  • sounds like one the tracks off Random on how it is structured... a great version

  • Fantastic quality on a professional level. Great version and worth putting to my favourites.

  • This is the best synth artist ever born. Just incredible. This man's vision is the only reason anyone else succeeded at it.

  • i have an image in my head of captain gary numan appearing out of a spaceship and all the numanoids following, awesome

  • I still think nothing beats the original album/single arrangement. That grinding sawtooth can't be topped.

  • Play station 2 -> CARBONO

  • awesome

  • Great version of this classic!! Rock on Gary!!!!!

  • Splendido!

  • Great Live piece

  • Looks like he still own the song! Frifn' fantastic!

  • hey nastybyte

YOU ROCK for putting this on!!!

how kind of you to actually share such a cool vid.

i would totally hog it all to myself if it were mine!!!

    gary numan is the COOLEST!!

i wish i had been old enough to experience his era, go to his shows etc.

have you seen him live? what was it like?

  • nfs carbon song :D

  • @daylanzee yeah and is the best song of the 70's XD i love tis song!

  • this song never gets old

  • Music like this can be considered electronica, but by today's standards.

  • This is a kiss-ass version!! I only wish that they would release this whole concert as a "Live Album."

BTW, Gary is one of the coolest rocker out there and has paid his dues to be noted as GREAT!!!

  • @bergunx He paid what? Fuck all.

  • Frign' SPLENDID.

  • This is absolutely SUPERB.... the MEGA version... thank you for posting. the man is a legend

  • best version ive heard. its very similar to the mix he did with little boots

  • OMFG! totally awesome

  • Not seen this before. Absolute class!

  • I like this live version. You know Im the stylist for Oceania.

  • Was that possibly from the Jagged tour? Excellent video and quality Nasty, far better than anything else I've viewed on here recently

  • @MrSantino67 , yes that's the Jagged tour. My other Numan vids from the same concert - I edited almost the entire concert!

  • Gary Numan Has COMPLETELY CHANGED ! 21 year old GenIouse ! Scribed And pulled Down From The 'SCUM' Music Press! MOTHERFUCKIN ENGINNER, PIONEER n GOD ! ! Slowly the thought there is no-one to replace ! ! !

  • We Dont Need The Dark WENeed The Electronics N Synths !

  • Listen 'People' Really Can't Get Ma Head Round This ! ! 79 Motherfuckin 'DOMINATED' ! ! ! !

  • 39yrsoldstilllovehismusic

  • Spine Chillin stuff! Great version, would love to get hold of a copy of this!

  • Stunning!

  • Different version...excellent!!!

  • bad ass

  • Guys, does anyone find it weird that i'm listening to 30 year old music and i'm 12?

All my friends seem to think so.

  • im 13 and i love gary numan

  • I salute you. dont listen to this new age shit. its all crap. Wolfmother is the only exception. You should look them up.

  • New Age? Lmao

  • haha. You know what I mean dammit!!

  • good music doesn't die.

  • No! you just have good taste... Good for you!

  • Wouldn't worry about it mate - If you listened to current music someone would eventually remix (ruin by rapping over it) an old of the tune you like from this era anyway. You can boast to your mate you were mile ahead of them with the original version anyway

  • @guywholikesvids

no this is very cool. There is some great music about now but Gary Numan, early Human League are hard to beat

  • @guywholikesvids

    I'm 14 and i love listening to 70's and 80's music!

70's and 80's music was real music!

  • Yes good for you, and these days, the number of remakes by current artists is alarming.... it show that artists no longer have innovative ideas.... for me, it seems that musical originality and innovation mostly ended in the early 1990's

  • Let nobody dictate your tastes, it is important to explore and develop your own tastes in music and the arts.

  • geeeeeiiiiiiiile version.....

  • echt jetzt!!!

  • Get rid of the wig gary! Youre fooling nobody!

Shave your bonce like everybody else - its not the 70's anymore!

  • Actually that's his own hair because I met him in Brighton the other day. He's 51. You're probably just jealous because you're a balding forty something.

  • Of course its his own hair - He paid good money and got a receipt! IT IS A HAIRPIECE!

In 1978 he had a bobby charlton comb-over. How has it miraculously grown back?

