  • after watch ing this kats houston breakdown, this some fugly stuff.

  • U speak gay

  • omg Metta Worldpiece!!!!!!!!!!

  • Still want to see a breakdown of the only playoff team in the bottom defensive ranking: the Clippers.

  • KD gonna be beasting with the 1 footed fade away he is adapting from Dirk :)

  • It's not called the lakers system...

    It's called the Kobe System

  • coach turn the background music just a tad bit up a little bit. not too much just a lilll

    really hard to hear it!!

  • coach nick! are you gonna do a breakdown of the bulls and heat game yesterday???

  • Love the offensive breakdowns you're doing. I'd love even more if you did more defensive breakdowns later in the season.

  • CAN U DO A KNICKS VID PLEASZ

  • is mike brown a good coach? i didn't really like him when he was with the cavs and as a lakers fan was upset when the lakers hired him.

  • @hazohsiao personally i don't think he is a good offensive coach but defensively he is almost as good as coach Thibs. His offense ever since he was in Cleveland involves a lot of standing around, isos and random screen and roll. He should have retained more concepts of the triangle so that the most of the players know what they are doing.

  • coach can you breakdown the orlando magic offense and why they only scored under 30 in in the second half in two of the games that they played aginst boston ?

  • I'm going to get crucified for this, but I really didn't need to see that at 2:19.

  • Coach you still have yet to do the love/rubio video you said you might do last week. I think it be great to showcase an up and coming young team.

  • been waiting for this for AGES thanks coach nick :D

  • There's a reason why these guys are in the NBA.

  • Another good breakdown like usual coach

  • Hey Coach Nick, I think you are very dogmatic about your views and you criticize NBA players as if they are 5 year-olds playing in their backyard which in my opinion is very unprofessional. I'm not an expert but I know enough to realize that some of your criticism is not accurate and by that I mean you occasionally criticize players even when they do the right thing or do nothing wrong.

That is just what I thought about your analysis and I sincerely meant no disrespect.

    Thank you very much.

  • Hey coach, where do u think Dwight Howard will be playing next year?

    Thanx

  • Hey coach i want to know if its Kobe's fault that hes walking or is it just the basic offense that they are running?

  • Hey coach, is Pau Gasol really that bad on defense? I've always considered him- well, not a great defender, but good/solid.

  • Hi coach!Thx for vid...Which actually raises my doubts concerning Mike Brown's ability to tactically manage the Lakers in an efficient way. His last job with the Cavs didn't really do the job to convince me he was a brilliant tactician...I think Kobe should get more touches on the post, where he is almost deadly. And they really need a point guard....Greetings from France!Bonne journée et à la prochaine...

  • not all of the shots you said were bad. The last jumper by gasol was wide open and he makes that easily 80% of the time

  • @MrNothingButAir not really his game though. his shot is inconsistent because of his form, and its better to get gasol backing down in the post.

  • send this to the front office

  • @bballbreakdown coul you do a timberwolves offence how rubio has come into the team.

  • @MrOssi370 We definitely have a Rubio/Love breakdown planned ASAP!

  • Hey coach! What type of team do you like more: teams with superstars (Miami, Lakers, Boston...) or teams with a bunch of good players (Indiana, 76ers, Denver...)?

  • @yaomingau Great question. I think I may like a bunch of good players, since I like Denver and Indiana more than Lakers. I do like Boston, though - but their superstars are now just good players

  • Thought on Wizards future?

  • @LasseKBH Wizards will have to blow the team up, get some good draft picks, pick some older players who were in college for more than 1 year...

  • I don't see what's wrong with the shot at 5:51. It was a good position and he had ample time to get into his shooting stance with no defenders closing down on him.

  • @puppytigers There were still 6 seconds on the clock, it was a 20 footer from Pau, people are talking about how he can shoot from out there, but to me, since the offense was all out of sorts to begin with, that shot was the worst outcome from all that movement.

  • more great work! this reminds me of some of your vids from a couple seasons ago which really delve into the Xs and Os more, def some of my faves.

  • @Convisis Thanks! I hope you saw our Warriors breakdown previously...

  • Coach, I read a rumor that Howard might come to Boston and that he likes their system, because they can do it in playoffs. So what do you think would happen in Boston if he joined with rondo,kg and others?

