probably the best thing for him, to escape Jeff and learn to be on his own.

@smilychickXD Jeff is dirt poor. He asked his ex-wife for child support , which isn't really acceptable in sexist Mormonism. He was a jazz trumpeter who had virtually gigs. Basically, his entire focus was on managing David, whose career is failing -- hence he has little or no income. Supporting his kid? Hardly, unless you say that Joe Jackson also "supported" Michael. It was more like maintaining his sole source of income. David was uspporting Jeff, not the other way around.

And Jeff was nothing but a source of embarassment and distraction for David in Idol and after. What support??? I've thought about Archie a lot because of Michael Jackson's death. Many think that his stage father Joe stunted Michael's emotional growth, which screwed up his psyche. We all know the outcome.
Let's hope that Jeff doesn't also mess up Archie's growth. Those who think Jeff is great guy obviously ignore that he was recently arrested for using a prostitute. Google it for more info.
Jackson never forgave his father, as we saw from his will. I hope Archie and Jeff never reach that point.

Short of converting to Mormonism, there isn't any way to support him. The real question is whether missionary work is good for him and several experts say no. The reason is simple: There is a lot of rejection, especially if you go to big US cities like NY. I've seen violent reaction from NYers who don't like people following them around to convert them (see the PBS documentary, The Mormons). Mormons are disliked by some Christians. Can Archie's psyche can take such rejection well?

I agree 100%. It's clear from eyewitnesses and words of both Nigel Lithgoe and David himself that his father stifles his expression and emotional growth. See my video description.
We need only look at Michael Jackson and his father Joe to see a possible tragic outcome. Jackson was emotionally stunted, and completely screwed up. Jackson never forgave his father, as we saw from his will.

I think he meant that it was weird that people are interested in his religion. He is definitely Mormon. Larry King Show, asked, "Did you know that a study found that Mormons are more likely to win these reality shows?" Archie replied, "Apparently, not this one!" As always, he didn't realize how funny his comment was but everyone else had a good laugh.

I'm researching Archuleta for an upcoming book so I've been following these conversations for months. What amazes me is why some people would confuse criticism for Jeff as a "slam" against David. In the description, for example, I read compliments and concern for Archie. Is concern a bad thing? And no one said that Jeff was evil, merely that he applies too much pressure, as do most "stage parents." This was Exec Producer Nigel Lythgoe's opinion, hence the barring of Jeff from auditions.

What did you expect him to say? I have domestic abuse training and victims, especially children, almost never outwardly say I'm abused. That's why authorities rely on witness reports. And also, just because some parents might pressure their kids in the show business doesn't mean that every single one of them will do it. No. He is only stating what is the truth, and the truth is that Jeff is not an abusive father from what I've realized. I am a fan who follows very much on the videos and life of David, and when he is trying not to say what he really means sometimes, he tends to shy away. But I've seen his bluntly and openly come out and say his father is NOT abusive.

I've been researching Archuleta for several monts, which includes reading YouTube posts. Not once did I see anyone questioning his "mental stability." That's not the issue. Most parents want success for their children. The question is whether the actions they take are appropriate. Some observers with expertise in show business say that Archie's father was inappropriate. Read what Naomi Judd and Nigel Lithgow said. Hence, Exec Producer Lithgow banned his dad from the rehearsal area.

There are interviews on here where he's well spoken...seems socially fine, seems like a normal 17 year old...so I just don't get what all of the commotion is about.

Once again, you're making the statistical mistake of assuming that a condition is constant. No one ever claimed that he's unable to ever be "normal." He can sometimes be outgoing just as an alcoholic can sometimes be sober.

I really don't think his dad has anything to do with it. He's a nice kid. He's shy to a certain point but he can obviously go out and entertain crowds night after night...have you seen his own youtube videos...he's really not all that shy at all. Polite, nice, greatful...yes, but there's nothing wrong with him like you're insinuating.

xnyheartx22, I'm a pediatric nurse with experience in developmental psychology. Archuleta is definitely behind in socialization skills as compared to other 17 y/o's. Compare him with other 17 y/os who were on Idol, i.e Jordin Sparks, Kevin Corvais, Sanjaya Malakar -- even though they had much less exposure (Archie was on Star Search).

Read the EW article. Skills don't develop normally if someone is constantly making decisions for you.

Have you actually met David Archuleta personally? Or have you seen his video blogs? He acts completely normal in them...I really do think in his case it is just a matter of being shy and his personality. Nothing else. I suggest you personally meet him before making any judgements about him.

Video blogs are rehearsed, scripted and edited. If something goes wrong, it's re-done. In fact, his management company must approve them. Are you seriously using them to judge a person? Are job and college interviews done via pre-recorded videos or are they done live? Which is a more accurate way to measure a person's TRUE capabilities?

Interesting that you ignored the other two adjectives: rehearsed and edited. Can you PROVE that they weren't done? Finally, can you deny that the videos had to be approved? How do you KNOW how many videos were rejected because he appeared witless?

Read Archuleta's exact quote in the EW article. He said that he couldn't find the words to express himself. He was in a small rehearsal room with a few musicians and his dad. That's not just shyness.
And if it's shyness, then he needs professional help because his career will involve many more days of being in those situations. If a 17 y/o often needs his dad to express his thoughts, something is not normal. Ask any child psychologist.

That EW article is insinuating certain things about Jeff Archuleta, who when spoken to seems like a normal father, proud of his kid. The person who wrote that does not know his father personally and therefore has no right to say that he is a "demanding emotionally abusive father..." just because they heard stories about him, which by the way, have been stated false by David himself, David Cook, and other Idols...I'm not saying that I necessarily believe them, but I don't believe this either.
