I I just bought the N130. It seems pretty responsive, Windows 7 has not so much as disapointed me quite yet. But in terms of overall responsiveness and speed would an upgrade to 2gb help me out much here?
Samsung N110 is identical. For me, if I pry open the right side first, then the left side was easier to come up.
Also, I suggested that the user remove the battery first. It is not needed, but, keeps you from accidently keeping power to unit or in standby mode, when your fingers are handling the electronics.
Ah, I really wanted the blue one, but ended up with the N110 due to barely larger track pad and battery life. Looking at TaskManager, I haven't reach the 1gb mark yet, so, for me, I can't say it has helped. I have only had it about 2 weeks now. (Right now, I have movie maker, excel 2007, word 2007, picasa, skype running). Right now, it is 55% cpu, and ram is 420mb. Its meant to be ultra portable (meetings, park, etc), and are not my main tools.
Oh yeah, to add to my comment......for those of you who are not used to laptops, you should remove the battery first before removing old memory and installing the new memory.
can i do this first thing when i get my laptop? is there programmaing you do before or after you put it in? or do you just put it in like you showed and thats it?
You do not need to do anything before you do this. However I would suggest you at least start it up first to be sure all is well before you upgrade, just in case. I started mine once, then shut it down and upgraded immediately with no ill effects.
Hi.... Please tell me, can this laptop handle 800Mhz ram or even higher ? because that would be a huge advantage... 1 gb more RAM + an increase at the clock speed!!.... also, is all brands compatible? Corsair, kingston, geil, crucial ect ?
The MSI Wind and Asus models are very safe to overclock with advanced sytem options allowing it, but there is very little info about overclocking the NC10's Atom 1.6GHz up to 2 or 2.2. The main issue that I have read about is that it increases the temperature that the CPU runs at - and netbooks run hot! However I dont know why it is possible with the WIND etc as they use the same processor. I would be interested to learn if anyone has managed it yet! Not willing to risk it on my baby tho :)
Great video - thanks for posting. You made it look real easy... and having tried myself, indeed it is!
You do need to be quite firm getting the small cover/hatch off the back. There's two little tabs either side and I managed to bend one of them - but not to worry, the screw keeps it firmly in place.
Also used a phillips screwdriver (UK spec NC10) and had no problems.
I agree with madeup - in addition to the screw - there are small "slotting" tabs at the other end for seating the hatch, and on the left and right mid-points there's little tongued tabs.
I expected the cover to pop right off, but I had to get a small knife in and apply some leverage on the left and right - GENTLY - to pop the tongued tabs.
Just to be aware of it if you're doing this. Otherwise, the Crucial 2 GB I got from NewEgg booted right up and is humming along.
so i should buy 2gb DDR2 667MHz stick. how do i know if its laptop ram when buying over then net. what should it cost? i found them for 30 dollar, but that seems to cheap, or not?
The memory used in this video is Kingston KVR667D2S5 2G ValueRAM 2GB 667MHz PC5300 DDR2 200pin SODIMM. This was purchased from Play at £14.99 so your $30 sounds about right!
To call it 'fatal' may be a little harsh, especially as the official user guide that arrives with the NC10 does not specifiy which type of screwdriver is required. However, my (UK) edition does not look like a Pozidriv screw because it doesnt have the embossed lines on the screw head at 45 degrees to the slots that usually identifies it as such.
Furthermore, as long as you are careful, like me, you should not have any trouble opening it on the single occassion that you perform the upgrade.
I got a question. Where could I Get a 2GB Ram for the NC10 ? But not online.

Are there any noticeable benefits with upgrading to 2gb of Ram with this net book, performance wise. I have the blue one , by the way.

F2 not needed, start up as usual, go to "Computer" and then to "System Information", it will tell you how much memory is installed.
Cheers!
