I want to start a small business but I have been afraid to quit my job with its group health plan and have to pay $800 a month to buy coverage on my own as a self employed 52 year old individual. I cannot afford to get started in business with that huge financial burden. It's not the "public option" that was originally proposed. It's a public mandate. A federal subsidy to the private insurance industry - that we have to pay directly.

My only issue on a personal choice note is that I rely on alternative medicine to stay healthy and see natural docs and now I have pay a fine or pay for insurance that I will never use because I don't see mainstream doctors. It is good for those who do I suppose.

The public option doesn't mean it's free unless you fall within a certain income criteria and don't currently have insurance.
