The two ancient script styles of India are Nagari and sruthi style. Sanskrit and most north indian languages are an evolution of the nagari style wheras tamil and malayalam are an evolution of the sruthi script. And don't forget that kalidasa wrote mostly in the sruthi script... So before all of you get your jingoistic/linguistic hackles up remember that India is a nation of settlers, all bringing in their speech, culture from central asia or ancient mesopotomia / sumeria.
Geez the number of self styled linguistic experts. Sanskrit is an old language but is not a pregenitor of greek or latin. All these three languages are of the Indo-European stock and probably shared a mother language with the avestan language of ancient persia. Tamil is of comparitively recent vintage compared to sanskrit but still the second oldest of existing languages in India. The tamil branch split from the original dravidian language before kannada, tulu, sankethi, telegu etc.
Sanskrit is older than Tamil. Sakskrit is the first Aryan language while Tamil is the first Dravidian language. We have to look in the past, after the war of 3012 BC. Sanskrit explained the gap, but the books were destroyed. Tamil scriptures are intact, thanks to the Vijaynagaram empire.
First of all there is nothing called as an aryan invasion. It is only a theory by the Westerners.
Both Sanskrit and Tamil are equally sacred. Sanskrit is the language of the Gods and vedic scriptures. However, Tamil was personally given by Lord Siva and Murugan to the world thru Agaistya Rishi.
Today's prehistoric data is not the ultimate measure of discussing about which lang predated the other. It doesnt matter, both are eternal from where they derive their roots- in the spiritual cosmos!
I am a Tamilian from Madras [Chennai], South India. Sanskrit goes back to the !st Yuga or Cosmic Time Cycle of the present Universe. A Yuga is millions of years in length! At present, we are in the 4th Yuga [Kali Yuga]. Kali Yuga lasts for
425,000 years of which 5000 have passed. Double of Kali is Dwapara Yuga-850,000 yrs. Double of this is the Thretha Yuga-1,700,000. Double of this is Satya Yuga-3,400,000. Total of All = 1 Day for Lord Brahma, the Creator, whose lifespan is 100 Brahma years!!!
Thts what aryans thought. As per historians, tamil is older to sanskrit - Infact Sanskrit was spoken and written in different scripts for a long time while tamil had script and verbage since the days historians knew it.
Sanskrit is older than Tamil. Tamil is supposed to be the oldest "Dravidian" language. Can you tell me why classical Tamil literature aka sangam illakiyam linguistically has sanskrit influence? why Agathiyar / Sage Agsatya is attributed for the development of Tamil. Why Tolkappiyam has heavy Sanskrit influence?
@xXBlackxRebelXx Influences on a language does not determine when a language came into being. A language can exist for a long period before the introduction of a new language creates some influences on it.

sanskrit is not the oldest even in the sub-continent. Tamil (or something to close to it) is believed to be language of Indus valley civilization (2500 bc) which is before the Aryan civilization (1500 bc)
Based on computer simulation of symbols on pottery, tablets frm Indus Valley Civilization, scientists agreed that a spoken Language may have existed in those ancient times. but they could not decipher the exact language.the language patterns contain elements of sanskrit and tamil. neither the computer simulation nor the language patterns prove the IVC language is tamil.
I believe Tamil does not predate Sanskrit.
Rigveda oldest hindu text was written in sanskrit.
Rig veda may be the oldest hindu text, but it is written during the aryan civlization which happened after indus valley. Apparently, tamil has its roots in northern africa even earlier than indus valley.
there is nothing sacred in the voice and sounds, because sacredness is not always in the sound, but in the meaning of anything. Till the meaning is presereved it is sacred. To extend it, till u can understand it ,u can find it is sacred otherwise it is a bunch of sound which has no sense of sacredness to you.. :)
The age of the voices is irrelevant, children, from the age of 8 were sent to Monasteries. The instruments used when the mantra was first created were, no doubt, considered modern, so, why not use today's?. The point is the words and the effect.
Rigveda is seamless - has no beginning no end.. vedas were not texts at all; they were oral transmissions passed down from teacher to student through memorization/ meditation maybe.. It was compiled into texts by ancient sages around 1500BC (a date arrived by historians).
@vavilala786 hi !!! anyways........... for ur information !!! tamil is the worlds oldest language !!! and its the base form of language for all the languages!!! and sanskrit itself drived from tamil :) !!!
@guna941121 Tamil and Sanskrit are two different languages and are oldest. All languages came out of Sanskrit and Tamil was separate. Tamil belong to Dravidian culture, Sanskrit belong to Aryans and Mongolians spoke Chinese which is very difficult to learn. These 3 races mixed up and formed new races. If you want to discuss more than you can contact me through my inbox. Thanks.
@nirmant Apparently sanskrit has divine origins, handed down by the gods. It has no human origin or aryan origins. U can look up the power of sound waves and vibration of mantras and see the science behind mantras. It is not just a language to communicate with other people.
Why are you shwoing all other things except shankarachrya picture, this song belongs to him. u dont feel its missing here, club his pic with all of the pics and see.
