  • His words still give me chills every time I hear him speak.

  • Cosmos should certainly be remade. Brian Cox would do well, but maybe he is too young at the moment. The brilliant music of Vangelis featured quite heavily in the series. Infact the theme tune to Cosmos is by Vangelis. I have the album on CD of the music of Cosmos, and rank it very highly in my collection. I love the warm tone to Sagans voice. Someone once said that religion has short changed the world. I am glad i am on the side of truth, such as evolution and the Big Bang. Thanks for reading.

  • @The2001002 I couldn't tell from your comment, but you know they are making a sequel series with Neil Degrasse Tyson hosting. Also Brian Cox is like 43

  • If you think that Degrasse Tyson wont do the new "Cosmos" justice, you haven't watched enough videos of him yet.

  • I still dream of hugging this man..

  • I wish there were more public optimistic scientists like Carl today.

  • such an amazing man. Inclusive, understanding and a teacher. Science is for everyone and he broke it down for the layman.

  • six monkeys did not understand, yet they understand how to use the thumb.

  • Sagan was a good man

  • Average Global Temperatures SPIKED +0.6C (+1.08 degrees F) since 1975.

Summer Arctic Sea Ice has dropped -50% since 1980.

Since 1950 atmospheric CO2 has spiked +30% over highest levels in 400,000+ years.

CO2 Ocean Acidification is up +30% since 1900!

  • Sadly the ‘powers that be’ seen intent upon a war between the Christians with the Jews against the Muslins, it’s almost as if now the Russians are not longer threating the West we need a new (or is it a very old?) enemy, let’s hope and pray that we live up to Sagan’s hopeful and peaceful vision and that it does not come to pass.

  • As much as I respect Neil deGrasse Tyson, I don't know if he can fill in the shoes of Carl Sagan in the new series.

  • 1:17

Why did he refer to light years as a measurement of time? :/ I'm kinda confused

  • @xBlake4 He said we have "light years to go," meaning we still have a huge distance to cover. Like saying we have miles and miles to go; so he was using light years correctly as a measure of distance.

  • @Lemmy15

Ah, makes sense. thanks for clarifying.

  • lol i think carl would have made a better agent smith they sound alike lol rip carl

there are so few outspoken people like him all we have is dawkins and krauss and harris and not for long hitchens

  • RIP carl

  • FUCK MONETARY VALUES LETS HUG:*(

  • Carl Sagan will be missed, one of the most important people of the 20th Century. Had a postive impact on my life, and will be remembered and talked about by civilizations to come...

  • if carl seen our world today, i think he would cry. r.i.p. carl

  • @stinkbugist I'd very much like to hear what Carl Sagan would have to say about the world today, and especially the terrorism situation

  • @Zando24 hard to say, he would probly be disgusted about all sides of terrorism including the way we handle it.

  • R.I.P.

  • he always looked at this planet in the best possible way, i drew a picture of him and im getting it tattooed.

  • I admire him for his stand against religion , and he may still be proven wrong on the environment ( lots of it is junk science ), but how sad that he was so wrong about enemy s working together .

  • I never attention to Carl Sagan before died. I only really found out about him a few years ago.

Why am I still sad that he's not with us anymore?

  • Carl Sagan had such an incredible talent for profound speech. I hang on the balance of each word that comes from his mouth.

  • Ah Sagan. I love listening to his philosophy, if only he was alive today. We could sure use his help.

  • this guy and dwakins inspire me to do sumthink great

  • QQ does anyone else cry everytime this man talks?

  • @physicsisssfun Totally,and i'm a grown man! ...

  • @physicsisssfun

Yes...like a baby! What an amazing human being. I wish people would WAKE UP before it is too late.

  • @physicsisssfun Almost cried on this one.. We have a legitimate choice, let's not be dicks on this one.

  • How bitterly disappointed Dr.Sagan would be now, to see how many backward steps we've made since his death....

  • @kilikadork Fine. Move along now.

  • @kilikadork pffff, if Carl Sagan is not in heaven now, then I don't want to be there either. I would rather spend an eternity in hell next to earth's greatest atheists, than a second in heaven with the current christian leaders.

  • @kilikadork This isn't what he is speaking about. Christ said to love one another, Carl Sagan says the same. Carl Sagan has different theological beliefs than us, but when you look at it, it just comes back around to say that he cares about the Earth that God created more than the ones that say it was God-created.

  • @masterskyrunner Carl Sagan might have said the same thing as Jesus Christ, but one, Jesus Chris came first, and second believing on Carl Sagan won't get you to heaven. Only the Son of God can wash away your sins and make you righteous. Repent and have faith in him, and you will not be disappointed. Think long and hard about what I am about to say, "you will be dead LONGER than you are alive" think long and hard on that statement, and see what you find to be valuable in this world.

