Kiri is a great Contessa but lets do not forget about Gundula Janowitz. She was the first Contessa I heared and her Porgy Amor is extrordinary! Too bad there is not a video of her playing this role.

Kiri a "fine" contessa!? She owned this role until she retired from the stage. I saw her do this role at the Met in Feb of 1997 LIVE! Too bad she did not do this opera more. She tore the roof off the place! I agree with kimmycup. NO ONE (this side of the grave)could/can do the countess like Te Kanawa!

Hmm, I think the tempo is not that bad. Perhaps slightly slow, but not so offensive. Kiri makes a fine contessa. Thanks for posting.

I find the tempo here just terribly slow. Then again it is a bohm recording so what can one expect?