    Champions or not?

  • @RocaWeaR4 Who are the Celtics giving up? I'm fairly certain they don't have the assets - unless it's a 3 team deal

  • @bballbreakdown I forgot to mention to sign him as free agent next season.

  • Heh, brick city

  • if u can improve pau's defense and the rest of the team's, excluding kobe, general game play, we got a championship team again!

  • @ihatewonders Not so sure... this year might be lost, no training camp, new coach, no time to get all his system in...

  • Once again, I am really happy to see a video from you :D

  • @Xxerict808xX Thanks! Stay tuned - don't miss our live chat on Sunday...

  • Why are the 76ers so good?

  • @azninvazn43

They have defense improved from last year and they don't slack off.

What is wonderful , is that they are young and getting better with each game.

  • THank you Nick for breaking down these games more often

  • @The2kboss No problem. We will get on a consistent schedule in the next few weeks...

  • Come to think about it....

every clipper game is looking like the same

the starters (most notably Chris Paul and Blake/Jordan) destroy the opposing team both Offensively and Defensively

the bench (notably Mo Williams) come in and ruin the lead, having no offensive firepower nor the ability to make stops

the starters come back in to try and win back the game

the Clippers are so shallow, and lack any system, both offensively and defensively which can sustain lead

  • bad coaching by both teams...

  • Mo Will definitely ruined the game for CP3

sure Paul was having an off night shooting wise, but he was setting up teammates for open shots the whole night

I get that Mo is the only guy with any offensive firepower from the bench

but his awful off-balanced shot(s) and that stupid flagrant foul cause them the game

    look at the +/- stat

    Mo was playing bad basketball

    "No Mo!!!"

they should trade Mo for a real shooting guard

  • Another very informative breakdown coach, thank you!

  • @dantheman9758 Thanks! Don't miss Sunday's chat after the Heat Bulls gm

  • 99% of the lakers play ends up with kobe running an iso

  • @dimedropper1992 Well, might not be 99, but pretty high..

  • KD is the best scorer in the NBA today.

  • c'mon man, quarter 1????? dudes just gettign warmed up

  • @mingyang Didn't see any other sets run in 2nd half...

  • @mingyang omg lohmingyang?

  • Lol the Clippers offense is:

    1. Pick and Roll

    2. Isolation

    3. Lobs

  • coach nick, what are the records of the teams youve coached? im curious.

  • @willardjfilmore Well, we've been up and down this year... Right now, it's 9-11 after a heartbreaking loss on Wednesday to a team we are much better than.

  • I think Kobe just stood around outside when Pau had the ball was because of like a basketball player kind of thinking, after playing with a teammate for years you just trust them to make the right play and score or draw a foul. Then again, it isn't a great excuse for Kobe to stand around lol

  • Kobe is not the best scorer in the game at this point in his career.

  • @NYBaller92 well he is leading the league in scoring....and if hes not the best than hes one of the best, also dont count him out, 33 is nothing he has a while left, and i think at this point we can call kobe one of the greatest to have ever played

  • @NYBaller92 Who can lead the league in PPG and reel off 4 straight 40 pt games. I don't else anyone else stepping up to the plate.

  • @kray97

Who else could score 40 in 4 straight? Do you want a short list or a long list? This is just off the top of my head. Lebron, Dirk, Durant, Monta Ellis, Melo, Wade, Rose. I'm sure even someone like Kevin Love is more than capable of doing that, if he took the amount of shots Kobe did.

He's averaging .9 more points than LeBron but shooting FIVE more shots per game. You honestly think that if LeBron had 5 more per game he wouldn't average .9 more PPG?

  • I think Kobe thinks sharing the ball means being passive which is why he just quote "stands around" when he dumps the ball to Bynum/Gasol and doesnt cut or etc. Go figure.

  • I thought that last shot by Gasol was a good shot since he's open and he makes a good amount from that range.

  • Comment removed

  • @thebigwarthog Still dont want your big man shooting too many long jumpers when hes so good in the post.

  • the problem with the lakers offense? look at kobe and his freezing out teammates. dude refuses to play within an offense, he is convinced that dribbling out the shot clock is better than creating for his teammates and getting good ball movement

  • Great video coach, I'm from LA and I was so excited for this video!