  • @kilikadork The people that post here are too smart to fall for your vicarious redemption promise for apple-eating sins caused by talking snakes. They are also too smart to fall for cheap scare tactics, praying on fear of death and torture. All religions are a load of unprovable crock, invented by primitive clueless stone age savages who wanted to live forever. Are you scared of evolution? You do know that evolution snuffs out the afterlife, don't you? No adam, no sin. No sin, no redemption.

  • @Kawabunga02 I am not using scare tactics, it is simply the truth. There is sin in the world it is obvious. Somehow people all over the world have a common understanding of what good and bad is, how? How is there a universal right or wrong if it comes from human minds. Because it humans decide, who do we ask right and wrong from, hitler? stalin? There has to be objective morals, the only was is a law giver, the creator. You will be dead longer than you are alive. Make sure you are right.

  • @kilikadork Why woud we ask the roman catholic Hitler for guidance? Or a communist psychopath like Stalin? I think the people that visit this channel would rather ask someone like Carl Sagan for guidance. Someone who had the best interest of mankind at heart, and who never fell for unprovable supernatural garbage. And btw, objective morality is BS. And you know it.

  • @kilikadork lol You're making it seem like the philosophy of Carl Sagan is like a bible and any one who agrees with it will be damned, even if they're Christian.

  • Holy jeeze.. Every Carl Sagan video I've seen has nothing but arguments about god.. Why can't anyone leave comments worth reading? Maybe some good words for arguably one of the greatest dudes to ever walk the face of the planet.. Who cares if he can't read it. Carl preached reality. He saw life for what it is, he didn't belittle anyone who tried to belittle him for his beliefs.. So maybe it's not a good idea to try to forcefeed your god to people who follow his work..

  • Who are the 4 morons that dislike this?

  • It was written in the cosmos, that one day, by pure chance.

Somebody, with immense wisdom, and intelligence, would be born. And he would light the way for his generation, and generations to come. Inspiring thousands.

And his name would not be Jesus, no.

    It would be, Carl Sagan.

  • I believe in God and not in science fiction guru's selling godlessness for their own fame and fortune to the godless audience out here hungry for hero's without substance.

  • @MegaSage007

Well, guess what, nobody gives a shit what you believe. Keep your stupid fucking religion to yourself if you have nothing worth while to add to the conversation.

  • @pbmdh If you are speaking for all of humanity, humanity is in trouble; but if you are speaking for yourself, you are in trouble.

  • @MegaSage007

    In your eyes only.

  • @pbmdh In the eyes of those who have eyes to see we know you are in trouble for the "wages of sin are death", but as far as your seeing it; you have eyes to see but do not see, and ears to hear but cannot hear. So you have a serious problem. You are dying from a spiritual disease called s i n and do not know it.

  • @MegaSage007

Wow, the childhood indoctrination must have really gotten to you. Go preach somewhere else. Or better yet, give me some evidence that what you babble about is true. (Hint: The bible doesn't qualify as evidence).

  • @pbmdh You are presumptuously speaking the slanders of Atheism against God and His people. You know nothing of how I obtained the Revelation of God. As to your childhood indoctrination, it certainly was lacking in good judgment.

  • @MegaSage007

What an ego you have. It's sad you people cant just keep your imaginary friend to yourself. Instead you need to preach bullshit over youtube on a video page about a person who would absolutely dismantle every one of your arguments.

  • @pbmdh Actually I have four active atheist videos you are welcome to visit if you wish to air out your differences with us and speak for the deceased. We are sure you have no evidence at all to support anything contrary to a created Universe. But you are welcome to put us to the test at IS ATHEISM LOGICAL?

  • @MegaSage007

"We are sure you have no evidence at all to support anything contrary to a created Universe." Burden of proof lies on the person making the claim. You claim that the universe was crated by the biblical god, now give some proof. And I mean physical, tangible proof.

I'll make it easy for you, you have none.

  • @pbmdh The finely tuned Universe is evidence of an Omnipotent Infinitely Wise Designer. You don't see it because you are spiritually blind and morally bankrupt.

  • @MegaSage007

    "We are here, therefor god".

Common logic from somebody who has listened to nothing but his parents and preacher.

  • @pbmdh "We are here, therefore the Universe created itself out of unintelligent matter/energy the Singuarlity cannot account for."

Common lack of logic for anyone who has studied godless science in class rooms where Creationist teachers and students were outlawed by law.

  • @MegaSage007

"We are here, therefore the Universe was created by god who was created by...........wait.........."

