L4D(2) has the "wrong" version of Source Engine, it's too new. Zombie panic uses the original HL2 Source Engine. Could be even Orange Box Source Engine nowadays, haven't played it in a loooong time.

Best melees (I think) are the Sledge Hammer, and Machette. Average ones, are Crowbar, Kitchen Pots (I'm pretty sure there are 2-3 different ones) and I think the regular hammer is pretty good. The Keyboard and Chair don't do a lot of damage but they can hit things fast. Wrench is probably worst. If you start with one, drop it to be faster and find a new melee. Just some advice.

There are some melee weapons, like crowbars, woodsticks and axes, also some chairs are possible to use, but them are hard to find (mostly).