  • @eldrkzdrgn Thanks - lots more coming up...

  • can u do one on the bulls? they after the loss to the grizzlies they pass the ball around more and rose has less defense pressure on him. noah boozer r giving great passes to cutters and when they double team hamilton i always finds the man open. the bulls offense(recently and oftenly) look/are WAY a better offense from last year

  • @iAmTacoNinja23 For sure - we will do a Bulls offense breakdown ASAP. Thanks!

  • metta cant score inside or can he score mid range where else would u ask him to do run in the middle and not spread the defence for pau and bynum?

  • There was a lot more to breakdown, but u only broke things down from the 1st half. I would have liked to see the 2nd half broken down.

  • @NotoriousArab24 I didn't see too many other sets they ran in 2nd...

  • awesome video!

  • @timchoi95 Thanks, stay tuned for more!

  • artest looks lame with his new name, and in the plays coach nick picked, he looks even worse

  • Also with regards to defense...and your criticism of Gasol's defense. It's Mike Brown's decision to force the bigs to show and recover on the PnR. It's a questionable decision at best. Gasol is a lot more effective defensively if stays near the basket....showing and recovering often puts him in a bad position to defend the basket, and/or box out his man for the rebound. Same is true for Bynum.

  • @kray97 Showing on PnR itself isn't the problem. It can be very effective when done correctly with the right rotations. But Gasol is not very good at positioning himself and more often then not the guard splits the defense. The ONE thing in PnR you don't want to happen.

  • @kray97 Well, if you let the PG turn the corner, you're in for a world of trouble too. Pau can't jump stop so far away from the screen, giving so much room. I think he might be a lost cause on defense.

  • Lakers had their first full practice the day before this game. Lakers are veteran Triangle team with Triangle personnel trying to run a traditional offense....and without a real PG as well.

Why is their messy offensive execution surprising?

  • @kray97 I don't think it's surprising, but there are enough teams with the same coach and same system that makes them light years ahead of the Lakers, it's possible they don't catch up this season.

  • how the hell did the lakers win???

Oh i think u should do more heat or celtic breakdowns, love your channel though.

  • @theimmortal8265 We ran out of time to get to the game itself, unfortunately... stay tuned, we'll have lots more to come.

  • Why are the celtics doing so bad?

  • @yourfriendkelvin were too old we need a roster move ASAP

  • stop saying people are standing around. Everyone cant always move around. By standing on the 3 point line it stretches the defense

  • @minipham19 There is no offense devised (any good one at least) that will have a man stand in one spot for the entire possession. So I can't stop pointing that out... sorry.. ;0

  • stop saying people are standing around. Everyone cant always move around. By standing on the 3 point line it stretches the defense

  • @minipham19 lmao this 10yr old retard says "stretching the defence" for the sg aka the overrated trash kobe sidekick bryant as if u know some bball lol. hey retard that logi applies to pf or c cuz if the opposing pf or c go outside the paint u can either drive or grab offensive rebound. that's why when the bigs have solid jumper, it's a plus for ur team. ex)bosh, love etc. u probably have no clue what i'm talkin about since ur just retarded kb dickrider. go suck yo mama's titties then say shit.

  • @jeenafme Ohh look another big talkin' internet tough guy.

  • @jeenafme Ohh look another big talkin' internet tough guy.

  • @jwpark23 Funnily enough, Kobe gets a lot of credit for his IQ - so if he KNOWS what he's supposed to do, then doesn't do it... what does that say?

  • @bballbreakdown Hey coach, thanks for all these knowledgable analysis. I'm learning alot from your vids as well! Keep it coming coach!

  • Comment removed

  • awww....

I was expecting you to breakdown the offence Pau made to the back of CP3's head

  • @ISonbabball LOL - I wanted to get to that... maybe in the next one

  • u should coach for the lakers

  • @ihatewonders Thanks - not sure I could coach Kobe, though...

  • Thank you for making these a lot quicker now. Just like old times?

  • @APrimeRocker We're ramping up...and as my season winds down, I'll have more time

  • Lakers vs clippers 7 game series who would you take ? i take the lakers !