Oh, a creationist. There's no point to this conversation then. You are too far gone. You won't even try to test your own beliefs because you are most likely too scared to even try.

Although I know you are just trolling, there are REASONS that creationist crap is not allowed in (public) schools, because it isn't scientific, and the separation of church and state.

  • @pbmdh You relish the fact you were brainwashed?

  • @MegaSage007

LOL, a creationist telling me I was brainwashed? Hilarious. Actually no. I was raised in a semi-religious household that allowed me to think for myself if I choose to. I read and studied the bible (and other religious text like the Quran), and it is clearly bullshit. That's called THINKING FOR YOURSELF. I did the research on my own, to draw my OWN conclusions. I didn't have this irrational belief in some deity that you have never seen pounded into my head on a daily basis.

  • @pbmdh Glad you enjoyed the joke you are playing on yourself. It might be the only fun you ever get in eternity. So you read the holy Book with a wicked heart and it didn't make sense to your godless mindedness and you are boasting of not having received the Revelation of God a billion others have received from the Lord. Now what you call thinking for yourself has made you a servant of the Devil whether you believe in him or not; you are all his without a shield of faith to defend against him.

  • @MegaSage007 And you see it because you were taugth to believe in imaginary friends.

  • @rockr4ever12 Atheism teaches you to believe in your imaginations. God teaches us to "taste of the Lord and know he is good." So we have the "peace that passes all understanding" at times while you are sunk down into your miserable self.

  • This man was amazing. So sad that he past =(

  • Sagan really aged poorly, it's amazing that he looks 30 years older than when the show was made here. I dunno if it was the pot use or bad genetics or something, but it's sad.

I like this one because it's his most agnostic. I feel at the end he probably opened his mind more towards a higher meaning than he had before. That happens to a lot of people as things wind down.

  • @Monty22001

You fucking kid, right? Wikipedia spoon feeds a new generation with such an easy and quick access to information, it pains me to realize that apparently there's an abundance of people immune to curiosity.

  • @Monty22001 You do realize he was diagnosed with a deadly and rampant cancer, right?

  • I would just like everyone to know that Jacque Fresco Has been working on accomplishing Sagans dreams all his life. Check out the Venus Project!

  • I think if Carl was around today he would both hang his head in shame at the fact that we continue on doing so many things we know are wrong, yet also be wide eyed in amazment at the incredible advances we have made and the knowledge of the cosmos we have discovered

  • what an idiot

  • @CharlesDARWINnn Why so?

  • I wonder what Sagan would think today? I have a feeling with all the stuff happening today, he'd hang his head in shame.

Regan had a chance to scale down the planet's nukes to almost zero..but he failed to do so.

I only hope one day world leaders will get a chance to demilitarize like Regan did. That chance may never come again...

  • I surelly would have voted Carl Sagan for world president

  • perhaps.

  • Proud? Proud of the scientific elite? Ha. Carl Sagan is like the Bruce lee of astronomy. He would look at today's bullshit money driven tech tree and vomit.

  • You know when someone asks you the "if you could pick anyone to have dinner with" question? I now know the answer.

  • He was such a Jedi :'(

  • such a bad ass

  • My question to humanity is how we let things get the way they are. How did we let places like the Middle East become such a hell hole? Why spend trillions of dollars fighting wars when we can spend a fraction trying to prevent them? I think this question needs to be answered to improve life on our planet.

  • @gamingsoul11 if i knew i would tell you, sadly i don't.

  • MY HERO!

  • It greatly saddens me that this great man is dead. Hopefully there is another amongst us now, who will be as wise and as great as he was.

  • @harryperdition Hey, Stephen Hawking is still alive... surprisingly. That man has been working miracles for decades.

  • @DeathsWill228 this true, hes a miracle by just existing, doctors gave him 2 years to live when he was diagnosed ages ago.

  • @harryperdition I guess determination and a purpose is beneficial to health.

  • 3:10 onward - we still face those choices today.Which of these two paths will we choose? Will we use science for good,or for evil? These are the only two choices set before us today.

  • Choose life,so that you and your descendants may live....

  • Carl SAGAN, iS .everything he just sai..., EVERYTHING1

  • anyone else think Carl would be disappointed in 2010? I do, sadly...

  • @rounder421

I think he'd be proud that the scientific elite have advanced as far as they have and that the general public haven't blown themselves up. i'd be proud if i was carl sagan because the breakthroughs in science and astronomy are just amazing compared with just 2 decades ago.

  • If you dislike this video....you are BEYOND help

  • Add to Favorites.