Yes, I am a shaven-headed, healthy and athletic 45 year old and would not entertain a wig - it is the height of vanity.

  • I'm fairly certain that he had hair implants in the mid-to-late 80s, and one would assume he's had them since then too. So that's how it's miraculously grown back.

  • Maybe - but if you freeze it on 2.59.......hmmm? Needs a chinstrap?

  • He has a good head of har - but its too dark to be credible

  • @LORDGODSIRALEXFERGIE ever hear of rogaine lol

  • @RITH5150

Yep! Tried it and it doesnt work - just a scam! Gary numan wears a wig on advice from his 'image' PR men. Its just to make a few more quid from a comeback tour. If he was really serious about his barnet, he would have an expensive hair transplant or just shave his head and wear a baseball cap - simples!

  • @LORDGODSIRALEXFERGIE, I heard he has to wear the wig, mainly to cover up scars from a failed hairtransplant in the 1980's.

  • i love evey version of this song

  • Me too!

  • Das warwn noch Zeiten!

  • Comment removed

  • brilliant

  • NICE!

    NUMA.66.

  • Pure musical genius. GN was so far ahead of his time.

  • i love the lord

  • was this from the 07 tour?

  • How do I get a copy of this particular live version of the song?

  • you can't - unless Gary decides to release it.

  • @NastyByte

Track is available as the Guilfest 2006 version, which was released on an album with nothing else then rarities, like remixes from Sulpher and so on.

  • @NastyByte

  • I wish i was at this show

  • Very interesting film effects. gary you deserve a lolipop. Another excellent creation by Gary. Love it.

Nasty byte shinzo, has got me in a pandamonium...

  • The Scary Thing Is the amount of Time we Spend On Our PCs these days could He see the Future??

  • Are Friends Electric broke me. Love Gary Numan. Saw him at the Festival Theatre Adelaide when I was 14 I'm 45 now and this is wicked. Donna Summer I feel Love started techno but Gary made it real. He is as good now as he was then if not better. His tunes will live forever :D

  • To state the totally fucking obvious, this rocks.

  • Oh yeah...... fuckin awesome! Love the piano breakdown and the drop, full on goosebumps! Does anyone know how recent this is?

  • I produced these a few years ago, after the Jagged Tour.

  • Nasty, you deserve amazing kudos for your outstanding work - thanks for bringing this alive and for keeping the music going - matt

  • thanx!

  • I sort of liked it better when he was a robot.

    :-(

  • I think that in the early years he accepted the discipline the technology imposed on him and the result was an incredible clarity of ideas, songwriting and production. I think a lot of the stuff he as done more recently has been a bit muddy. But underneath it is a true star and visionary of rock, and in this video it really shows.

  • superbe version :-) :-)

  • He's been sining this song for 30 years, and he still has that much to give to it. Amazing.

  • true words

  • Great version.

  • Awesome version!

  • thnxz for the loverly coment TakeAShowerStinky, really brightend my day(!!!)

  • Dope of the highest quality!

  • Great Live!! Rememer this one.....

    Love that Light Show....

  • awesome LIVE sound. its so overlooked with acts these days ....a good live performance

  • I agree we live in a world where image is eveything and worshiped and talent is disregarded . Garys the real thing on stage as well as in life.

  • yeah too right ;)

  • who gives a toss what year the guy is awsome!!!!

  • Hi Wanker. I wanted to know what he was singing this song at this concert. Praying for AIDS.

  • Is this really Gary Numan? What year?

  • wasn't too long ago. the OP filmed the footage. point is, he slightly alters songs to fit the present day expectations of what a groovy song will be.

  • 1979 ???

  • Tubeway Army released the single "Are 'Friends' Electric?" in May 1979. source wikipedia

  • yes but this is the new version

  • This is f***ing GREAT!!!

    When was this??

    Show me MORE..!!!

  • Like a white lie that night

or a slight touch at times

I dont think it meant anything to you

  • this means everything to me

  • This is one of the best versions I have ever seen of this song. Totally brilliant.

  • Wow! Que cancion mitica por dios! Grosisimo!

  • es fantantico este video........la cancion es la ostia.......mitica diria yo.

  • Bloody hell Robbie williams is looking rough now aint he !

  • LOL!!!