  • @max420ful I gotta go with CP3 over Kobe

  • @bballbreakdown No offense but how could you take CP3 over Kobe in a 7 game series? Yes Chris Paul is an amazing player and probably the best PG in the league (it's a close call between him and D-Rose). And I know you have a problem with kobe taking so many "bad" shots. Yes sometimes he shoots a lot of shots and some of them may seem like really bad decisions but in the end of the day thats what makes Kobe Kobe, and winning 5 rings proves that its the right way to go.

  • @PITPAF bballbreakdown is a kobe hater. thats the truth its so obvious.

  • @bballbreakdown Sounds about as informed as your knee jerk non-analysis of the plays in the video.

  • Oh yeah Coach Nick, who do you think has the best looking offense in the NBA? For me, it's the Nuggets, they pass the ball about quickly and have lots of pick and roll action leading to plenty of drives

  • @gshooting Haven't gone through enough teams yet. Denver will be broken down ASAP. I do like Warriors

  • Comment removed

  • thanks coach great video! what do you think about the knicks. whats wrong with them?

  • The Clippers have a really lousy half-court offense, even worse than the Lakers. They only win so many games because of their talent, fastbreak and transition.

  • good vid coach. i've always said the problem with most teams offense (especially the lakers) is movement away from the ball. Even just a little movement goes a long way but players like kobe and artest are so bad with that. Especially kobe who if he moved a little more would get so many more open shots, and more easy assists for pau and bynum.

  • BRILLIANT!!!!

  • I would like you to try to do an analysis on Raptors offense... without Bargnani

  • I was hoping more of insights on how the strategies work rather than comments on bungled-up plays. That's pretty much what you were doing here and in recent vids, coach. You used to look at the system as a whole and say that Player X will flourish in this system because it gives him Y looks at the basket, etc. You're generalizing too much using a small sample size.

  • @lexist7 agreed.

  • YESSSSSS Awesome. thanks coach!

  • Thanks for posting & describing the Horns offensive set

  • Ron Artest > Metta World Peace

  • Even Mike Brown makes Vinny look silly.

  • 2:36 I actually miss this offensive set. Mike Brown does not have any other option in offense once the ball dies in a particular play.

  • I am realy startin to get annoyed by you not knowing what is a quality shot and what's not. Only thing you look at is the play and if everything goes excatly by the play then its a good shot, but when not, it's a bad shot. Either you don't realy know what shot is easy and whats not, or you just watch how did the play worked... -.-

  • @rocky12rullshard It's not that - good shots are ones where there are people in position to rebound the miss, shots that are clearly practiced over and over, that aren't taken when a defender is right in their face...

  • @bballbreakdown I know this is a one case scenario but if you got a good player making normally low percentage shots consistently while the team is missing wide open set shots consistently which is determined to be a good shot? It also bothered me when you said Gasol gets a lousy long shot when he is reliable for those shots and will hit them more times than none. Especially with the height advantage of a possible williams reovery def. Although i do agree with his lousy screens.

  • @bballbreakdown but he actually makes a point. For example the last play where Gasol hit an open jumper, I've seen you said a similar scenario was a good shot. It was open, Gasol has a good mid range touch, and it was a simple screen and roll execution? Yes it may not have been the offense what the Lakers had in mind but I'm confused here.

  • @jonathan919

I think coach also takes another thing into account:

whether the bigs are in good position to offensively rebound in case that shot misses

    have you considered that??

  • @rocky12rullshard I don't agree. There's a reason why the offense and plays are made. It is to best suit the player's best preference for a shot. If they are bad at shooting from the corner, then it's not a good shot for them even if their open. If they can't face up over their man then it's not a good play for them even if it's a mismatch.

  • @rocky12rullshard how long have you been coaching? exactly

  • coach, I am the biggest celtics fan in the world! PLEASE,PLEASE,PLEASE breakdown the celtics struggles this year. I'm sure it's not only physical, please coach!

  • Great, Thank you .. go Lakers.. always... ;-)

  • Do some stuff on the Thunder, they have the best record in the league.

  • Comment removed

  • I hope someone from the Clippers or Lakers organization is watching this instead of doing there own breakdown.

  • It was a very intense game. But neither team really had their offense intact and that CAN lead to a mediocre season by both teams.

  • damn i've been waiting for this! coach has been tweeting about it for hrs now.. lol

  • lol @ Metta World Peace's name

  • awesome thank you sir :)

  • finally thank you

  • Great show, keep it up