  • hehe 1:15 We have lightyears to go ^^

  • So I don't wanna sound like a dumb ass, but would it be unreasonable to take the most uninhabitable places of the world, and PURPOSELY induce a minor nuclear winter - if global warming got bad enough? (obviously we'd have to consider radiation travel to ensure we don't wipe out a civilization XD)

    ....Just saying. lol

  • @TheCikedo a nuclear winter is global, it isn't localised to any one area of earth, in the meanwhile the sky will be scorched, and no or very little light will come through decimating all outdoor crops, causing the animals to die off. humanity wouldn't necessarily die off, but it would be reduced to little more than tribes of nomadic scavengers.

  • ever since i read that quote from the club of romes book "the first global revolution" on how they created the idea of global warming. i just cant take this mass media portrayal of a looming crisis seriously.

by the way here is the quote "In searching for a new enemy to unite us, we came up with the idea that pollution, the threat of global warming, water shortages, famine and the like would fit the bill

By the way the Club of Rome is just a think tank that works with the U.N look it up

  • @xterrorizinboys88 There's no debate as to whether significant global warming is occurring within the scientific community. The only debate remaining (to a degree) is to what extent humanity plays a causal role.

  • @AleximusMaximus i hear ya man. idk the human race has only been documenting things for what like 20,000 years now maybe. and science is always saying how the earth has been around for billions of years so 20000 compared to billion is a huge difference ans a short period of time. climate change on the earth is common says scientists.so idk how i can buy this mass media stuff. just simply cause everything contradicts itself.Idk man the book A brave new world is starting to look like non fiction

  • @xterrorizinboys88 dude, yeh. Fuck the media, they've always misrepresented science in the most gross way. Check out science journals about it or something. That's your best bet for finding out what we do know, *and* what we don't.

  • Scientists should be in charge of our tiny planet! Not idiotic politicians!

  • This is the sort of common sense you don't hear from misguided and blabbering religious nuts.

  • This should be Obama's next speech. Simply copy and paste!

  • I swear every time I discover someone new and awesome, (Bill Hicks, Carl Sagan) I find out they're dead. And then I turn on the TV and Paris Hilton lives another day.

  • @TheBiddleMan You're not the only one who feel that way, my friend.

  • @TheBiddleMan

Consider the amount of effort these people put into life. There's a reason why closeted flesh-wastes tend to live longer than those who make an actual impact on the world.

  • @TheBiddleMan - Her time will come too. We all enter this life owing a death. When she's gone she will not be remembered by anyone. This is the simple thing that seperates people like her, from great beings like Carl Sagan.

  • @TheBiddleMan

I hear you there... how is Lady Gag better than Sagan?

  • @dlrion wrap your head around this...

I like both Lady Gaga AND Carl Sagan :)

  • @TheBiddleMan SAME HERE. Most of the awesomely brilliant people are long gone

  • @TheBiddleMan Check out Jaques Fresco, still alive, but not for long- he is in his mid 90's! He is a genius who worked with Einstein in the 40's. His ideas for civilization are revolutionary, for sure.

  • @mikemfd232 i love that man , just saw the new zeitgeist.

  • @TheBiddleMan hahaha rejoice! . The Hitch still lives!

  • @flumberg

some christian -God gave you cancer

Hitch- So it has nothing to do with smoking a pack a day for most of my life?

  • @tictactoechicken123 hahaha i love watching stupid christians

  • @flumberg

oh yeah, he told the Christian to thank his God for putting his cancer into remission

  • @tictactoechicken123 hahahahahah

  • @TheBiddleMan Maan, I've gone though this exact same phase. Bill Hicks, Carl Sagan AND George Carlin.

  • @TheBiddleMan I get your point. Paris Hilton is fucking immortal.

  • @TheBiddleMan life is cruel to those who embrace it most

  • @TheBiddleMan You just said in words what I was feeling.... , this is the world humans lived in, living in... focussing not on the intelligence but the vanity. at least you saw it 4 months before me!

  • @TheBiddleMan George Carlin died about two weeks after I discovered him. So I know how you feel.

  • @TheBiddleMan Look up Jacque Fresco and the Venus Project you might like what you see.

  • @TheBiddleMan I know these are great men that have passed, but like the life you hold will pass, don't think how one day you won't have it. Think about that about how you were gifted to have it all.

  • @Herv3 Really felt where you were coming from there.

  • @TheBiddleMan So so true

  • @TheBiddleMan bill hicks such a great thinker (comedic as well as philosophy). Its a shame more people dont know about him.

  • @TheBiddleMan Ugh, I know! also Richard Feynman.

