I took care of an african grey for a bit, but had to give him back because he kept teasing my dog and conure and calling my friend inappropriate names.
"frankly scarlet ..Idon't give a damn!" love it my mom inherited one from a man who was in her words a "crochety" old man and he says all kinds of nifty not so nice words and phrases but i think my favorite two things he does is when he counts to four then starts sining "row row row your boat" and always gets every one sining it just to hear it again
As others have said, it's quite unique to hear such clear speech in one of these videos. I was beginning to feel that MY African Grey was more special because I felt mine spoke clearer than most I've watched. So while I now feel I have company I can also say that this little guy easily beats mine. What a joy :-)
goodness i bet he wishes he has a bird friend :( If they weren't so endangered I think it would be barbaric to keep them in cages. But its a beautiful cagae and you're clearly good bird parents :D
this african grey scares the shyt out of me.........ive never heard one speak SO clearly before....FUK PLANET OF THE APES ITS ALL BOUT THE GREYS, RUN FOR yOUR LIVES
u hear scientists say -then people learnt to speak and everything changed. really? its not about talking its about understanding.i feel its most mysterious than scientists say
we have an african grey and she has never plucked and she doesnt have an companion...we had 2 once...bad idea...they had screaming competitions....very loud!!!
Birds tear out their feathers when they are lonely...they live in flocks in the wild and get depressed when they are alone. He should have a companion.
is your african grey a feather plucker? you know, thats just because hes bored. all you have to do is get him some foraging toys, an just more toys in general and he will be all better! 8D
plucking in parrots is usually related to being neglected by the owner, not giving company and leaving the bird alone in cage with nobody around for longer period of times. Parrots go into depression in such conditions and inflict injuries on themselves by plucking their feathers all the way.
Omg me and my mom were dying watchin this XD too freaking awesome!! How long does it take to teach these birds to talk?? I used to have a Cockatiel and all I could get it to do was copy a whistle lol
Thanks. That was hilarious. African grey's seem love to practice their reptoire of words when they are by themselves. I had one that would make up its own sentences with good syntax, and appropriately. For example I used to wonder why he liked to sit on the shower rod in my big bathroom. Then one day while he was there he piped up "Seraph [his name] likes the birdie." What birdie? His reflection in the bathroom mirror that he could see before him!
Ok maybe it's me, but I wanted my African Grey to hear other African Grey's talking, so I turned my volume very loud on my computer. It freaked me out that during 1:30 and 1:40, there is a very evil sounding voice talking to your bird in the dark. Did anyone else notice this? I had my husband listen to it and he thought it was freaky. Turn up your volume and listen, maybe it's just me, but your house might be haunted :O
he/she is very smart but really needs a few different toys, seems to be a little shy on the feathers(due to deing bored and not enough attention/activity) but really good
I didn't know parrots can memorize this much sentences/words. Is this real? I'm really skeptical about it. Any Parrot expert who can tell us if parrots can memorize all these sentences?
@yabyab yes, they do memorize 'sentences' -- although we haven't heard more than 4 words at a time. this one here is probably real--they wouldn't have bothered to edit together several clips if they were faking it. also, you can see the throat moving as it talks.
ours will do "Bobo go bicycle", "I love you, Bobo", "Bobo roll over", "Bobo good girl", etc.
search youtube for talking greys and you will find several that do sentences--that is...3 or 4 word sentences.
this is so freiken stupid.... hahaha dont believe this bcuz they captured videos of him TRYING to speak, so they recorded there voice (edited there voice) and added it to the video to try and make it look like he was talking... but its fake!!
Agreed Fliing! Some birds just pluck like a person bites there nails, once started its a hard habit to break and is unexplainable in most cases.
