  • The Metamorphosis - A Study: Nabokov on Kafka (1989) Christopher Plummer

    /watch?v=1jX7_pZ-AzU

  • This is NOT Vladimir Nabokov.

  • Is that Christopher Plummer? In any case he's thoroughly entertaining to listen to, very funny. He just seems so excited by the story, it's great, lol.

  • I don't like the lecturer's interpretation of the insect. Kafka states more than once that Gregor's "numerous legs" flickered about him. I hardly imagine "numerous" means six. But I don't think the Kafka's vermin described any real insect.. the bug was only a vehicle to convey the sense of ostracism which underlines the story.

  • I find it amusing how many of the comments have to do with the actors failure to replicate an accent and not to do with anything of substance. ^_^

  • Just goes to show the small mindedness of this majority.

  • does anyone know where the 3rd part is?

  • THIS IS NOT NABOKOV

  • if you watch part one is tells you the actor's name.

  • For the people questioning the French accent and the baffling anti-American comment from Mogura87 about not recognizing a british accent, if you look on youtube for the clip of Nabokov talking about "Lolita" from the CBC, you will hear that there is a definite French tinge to his accent;.he would seem to have been a man of many colliding accents, international intellectual as he was.

  • Sounds like Russian-tinged English to me. And I'm not inclined to question a performance by Christopher Plummer. Even if he is Canadian.....

  • Yeah, why is Nabokov French here?

  • I hate to be haughty, toReasonWhy, but I do think the question rather is "why are Americans like you so ignorant of anything non-American that you'd mistake a British accent for a French one?".

  • Aww! Don't worry, you didn't succeed at being haughty, only pissy, although I just know you wouldn't truly have hated it if you had! -- you're just another of the many interneters who think it's somehow productive to insult other interneters.

I know what English-speaking native French speakers sound like, thanks. Even if you're claiming that this is an accurate presentation of a Russian speaking british-influenced english, your ad hominem betrays your intellectual weakness. Fuck off.

  • Is he doing Nabokov? What's with the French accent?

  • I'd rather call that accent an unusually stilted variant of "stiff upper lip"-British English (aka BBC English), but maybe that's just me. At any rate I think the actor does a good job at imitating Nabokov's accent.

  • @Mogura87 You idiot. That is Nabokov.

  • Comment removed

  • @LongliveSnak2e Nope. It's Christopher Plummer. (Idiot.)

  • @Mogura87 No. only british can produce this 'stiff upper lip'' accent due to their close relation to their sheep... btw the sheepish origin of the britts is also reflected in their wearing sheep wool like wigs in their courts... and their love of the green color and some other things which explaines why england is so attractive to muslims and why british hate Jews with such intensity...