  • Cool heavy metal..a bit like the NWOBHM

  • its not heavy metal its electro pop

  • love it,are friends electric, no question mark

  • Clever and appealing video production NastyByte - a great presentation for this all-enduring track from Numan

  • New version, new look , very good.

  • Whatever. Babyshambles sucks. The Libertines sucked. Pete Dougherty is a faggy untalented poser.

  • btw its not "the" babyshambles..

    dumbass

  • WHEN THE BABYSHAMBLES HAVE MORE VIEWS THEN THIS MASTER PIECE ,I really worry about music pollution getting out of control

  • he come two bristol and gary was verry good at it and that was my frist time i wentand see him see him agen wen he come back two here ?????

  • still wanna dance to it - classic

  • okay now I wanna go see him!

  • me too !!!

  • wow...just WOW! great version even after all these years!!

  • Gary just keeps getting better

  • haven't heard this track for so long, they used it in Ashes to Ashes (the "new" Life on Mars series) and omg, gave me goosebumps! i bought this on 7" vinyl, back in the day, what a track, what a performance, before its time.

  • dude, ashes to ashes was a bowie song, it wasnt originally on life on mars! fag

  • no need to be so rude, helisto.

  • or inaccurate, more to the point...he just missed the point completely didn't he?

  • hairs spine chilling - thanks for this

  • Wow...great version....I FIRST HEARD THIS IN 1979 AND LOVE IT STILL.......nothing sounds more like the future than Gary Numan from the 70's.......still, 30 years on.

  • That is just too damned good.

  • take note new bands...this is how its done...excellent

  • I agree the new bands are too Caught up with presenting an image , image with no talent

  • awesome

  • FAB-FRICKIN-FAV-FANTASTIC !!!!!!!!!!

Gary Numan rocks!!!!! Love that song!!!! And that was a great take on the recorded version...awesome!!! *been a big fan since 1979 & always will be*````````````

  • Hell of a clip and a damn good version of a classic.

  • Nice touch NastyByte to recreate that mirror keyboard effect on the live vid that they used right back on the original Are Friends Electric video. Think you couldn't have captured the live experience any better, thank you :-)

  • I never saw the video you're speaking of - so I must have been using my psychic powers.

  • Your psychic powers are good, but alas my memory is less so. The video I was getting confused with was the original promo video to Cars instead. Looking forward to your next clips :-)

  • FANTASTIC !!! carl in scarborough x

  • Best live version I have ever heard...quality. Is this availbale on any CD?

  • That was awesome, great stuff, what a legend the man is.

  • soooooooooo perfect

  • Incredible. What a genius.

  • very,very,very,very,very,very good!!

  • This is such a cool version.....and I love how Gary is dressed like a 90s 'Doomer'!!! soo good!!

  • Yes! This is reaally good.

  • There`s more to this song then you think. The notes in the beginning of the song are a signal to the Mother Ship. The people in the audience are all under some telepathic euphoric trance

  • i was really into the new age thing in the 80`s and presently, well the last 20 years i have been a metal lover. is there any goin back? well yes because when you have a class act like this keepin the train rollin, then their will always be that bridge to cross. well done gaz, then and now.

  • What an absolutely awesome version this is! True genius at work!!! :o)

  • NB, I don't know how I missed this one (looks at upload date in disbelief). Another superior creation. Thank you for this - I love this man.

  • awesome, I was searching for a new version of this song and this is just......mind blowing...one of my fave songs of all time is now even more favourite

  • OMG how fantastic this is, thanx so much for sharing.its great to see Gary interacting with his fans,he sounds awesome.

  • WOW!!! after all these years gary numan never ceases to amaze me. thanks for posting!!!!

  • Good version, good video. He did the same version on his July UK mini tour.

  • GREAT!

  • unbelievable but its what I have come to expect

  • Thats some heavy shit. Reznors mentor, I'm sure.

  • I loved using that effect in this song because it is reminiscent of much-loved "Thing" from The Adams Family, and leaning toward the darkside - one of my favorite Oliver Stone films - "The Hand"...

  • nice version, great keyboard punch in

  • The Jagged live dvd that Gary's releasing doesn't contain any of my videos. It is a straight documentary-style version of the concert with studio ultra-perfect audio.

  • i hope this version of the song is on jagged live cos its well good - brilliant video x