  • @TheBiddleMan haha weird, I just had that exact thought (with bill hicks and sagan) and then I clicked on this suggestion and bang the highest comment was yours :)

  • @TheBiddleMan I completely aggree all these fdantastic smart intellectual people who do give a dam die young and these whores are more idalised than these fantastic minds... what the fuck is wrong with people?

  • i had to pause this to stop my mind blowing

  • honestly those four dislikes have to be by accident

  • The N.W.O.'s lackey/wacky-Leninist Chrissy Hitchens' red-herring, non-issues cater to America's analphabetic, pants-dragging, tattooed legions of 20-something nincompoops. He's NEVER endorsed the Constitution in any substantive way. He's NEVER said an ill word in regards to the Fed's shenanigans & the trillions of dollars that they've absconded with. The U.S. is plunging headlong into receivership as Hitchens bleats about Mother Teresa, Jerusalem Slim's divinity & Jerry Falwell.

  • @ThePregnancySlaves you are wrong on this point. He makes many references in his video series of the problems of slavery, war, conquering, ignorance, etc etc but with a historical view. He is a scientist with a conscience, the rarest kind there is. It is not his job to get involved in politics but if you watch his whole series as I have you will see he is pro life. So if you are against these issues then protest them, and let sagan stick to the science.

  • Carl Sagan is my best souvenir

  • Men who seek god-hood for themselves (elitists) lay the foundation for destruction. All the atrocities visited upon us, the only significant life-form of Earth, have been executed by men emulating the atheism that defines the animal kingdom. Atheism is synonymous with barbarism, with jungle law, with anarchy. The inquisitors who subjected their brethren to the rack and the iron maiden were emulating the game a house cat plays with a rodent: slow torture till death.

  • @ThePregnancySlaves When you shoot up, do you prefer the arm or neck?

  • @Azisien : How long have you lived on the streets?

  • @Azisien Stop wasting your breath. Some people will never see the truth presented in the evidence and facts. Which is mainly what Carl Sagan talked about; The truth presented through the evidence and facts.

  • @ThePregnancySlaves

    Hypocrisy know no bounds

Religion, irreligion, it's all the same nothing really is better. Just whatever helps you face your own life and 'sins'.

  • It is sad to witness the reactions a clip like this arouses in certain individuals. The spell of hope and peace it created was immediately shattered... Although he did close up with a troubling question.

  • still sexy

  • He makes me want to sleep..

    Speak..v.e.r.y s l o w l y

  • I hope Carl knew how much he meant to people.

  • The world could sure use a lot more "Carls"...

  • Too bad the Israelis an Palestinians continue to f--k up his intro ...

  • Comment removed

  • i wish he was our president right now :(

  • @49128

you're out of your mind..we have no choice but to fly around the cosmos and figure out how to colonize our solar system..it's our only chance at survival..there's this litle term called over population.

  • @49128 Are you wasting money? If no then don't complain

  • @49128 Also I know its a low blow but so's your Face lol

  • we waste money

  • he should of been president

  • @49128 You can barely structure a sentence and yet you have the audacity to insult one of the greatest intellectuals ever to have existed? When I have scientists like Sagan providing me with intelligent and well informed information and the best you can produce is regurgitated, non-factual and disrespectful youtube comments, I continue to be assured that I am correct in my decision to regard science as vastly more valuable than any religion. Clearly it is you that is talking baloney sausage.

  • @49128 And with regards to peace on Earth via religion, you are clearly deluded and poorly educated about the history of the world leading up to your own (unfortunate) existence. For thousands of years, the main source of suffering and needless bloodshed have been as a result of religious conflict. Personally, I would much prefer a planet inhabited by Carl Sagans than one inhabited by any of the 40 plus Biblical authors, any Pope from history, any Crusader, martyr or even Jesus himself.

  • @eizy66 Comment of the month. :)

  • @49128 What lie?

  • @kerrylsmith is this man talking through his elbows..sort of out of his arse maybe. hes proud and know it all. give us all a break. a lot of hot air. he should have put his money where his mouth was. he has martian dust in his brain.

  • @49128 I second that emotion...

  • @49128 what lie would that be?

  • @49128, please do tell what the lie is.

  • @49128 people, I give you the 8th wonder of the world, CHRISTIAN KONG!!! RAAAAAAWWWWWWWWRRRRR!!!!!!

  • He is my Idol.

  • Carl Sagan will be truly missed <3

  • Wow, Carl and I sure seem to have similiar ideas.

  • people idolize spots enterainers and rapper for idiotic reasons. if they can truely comprehend and appreciate this man they would be one step ahead

  • carl sagan reflects

  • Carl Sagan was/is incredibly inspirational. We should have made him president. He was our only hope.

  • My favorite human being who ever existed.
