Know why so many of us respond this way? It's moving on multiple levels. Who has NOT had a dream, perhaps a childhood dream, something that at one time you wanted SO badly you could taste it? And how FEW of us actually get to see that dream fulfilled. When we see stories like Susan Boyle's (or those on American Idol,and it's the REASON the show is so popular) it gives us a renewed sense of hope. SOMEONE is getting their dreams fulfilled-that restores a bit of beauty and innocence in the world.

I think what so many people feel when they watch and listen to Susan's audition video, is after having watched the smirks and eye-rolling in the beginning, many of us identify with her, because she's a representation of the ordinary citizen, the underdog; and then when she begins singing, it's like one of our own is finally getting even and is throwing all the ridicule and put-downs back in their faces. It's like we're finally able to let out this huge sob that we've been surpressing for years.

What was so emotional about it was the way Susan humbled everyone there. As if the whole audience and the judges were ready to dismiss her as a no-talent, based on appearance alone.
